View 7 RepliesWhat normal idle rpm is with a/c on with automatic transmission. Mine fluctuates between 680 to 710 with condenser fan on low and 900 when high speed condenser fan is on.
View 1 RepliesSince the weather has warmed up, I have been experiencing an odd issue. After I drive my car for a little while I will let it sit and go to class for example. Whenever I get back into my car and start it, It will bog for a second and then resume to normal idle. It has happened multiple times with no check engine light. I will try to get a video tomorrow.
View 9 RepliesI have a standard 2001 model VW Golf 1.6L automatic. For the size of the engine it has it is pretty noisy.
View 8 RepliesIs it a good deal to buy a 1.8t jetta with transmission problems. Won't go on reverse when the car is cold. 1500? mk4 vr6 .....
View 10 RepliesI've been having this problem for a few weeks now and its getting real bad. When I'm driving along at normal speeds my car will cut off on its own. Also when I'm slowing down the car will jump up 5-600 rpms and at utter and shake a lot and every other time it'll cut off. I've replaced the maf and nothings changed. I'm really hoping it doesn't have to do with the transmission. The car has 241k on it .
View 3 RepliesI have a 2000 jetta 2.0. In 5th gear im turning 2900 rpm is this normal?i find it high....
View 24 RepliesMy issue is on my 1999 Vw Golf MK4 2.0 L Automatic is that today I was heading home from my Moms house. I noticed a fuel smell coming from the engine . I was making a turn to head west then the car suddenly turned off while still in motion.. I let the car die completely turned it back on and it eventually turned back on .The check engine light was on I then headed home I also noticed while in 4-5 RPM the car would not have that much pressure . Like it wanted to shut off again .. I was doing some research from similar issues like mine . Someone said to replace my EGR Valve and my Speed sensor.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 VW Jetta 1.8T , what the normal coolant temperature should be?
View 1 Repliesyesterday my upper radiator hose connector broke off and I replaced it filled it up with coolant and now the upper radiator hose gets really hot at normal temps while the lower hose is cold maybe and gets warm not hot or anything... I see some steam coming off the radiator but i think its all the coolant that splashed on it yesterday from the hose busting off and flooding it basically. the car does not overheat at idle or driving or anything so I am curious to what it could be
View 4 RepliesSo every morning I get in my car and start it up. Usually, It starts right up, hit 1.5K RPM and then drops to almost dead (~3-400RPM) and then goes back up to a normal idle. This has always concerned me but never thought too much of it since the car goes right back to normal after a few seconds. Today the car did the normal startup and then died. What is causing this?
View 4 RepliesI was sitting at a red light and the car shuttered and the rpms dropped but went back to idle. Then when the light turned green I released the clutch to start like normal and the rpms dropped and stalled. It cranks but won't start. I'm getting fuel to the fuel rail and I replaced the coil pack about a year ago.
View 2 RepliesI have an 03 GTI, and recently the engine has been very loud at speeds over 25mph. There isn't any rattling, ticking or chugging sounds. It just sounds like my rpm is at 7000, when it's actually 2000.
I'll try to upload a video tonight of driving around.
I have a 2002 1.8T tiptronic with around 150k Kms. Recently, the transmission has started slipping, more so when at running temperature than when cold. It feels like when a certain amount of gas is applied is when it starts slipping. It can slip immediately after 3-4 and 4-5 with continued acceleration, or will constantly slip while in 5th if trying to drive at speeds greater than 90 km/h (with very gradual acceleration to that point).
Does this sound like a clutch wear issue requiring a new transmission, or more like a valve body issue?
I have a problem with automatic tiptronic transmission my golf MK4 TDI 1.9 2001, it dosent engage on 4th gear when i am driving, the codes that I received for this foults:
01316 - ABS CONTROL MODULE
49-10 No communication- Intermittent
00652 - Gear monitoring
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Normally when cold the car would start and rest at about 1,200 maybe 1,300 for a couple minutes then go down to its normal idle point, recently when starting it when cold, it sounds and looks like it wants to do that but just goes straight to its normal idle point, its only started this a couple does ago and has me a little worried now. could there be anything wrong ?
View 12 RepliesI just recently purchased my first mk4 golf 2.0 after having a mk3 jetta vr6 for two years. I've been having problems with the car shifting (automatic) i put a code reader on it and came up with p0722 output speed sensor which explains why it sometimes shifts at 4500. My two questions are where is the output speed sensor located? and what is a normal shifting range for properly running automatics?
View 2 RepliesI've got a 1.8T 2004 automatic and the problem I'm having is the shifter is harder to move since the weather's been colder. It shifts very well and is responsive, it's just that I have to pull it harder to select P, R, N and D. D is especially hard (no pun intended you sick minds! ) to select, the shifter kind of stays in neutral but shifts after a bit. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Side question: is the rear defrost supposed to turn off after a certain period of time? My 2002 golf does it but the jetta doesn't.
I had a small leak on the side cover of my trans so I decided to replace the gasket and take the opportunity to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. However now I seem to have a pretty significant leak from the trans pan itself. The side cover seems ok.
The filter and gasket kit I purchased was a Wix brand. I don't have a torque wrench, so I just tightened to Germain torque spec (gutentight). However now I worry that maybe it's not the right spec, either too tight or too loose. The kit came with new spacers for the gasket and I cleaned the pan, especially around the lip where it interfaces with the rubber.
Ok, so I was driving normal highway speeds and all of a sudden, I realize a major drop in power. I pull over and restart it and it changes nothing. Now when I floor it, it takes 20-30 seconds to get to 90K.
I checked the air filter... Nothing. Used a code reader... Nothing. Then I decided to pressure test the cylinders... Nothing, except now the check engine light is on.
The Ol Dub is still drivable, but it is extremely slow and rough at idle. I am thinking it might be a MAF or fuel filter.
My vr6 some times loses its power but it's weird because the check engine light does not appear. It does for like 30 seconds then it goes back to driving normally.
