My transmission has been shifting funny lately in only a couple of the gears. it shifts into drive hard if not warmed up first, and shifts very slow from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th. I do live in cold weather at the moment and all of these shifting problems go away of are less noticeable once my car has had time to warm up.
View 3 RepliesI have a question regarding my mk4 jetta. I plan on swapping my tiptronic transmission, which is beginning to fail (at least that's what I'm assuming the really hard upshift is indicating), to a standard manual transmission. The previous owner had it stage1+ tuned.

01316 - ABS CONTROL MODULE
49-10 No communication- Intermittent
00652 - Gear monitoring
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Today when i started driving my car this morning the tiptronic just stopped working....I can shift into the manual column, but when I try to change gears, it just does nothing. I can't even tell if it works intermittently. It shifted up when i was trying to shift down in a few cases. When this would happen, the gear numbers would still pop up on the dash to tell me what gear i was in. Sometimes when I slide it into the manual column, it just remains in "auto mode" if you wil entirely.
The numbers don't pop up on the dash signaling manual mode, and trying to shift does nothing. I even had one moment where it was in "manual mode" when the selector was actually still in the automatic mode. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. Sometimes it goes into manual but just wont shift, and sometimes it wont even switch to manual mode. What would cause this? It seems like such an odd problem, I would assume it's electrical...
I come today for a apparently transmission problem. I have an automatic VW Jetta 2000 2.0 that i bought a few months ago, the car is great, has 250K miles.
The problem is in the morning when car is still cold, the transmission isn't shifting gear until 3K RPM (For 1-2 is about 2.5K RPM, and 2-3 is about 3K RPM). After 5 minutes of driving all back to normality and transmission shift gear about 2.2K to 2.3K RPM.
The question is: this is normal?, what could be wrong?.
So last night I bought a rather nice low mileage tiptronic jetta for a good price that supposedly needs a new transmission (girl was quoted $5k to fix at a shop). The car starts right up and moves under it's own power...for about 2 minutes. I haven't actually driven the car but moved it forward and reverse a few times in the parking lot last night. Got out to look at something and when I got back in there was zero response from the tranny, any gear. Engine just revs. Seems a bit different than the usual slipping in gear or violent shifts these trannys are known for.

Diving along at 40mph, rpm's jump up so i let off the gas, get back in it and grabs for just a few seconds then acts like its in neutral. i put it in neutral and then back in drive. nothing, so i coast to the side of the road. get a tow back to my work. runs fine cel is on and all of the gears are lit up, as opposed to normally just the one your in lights up on the dash, reverse works normally and pulls well. Whats up with it.
Auto tiptronic, has no forward gears(acts like its in neutral). reverse works fine and pulls ok ...
My auto transmission is sticky at times. This usually happens after an hour of driving doesn't happen all the time. The gears start to change at high Rpms like 5 to 6k. It's real annoying. Otherwise the tranny is very smooth , like butter . Shifts into all gears.

It has 150,000 miles....the cars been working just fine untill DEC of last year. I had the dealer check the transmission fluid and they said it was low....so they flushed and refilled the transmission oil...they didnt see any metal but that didnt fix the problem.....
Now i have the car not shifting correctly ....theres a delay when shifting in all gears but it is intermittent, sometimes it shifts hard and sometimes you can just baby the throttle and it wont shift as hard.....once on the freeway the car runs fine......but when coming to a stop you can feel the downshifting.....
I figured it has something to do with the valve body....my concern is the dealerships have quoted me 2000$ to replace the valve-body....the cars paid for and was wondering if i should just move onto a different jetta or fix this one?
If i fix the valve body will this jetta have the same issue later? Also i do have the vacuum pump leaking engine oil....not much can this be fixed while doing the valve body job???
I have a 2007 Passat wagon 4 motion V6 and what the problem is I am getting a rough shift between 3-4 gear sometimes, usually on a slow acceleration. I have had the valve body replaced which worked for a couple of months until the problem returned. I then had the transmission replaced which worked a little but the rough shifting is still present at times. The car still has warranty and not even the dealership knows what to do?

View 4 RepliesI own a 2005 f-250 superduty with the 6L diesel. Just recently when I leave to work in the morning I notice the trans shifts slow through the gears and when it does start to shift it will start slipping then kinda vibrate for a few seconds then finally shifts into the next gear. It will do this through all the gears until I get up to speed on the highway. After it warms up it shifts and drives great until I let it sit for around 8hrs or more. I really hope I don't need a new Transmission considering I bought this truck as is from the dealership just a little over a month ago. I have checked the trans fluid it is full, I even drained all the fluid and replace with new and it still does the same thing.
View 4 RepliesMy 99 V6 with Tip just started to malfunction this past weekend. By malfunction, I mean when I shift over into Tip mode, the display remains on automatic and even shifting up and down will not change the tranny gear.
I was driving with the cruise on and shifted into Tip mode to slow down for a toll booth ( slow to 25 and not stop all the way). When I got through the booth, I hit resume on the cruise forgetting I had shifted into tip and the car revved back up to 65 mph in 3rd gear for about 5 seconds ( I had the stereo cranking and couldn't hear the engine)before I realized what I had done.
I tried to upshift in Tip but it wouldn't let me so I had to go back to full auto setting where it works fine.
Is it possible to burn out a fuse or circuit of some kind by doing a dipshizit maneuver like that? The car runs great otherwise and still is getting low to mid 20's mpg in spite of the ethanol crap.
BTW, just had the computer reflashed last week after putting a new battery in because the Throttle Body was not working properly.
How can I check level of oil in Tiptronic Transmission.
View 2 RepliesI have a 99 V6 B5 sedan & the tiptronic function is no longer working but the transmission works fine. When you place the transmission in tiptronic mode the transmission continues to stay in D. Is there a possibility that there is a faulty relay or some electrical malfunction?
View 2 RepliesI just got a 2000 passat wagon with a 1.8t and tiptronic transmission. The questions is when it is cold the transmission has a hard time to start driving. But as soon as it is warm it drives great. It is throwing a check engine code havent checked it yet.

View 1 RepliesOk so lately I noticed a horrific rattling coming from the rear of my car. It happens mostly when I'm in a high gear going slow with a load on the gear. It's sort of like the rattle that comes from the exhaust with the same gear load but it's much looser and rattley sounding, and it doesn't always do it. It almost sounds like a piece of sheet metal in my spare tire well rattling when there's a gear load and the exhaust rattles. But I checked in there and it seems tight.

Sometimes when i slow down to make a turn or stop at a stop sign my car just dies...that's it...it just turns off...but i turn the key and it starts right back up...the weird part is that i've had the car for a year and it only does it about once a month??? I took it to the dealer and...big surprise...they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it...it doesn't turn off while I'm driving on the highway or anything...only does it when i slow down to make a sharp turn or when i stop at a stop sign and go again... I might just trade it in for an Audi A4. I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8t...
View 24 RepliesI have a 04" GLI and I was thinking about doing a coolant flush. Looks like I have a slow leak. I was wondering where should I look in order to stop the leak. Put some coolant in about a month ago and now the coolant light is back on. Every morning when I pull out of my driveway there is a small leak under the driver side of my car. Is this an easy fix? If I do decide to do the coolant flush myself what is the recommended coolant replacement?
View 4 RepliesI have an 02 Jetta 1.8t automatic with about 140k miles. It has always been a great car. Last week, I was taking off from being stopped at a light and I heard a loud beep and saw that my oil pressure warning light was blinking! It blinked 3 times and then was gone, now last week temperatures were very low for my area. Today was actually pretty warm and sunny. I was stuck in gridlock traffic, it took me 25 minutes to go 1/4 mile. Idle, Idle, creep forward... Idle, Idle, creep forward...etc.
I noticed that the temp gauge read over 200, not in the red, but too close for my liking. Then a moment later when it was time for me to move up a bit, there was a beep and then that low oil pressure light again, 3 blinks and gone. I was panicked. I shut my engine off while I waited for traffic to move and when I would move forward it was the same thing. I finally pulled over, as I was stuck in traffic about 1000 feet from a friends house. I stayed there for 4 hours and then decided to fire her up again. Totally normal.
40 Minutes later as I rolled into my driveway, boom there was that light blink again... I am really concerned but confused by the light not staying on continuously and not having the check engine or any other warning light ever come on. It's weird to me that when this happens I am either taking off or coming to a stop, never going more than 5mph.
