Golf IV / Jetta IV :: R32 Struts / Springs Onto 2.8L VR6
Sep 16, 2015
I was wondering if the stock front R32 struts and springs will bolt on without any issues onto a 2.8L GTI.

View 2 RepliesWhat additional parts should I be replacing when I do this? Spring seats, bump stops, etc?
View 12 RepliesFew weeks ago, I got the Tein spring installed on my camry. Drop 1.5/1.6 front/rear.
Problem is now I sometimes hear this clunking sound from the rear. It doesn't happen very frequently, just every once in a while when i drive through a small&sudden bump.
Only from the rear, nothing from front of the car.
Another thing is that when i reverse & turn (ex. getting out of garage), it makes one or two cracking noise from the front, small clunking sound from the rear.
I'm suspecting the strut may be bad. The mechanic guy said that my rear struts are bad (when he was installing the springs).
Am I in need to get new struts ?
Can the struts and springs from the 2006-2008 Avalon with the TOURING suspension be put on the 2010-2012. Went to the local Toyota dealer. They had the struts for a 2007 Touring model. We compared them to some from a 2011 , and they looked physically the same.
View 1 RepliesI just replace my struts, tie rod assemblies along with the wheel bearings on my 2003 MKIV Golf GL. I noticed when turning at low speeds, the is a squeaking noise (rubber against metal). It sounds as if its coming from the shock tower but can't tell. The installation was relatively straight forward.
View 3 RepliesJust bought a mk4 gti 1.8 20v and theres a loud knocking noise coming from the rear and it feels like the back end isn't attached ! Is this a common fault ? And what should i be investigating and fixing b4 the bk end does come off !!?
View 1 RepliesSo I finally installed my brand new coils in yesterday. I took it for a test drive and noticed a noise coming from the rear struts. It sounds as if the spring is wobbling around, almost like a clicking sound. When I first installed them I installed them without the rear perch, then when I heard the noise I thought it was because I didn't install the perch so I ended up taking my wheels off and installing the perch back in. No luck. It's still making a clicking sound when I'm driving, constantly. I had my friend push down on the rear of the car several times while I look under it, I don't know what it could be.... I also cut my rear bump stop in half. Could that be the issue? I have about 10 threads left on the rear perch before I max out.. The spring is compressed half way. Once again, These coils are brand new.
View 5 RepliesI have an 02 Jetta with the 2.0 that I have been trying to resurrect. We've owned it from new and it's been a great commuting car but it was in desperate need for some TLC. The car has been very reliable for 250k-km and I want to make it last at least another 3 years. So, rather than sell the car for nothing - I've decided to invest some time in swapping parts in from a scrapped GLI w/24v VR6 (with ~130k km) that I picked up for $500. I figure that I'll never feel the pain of depreciation by just never selling the car!
I've already used the GLI to do some cosmetic upgrades (goodbye foggy head lights), replaced a rusted fender and a rock battered hood, a broken side view mirror - as well as do a full leather interior swap. The engine is destined for my Eurovan -- which has left me wondering what other parts I could use off the car before sending it to the wrecker.
So basically -- my 2.0 needs a wheel bearing and the stock suspension has been creaking and noisy for a long time. I see that the brakes and wheel bearing housings are different between 2.0 and VR6 -- but I'm thinking of swapping it all over at once and want to know if this is plausible. The brakes are definitely bigger (FN3 style) with nice factory painted calipers and just in better condition overall -- so I know I need the wheel bearing housing. So- is it possible to swap the entire strut out with the wheel bearing housing and all still attached? Seems this might be less work and faster than actually swapping out the just the wheel bearings.
Will the axles from the 2.0 still work?
My car is bagged with the airlift front struts. wondering if there is any way to get more camber in the front without the performance struts.
View 8 RepliesSo I just replaced my upper strut bushings and bearings and there's still noises coming from the struts or idk what it is but its coming from up front and when I back up and turn the wheel or when I am driving down my drive way there's little bumps and once i drive over them the car just makes all this noise. Pretty much what else could it be? are my struts blown? or could it be something is loose?
View 14 RepliesIf I get in my car to hard or even when I'm in the car and rock back and forth while standing still it sounds like the springs squeak, kind of like a spring bed when getting it on. I don't hear it when I'm driving though.
View 8 RepliesLooking to get a set of VWracing springs but wondering if there is a way to pull the front struts without having to pull the axles out?
View 24 RepliesSo I installed the DG springs today, and it should've been a simple install. Well once all was said and done I took it for a test drive. Every time I go over a bump I hear a loud clunking noise, like somethings loose. What it could be? I'm pretty sure I tightened everything.
View 10 RepliesSearched but all I see about "scraping" is from too low or tires scraping but this is a different issue, well i think it is, so my bro has golf 2.5 2 dr, he installed his DG Springs today and it makes this scraping noise, it comes and goes, it makes the same noise even if in straight pavement or not bouncing...
Here is a video of it making that noise, it starts at 0:50 secs : [URL] .....
'12 Golf R I really think it's just coincidence but want to ask before scheduling an appointment with the dealer.
I replaced the springs w/ VWR Sport Springs and upgraded brake rotors and pads last week. Didn't drive the car at night until last night, headlamps were all the way down and didn't move around corners like they had. Also, when turning the headlights on they don't oscillate (motion checks) like they should.
Also installed the Hella LED tail lights a few weeks ago but the headlamps worked as they should after that, at least until last night. Byte 18 = 21 (no fog), I do still have both L & R Back up light error.
Just curious if there's anything I should check before taking it to the dealer?
My R is coming up on 140k miles. The shocks and struts are pretty beat and it rattles badly. I'm really thinking about just replacing the suspension components with oe type stuff or is it really worth it to spend the extra money on a coil over kit? A little lower stance and some adjustability would be nice, but not super important to me. I'd have to get a lower end coil over kit too, so is it really worth it? Or should I just replace the stuff and be done with it?
View 1 RepliesI am experiencing a bad clunking noise when going over bumps. Its comming from the passenger rear and I am assuming the springs collapsed. How can i tell for sure? The car is sitting a little lower on the corner. Is it bad to drive the car with the spring in this condition?
View 8 RepliesMy R's only got 5,400 miles on it and I just lowered it Saturday on H&R Springs and when I turn my steering wheel like 3/4 either way it makes like a clunk noise at lower speeds only....any other part besides strut top mounts and bearings? It sounds like its coming from the right front.
View 9 RepliesI am installing VWR Springs to replace worn stock components on my mk6 R. It appears that the previous owner slammed the car, and removed the "nipple" that holds the rear spring in place from the top. Both upper and lower spring isolators were present.
I am trying to find a name or part number for this unknown "nipple". I tried some combinations, such as "rear spring cap" and "rear spring centering guide". It looks like it would screw into the body, right above the springs themselves.
When I go really slow like less than 10 mph and turn my wheels, my struts creek and make noise. Lowered on a H&R coilover kit. I bought car with it last year i am second owner so the suspension is getting old. Possibly old as car is installed when 1st owner bought it in 04. i think the struts are just going bad.
View 2 RepliesWhen I looked at them a couple days ago I noticed that on the top of the original springs (I'd say first and maybe some of the second down) looked shiny and clean like it was making contact with the spiral above it. Could this be a warning sign of needing new springs or is this somewhat normal? The Car is a hair under 82k miles.
