So my ABS light turned on along with my MIL about a week ago. Figured the ABS module is done.
Today I turned on the car and now my MIL doesn't light up. Pressed the ASR switch (normally lights up MIL) and nothing. I went as far and unplugging the battery for a few minutes and even unplugging the MAF to see if it will light up.
Nothing. I highly doubt the light in the cluster is done.
I have a problem with that, when i'm in a low height with my car, i turn right and the hole car vibrates, like rubbing in the axle, its no heating the frame, both sides are new, i change because of that, check everything, also change engine mount, top mounts are camber plates, running bags over coil, and all suspension its new. only part thats original are the front bearings, can be the bearings?
View 17 RepliesThe dealer diagnosed my a/c as needing a new compressor and clutch. I had an a/c specialty shop install a remanufactured compressor and clutch. however, they could not get the compressor to kick on. I checked all fuses (all are good).
I checked the compressor continuity (good, 0 ohms). I checked the plug where the compressor clutch plugs in (it reads 12 volts). the funny thing is, it reads 12 volts anytime the engine is running (even if the climatroinc is turned off). I am definitely not an a/c expert and really don't know how this stuff works.
I have a mk4 gti vr6 just lowered on GT street performance couplers , looks great but now i have vibration when I'm turning. Why?

Sometimes (not always) when cornering to the left in a curve the ESP activates even on dry asphalt. A bit annoying.
What I have checked so far; tire pressure, no fault codes on abs sensors, wheel alignment just done (but didn't work). Abs, esp and awd works as normal...
For the last few thousand miles my 99.5 jetta has been making a popping noise (many pops, not just one) only when turning right under acceleration. (No noise when coasting or decelerating in gear and turning right, no noise under any circumstances). no pulsing in the brakes, and the car appears aligned well as it tracks nicely.
The noise is rotational, the faster you go, the faster the pops happen (again, it will make many popping noises, not just one). Probably once per revolution on the tires, not entirely sure. And it is, with as much certainty as i can have, coming from the front passenger side of the car.
I took it into the mechanic twice, first time they couldn't hear it and sent it back. Second time they said it was likely the CV joint so replaced both on the passenger side.
I have to admit that I didnt notice the noise for about 300 miled after that service, and I did try to get it ot happen. but its back now.
All boots and ball joints look ok and no grease has slung out. I am thinking it might be a wheel bearing at the extremely early stages of going.
Right now i am on a "wait and see if it gets worse " course. For the last 1500 or so miles it has not seemed to have changed.
When I turn the key in the ignition, almost nothing happens. There is no resistance when turning the key. Accessory power works (interior overhead lights, dash back lighting, door open sound) but no dash lights or headlights (just the front passenger parking light comes on). Tried to get a jump but nothing happened, not even the headlights came on. Haven't tried push start yet. I suspect an issue with the ignition switch, but I found another thread that suggested it could also be traced to certain fuses.
View 3 RepliesIn the past week I have three instances where my Jetta will not start. I end up taking the Touareg. When I get home, I try the Jetta again and it starts right up. The engine is turning over but nothing happens. When I turn on the acc, I can hear the fuel pump.
View 21 Replies2 weeks ago my fans stayed on all day and killed my battery. Did a bunch of research and found that the FCM would be a possible place to start. FCM was literally in pieces under the battery. Replaced it with a new one. Still no fans. Popped open the fuse box on top of the battery. Fuse closest to the engine was blown and the plastic had started to melt. Bought a whole new one of these and replaced it. This time I read about the AC test with the car off. AC works (which is a pleasant surprise) but only the big drivers side fan works. The small passenger side fan never turns on. Turned the key off and the fan stops so that's good, I think. Ever since then my battery gets drained if it sits for so many hours.
Everything I read points to that fan going bad and becoming inoperable. But is that what is causing my battery to drain? Today I pulled the fuse nearest the engine when I got to work to see if my battery stays charged all day. Well as of right now it will not even turn over. Went out after work and it turned over 6 times but did not start. Started to jump it using my buddies car. Let it charge for 20 minutes and now it wont turn over. Have dash lights. Glow plug light is working as it should. Headlights everything works. Charged up the battery. Have 13 volts at the battery. Doesn't make a difference. Still will not turn over. Going to pull my battery tray after work and see if I can see the solenoid. Will see if I have any power there. Can I see the solenoid from the top of the car? Probably not...
I hear this most days I get home after my drive home from work. What this might be? (Video included)....
View 2 RepliesSo I was driving down the road today and my car just shut off. No turning back at all. It is still trying to start. Battery is fine, terminals are fine, it acts like it wants to start but won't start. It's been running fine for a long time now. I think it may be the fuel pump. I'm going to take the fuel line out when I get home and see if it's getting fuel.
Door doesn't make the buzzing sound when you open the door. The car is also on air ride...

View 8 RepliesI have some sort of electrical/wiring issue with my 2005 GTI Auto transmission. Ever since I've owned the car every now and then, it won't start at all; the clock will reset and so will the trip meter. When this happens, it makes a weird buzzing sound while I'm turning the key, and after I let off, the turn signal will click until I pull the key out. I usually have success starting it after playing with the buttons on the turn signal. All fuses are good, and the battery is always charged, because the stereo and lights will work fine. I'm assuming it's either a short or a problem with the turn signal relay...
View 1 RepliesMy buddy with his 2000 jetta 2.0 that starts then stalls. The immobilizer light turns on and off again as it should during the starting process. Tried reprogramming the key with the 2 key programming process, also tried removing power from the battery and touching the leads together but these are fixes for the immobilizer but the light doesn't stay flashing. Is there anything I can try while waiting for my vag-com scanner to be delivered....
View 1 RepliesMy Jetta makes a clicking/clanking noise when I turn my steering wheel from standstill. I was told it was my CV joints. So I replaced them and its still making the noise. I was told then it was my struts/shocks. Is this true? The sound is coming from the front driver side wheel. Also, when looking at this tire. I noticed that while this one does have some wear it is even throughout the tire. However, this tire has more wear than the others. The others look brand new.

Pretty much every time I back up and turn, I hear one loud, single pop from the front end. Occasionally, it will happen when I start forward from a stop (if turning) but that's it. It never happens at any other time. I can't decide if it's suspension or steering related. Where could this be coming from?
I have gone through the front end thoroughly and the only issue I find is my passenger inner CV boot has begun to crack and has lost some grease. I would expect a CV failure to click anytime I'm moving and turning. Again, I never hear this noise under any other circumstances.
I just had an alignment done and the steering wheel is turned counter clockwise a little. I know very little about alignment. I know the terminology and what it means and i heard the the rear camber and toe isn't adjustable on mk4s. I did lower my car,only about one inch though.

So car not turning over after replacing (right side) headlight assembly. Was turning over prior. Replaced the battery, same result.
View 4 Replies2K 1.8T Golf. Lowered on Koni struts and neuspeed street (red) springs last year. Rear axel bushing done soon after. Replaced front and rear strut mounts and bearings at the time of struts and springs. Rack died on me in the fall so I had it replaced along with newer control arms and upgraded bushings. Aligned right after the rack was installed and ran like an arrow until last weekend. Now it pull to right, more as I speed up. I also noticed that when I turn left, the steering is much stiffer then steering left (full turns and mild turns).
PS fluid is still full. My ball joints are about 3 years old so I'm leaning towards that direction. Especially after this past winter and the never ending pot holes in Detroit. The shop used moogs and were regularly greased as they had zerk fittings. I think I hear some clunking upfront but I'm unclear as my old GHL Muffler weld finally gave out and is having by a hockey lace and it is rattling every time I accelerate or hit a bump. I'm going to jack it up this weekend to do some exhaust work so I'll give it a good once over and shake down what I can.
So the trans on my '02 GTI 1.8T has started doing this exciting new thing where it won't shift out of first gear for a few minutes when it's cold. I had attributed this mainly to that pesky valve body everyone talks about and hadn't got around to doing anything yet, when something new happened.
I noticed that if I turn right within a minute of the transmission "starting to work again", it'll slip out of gear again. There's one turn it always happens on, an uphill right-hander down the street from home.
Anyway, is it possible that this transmission has had some fluid loss? I know they're supposed to be "no maintenance" ( lol ) but I've had the engine rebuilt in the last year and maybe the shop borked something while they were down there?
What are the possibilities here?
So I've had a low rubbing sound specifically when I'm turning or banking right. I don't want to put much more money into this mk4 because I'm planning on getting a new car in the next 12 months. How do I know which bearing needs replacing?
