Issue with my 2001 gti. When i put it into 1st gear its makes a weird noise and even when i drive in first but once i go to second it goes away and in all the other gears it dosnt make the noise. I think its the throw out bearing.
View 8 Replies So for the past few months my car was making a strange noise under my car, it turned out it was the dogbone bolt that stretches to the bottom part of the transmission. Some how it got loose and was literally hitting my transmission. So we tried bolting it back on and won't screw which was kind of scary it had some type of play. Do I have to get a new 02m for a little ass bolt, do I weld it, or is there a subframe piece I can buy to replace the Broken part of the transmission.

I have a 2003 1.8t jetta. I got it in the fall and never really needed to turn on my AC until this week. It works, fans work at all speeds, blows ice cold air.
But i noticed today that my fans can be on and nothing. But when I hit the AC button there's a loud rattling sound. Everything works. It's just making noise when the AC is on. Whenever I turn it off the noise goes away.
I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2013 golf r and I usually shift gear at 3 rpm when driving normal but for some reason it doesn't feel right, I can hear the clutch making a weird noise whenever changing gear at a low rpm, it feels so much smoother when shifting above 4 rpm but I dont always wanna punch it so hard especially when there's always traffic from where I live. Any advice on a smoother shift at a low rpm.
View 22 RepliesThis just started on me not even an hour ago. I hit my switch and the window will go down all the way and the motor will continue running making a grinding noise until I hit the switch again. Same as when it goes up all the way. It stops at halfway and makes the grinding noise until I release and press the switch up again. Is this just the motor teeth going bad or are the cables getting frayed out possibly? Haven't had time to tear down and inspect yet.
View 4 RepliesI just purchased a 2004 Golf 2.0 for my daughter. The car seems to be in good shape but it does have a few problems being used and 153k miles on it.
1 - a/c switch doesn't light up and the blower does not come on. No airflow thru the vents at all. I Googled this and it sounds like blower motor and/or resistor?
2 - when using key remote to lock doors the right side marker light sometimes stays on. I have to hit the lock/unlock 4-5 times for it to go out. Is this short?
3- Front left wheel bearing was replaced but the previous owner just did that one side. The front is making noise so I plan to do the right ASAP.
Anything else I should be watching for?

My car has 130k miles and has recently developed a worrying noise. It makes an extra whirring sound, like another set of gears spinning, but I don't think I would describe it as a grinding noise. I live in VT and I thought maybe it was my (studless) snow tires making more noise in the warm weather because I noticed it about a month and a half ago when it warmed up. Now that I have my all season tires on, it's still making the noise. The tire guys didn't notice anything wrong when the swap happened (but they only do tires there and I didn't ask them to look for anything).
As far as I can tell it is dependent on wheel speed, not engine speed. It starts at about 20-25mph and gets louder the faster I go. At about 65 the normal road noise is louder than the new noise. If I turn the wheel to the right to any degree the noise goes away. I can't tell if it is completely gone, but it seems like it is. There is no real change if I turn the wheel to the left, though it might get slightly worse. When the noise is going I can feel a vibration in the floorboard that matches the sound. The sound seems like it is coming from in front of me, but I can't really tell if it is left, right, or center. As far as I can tell that is the only new noise, no clicking/griding when I turn the wheel etc.
I'm taking it in for normal 130k maintenance in a week....
My 2005 Jeta GLI is making some crazy noise when i turn to the left from the driver side I tough the problem was the axle so I had the front part replaced and the noise still there I don't know what else needs to be replaced ....

Belt squeal but when I have clutch pushed in no noticeable noise.Abs kicks in at low speed stops. I sprayed the belts with dressing noise went away momentarily actually sounded like it could have killed it almost. Right now I have the and fuse pulled to just get me by.
I recently put a cold air intake on my car and I could hear the dump when I let off of the gas. But I also put in a boost gauge but I think I had a leak in the hose going to the gauge. After I drove it for awhile the blow off valve started making a flutter noise when dumping. I fixed the leak in the hose but the flutter is still there. How do I fix the flutter? A new blow off valve? Mk4 Jetta 1.8.....
View 6 Repliesnoticing a few issues with my 2003 jetta 2.0 when driving/shifting....so first main thing I noticed is when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear often times it will make a grinding sound and not shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd....you have to do it real slow/gingerly ...if I short shift from neutral to 2nd its fine or if down shifting to 2nd its fine...I have changed the gear oil...other sounds idk if its my tranny or engine but if going up hill and you throw into 3rd and not going fast enough its makes a rattling sound and is sluggish I know its a old car 177,000 miles so idk just curious if this is a sign of problems?....Last thing after driving and getting home and putting into reverse gear to park it makes a noise like a chugging sound when reversing and can be finicky going into reverse.

While I rev my engine in neutral sitting parked somewhere I don't hear any strange noise. but after i put the car into gear and start accelerating i hear a strange whining noise.
I was recommended to check transmission fluid levels but then i also heard not to completely flush the fluid. because draining it could mess up the internals??
If it turns out the fluid is low can i just top it off? Any reason this could happen? 1.8t manual 2005 168k....
You ever hear hondas reverse? Its that kind of noise. Not extremely loud, but not dead quiet. I'll be in second, bring it to about 3k rpm, and let off the gas, and let it whined down in second. It makes the whining noise. then if I slowly accelerate in second, above 2.5k rpm, it will make the whine again. I don't think it does it under hard acceleration. The car has been running fine. idk what it would be, hopefully not a transmission problem, though I've read some 370z's do this too, the syncros trying to catch up? needs a trani flush? my transmission going? Not sure.
View 3 RepliesMy 2004 Golf GTI VR6 6-speed manual makes a louder than usual decelerating noise while in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. If I give it gas it doesn't make any noise but once I take my foot off the pedal it makes a louder than usual decelerating noise. It sounds almost as if something is maybe grinding but I'm not sure what it is. One mechanic said it may just need to be serviced (new transmission fluid). I've read some forums saying it may be the bearings or maybe need a new transmission. The car runs fine otherwise and there aren't any problems shifting up, it shifts really smooth. '
Its only when I downshift that I hear the noise. The noise is the same no matter if I'm turning or going straight and and it's in neutral, there ISN'T noise. It's only while in 4th, 3rd, or 2nd while decelerating. Even if this is a common problem with VW's how do I fix it?! The previous owner said it's been the same way since he's had it and it has NOT gotten worse and his mechanic said it was nothing detrimental to the car so he left it that way. The GTI has 130K miles on it and runs strong, that's the only problem it really has. I'm not sure when the transmission fluid was last changed so that could be a possibility. Going to possibly try that in a few days and see what happens.
The car runs fine clutch has pressure and everything. I can idle with the clutch pressed down and put into reverse and every gear BUT if I put it in a gear and start to let the clutch out I can hear a clanking or something flying around in there and it doesn't really want to go anywhere and I don't want to really let the clutch all the way out in gear or let it out for too long and screw anything else up worse..

The problem: Very hard to get a smooth shift from gear to gear. Trust me, I know how to drive, but I can always feel the car shifting into a different gear if you know what I'm saying. On my friend's bone stock Jetta, I just let the clutch out without gas in between shifts and you don't feel a thing.
On my car, you feel EVERYTHING. People have told me the light flywheel will make the ride more uncomfortable in many ways, especially since the RPMs drop much quicker in between shifts than stock.
This is unfortunately a tale of self-caused problems with my G2 '04 Prius
My gear selector was making an annoying noise when the knob was moved so I disassembled the gear selector from the car, and then took the gear selector box partially apart. Now with it back in the car I am stuck in 'B' gear.
The car seems to boot up correctly into 'Park' and the display shows 'Ready' and no alarms
If I try to choose another gear I see the display highlight 'D' but when I release the gear knob 'B' is highlited. Forward motion is enabled. At this point the 'Park' button does not work but I am able to power the car down as usual.
its possible to repair? or only a new one it's the solution? cause my gti 1.8t it's making a sound like tssshhh when i turn the steering wheel. I change the power steering rack.
