Car was overheating for a long time. Went to start it and wouldn't start. Its been sitting for a while so I replaced the battery and now when the battery is connected its making a loud humming noise. And still no start. It turns over and sounds like its trying to start just won't start.
View 3 Replies2005 Jetta. The car makes a loud deep humming noise once I hit about 75mph, and goes away once I get to about 82 or so. I've taken it out of gear and matched the rpm I get at those speeds, and I don't hear the noise at all. It's only when I'm in gear. What this could be?

View 2 RepliesMy car has been having an issue with battery draw. when I don't drive it for 2-3 days the battery is drained enough for me to need my jump pack to start it. I have done a wire tuck on the motor and also have air ride. I hooked a wire up between the battery and the negative cable with a light connected and it lights up with the car off. What I have done so far is to pull each fuse in the door fuse panel individually and the light stayed on the entire time. Next I pulled the power feed to my air ride system out and the light flashes and I can hear what sounds like a relay clicking. If the issue were the air ride I would think disconnecting it would make the light go out.
I need to pull the fuse panel that was on top of the battery and pull those fuses out too. Should I try pulling the relays as well?
My jetta started making a loud screeching noise on initial start up, it only last a split second and sometimes it doesn't do it, I read it maybe my bushings need greased, but I didn't know if maybe it was something to do with my flywheel bc with my window down and at idle I can hear a faint tapping noise, I push the clutch in the noise goes away, car starts up fine with no hesitation and also shifts smooth...

In my searching I feel somewhat confident this is caused by a cheap right axle replacement. I also went under and found on the left axle markings that indicate its is oem VW and I was unable to find these on the right side. anyway I have found this: [URL]....
It says it is a hollow axle right there and it is 170 less than the cheapest oem one I have found. would this workout?
The engine cranks and tries to start when the battery is connected. It does this automatically, you don't even need the key or ignition to be turned on. The remote selonoid has been replaced so has the starter. The car does start and run when you let it but the starter remains engaged so its LOUD. I have bypassed the ignition switch by disconnecting it entirely, however the car still cranks and wants to turn on when the battery is connected.
View 7 RepliesI've searched the other "screaming" problems but they don't seem to fit, they're either when starting and/or cold, or when flooring it.
My car screams occasionally after I start it. Get in, crank car, let go of key, good beat of pause, and then SCREAM! It's fairly loud. Doesn't do it every time, does it whether hot or cold. Once or twice it screamed again after I had backed up and stopped (no it's not the brakes, they do squeal but it's a different sound).
When I am done accelerating and let off the gas and just cruise, i am getting a decently loud noise, enough so that you want to keep your foot on the accelerator a bit because under acceleration there is no noise. No noise at idle either. It's like downshifting to a lower gear at a higher rpm and how the engine noise is loud...but I think it's the tranny or something.
My mechanic (who is amazing) thinks it is the dual mass flywheel.
It is a 2004.5 GLI 6spd with 122,000 miles on the original clutch.
My car has started making this loud whistling noise. It only happens when right after starting it when it's sat for a few hours and fades out within 30 seconds but has lasted for a couple minutes before. It drives fine but I know the sound isn't normal. Here's a video of the noise: [URL] ....
View 1 RepliesI am having an issue with my 2002 GTI 1.8T. I have tried searching for an answer to this, and found a couple things saying maybe it could be the secondary air pump but wanted to get more opinions before I go shell out money to chase this problem.
When I start up the car in the morning after having it sit overnight, the car does the normal thing where it increases rpm's to about 1100 to warm it up. During this a loud "whistling" noise can be heard. Once the car is warmed up a little bit, the rpm's decline to about 900, and the whistling sound goes away. When this happens though it almost sounds as if a valve or something is closing causing the noise to go away.
Also, I am unsure if this is related to this, sometimes when I am driving, I will be accelerating and the car seems to stop accelerating as strong as it was, boost goes down from around 8 or 9 psi to about 4 and I seem to lose power as if I had let off the gas some. When I put my foot further down the car accelerates harder again and boost goes back up.
I have already changed spark plugs, cleaned MAF sensor, and run the 3m 3 part engine cleaning kit through it.
I have a mk4 golf gti vr6. For about the past month every few days when I shut off my car and then try to start it next time I get a very fast clicks. After I disconnect and reconnect the battery it starts up just fine. Yesterday after getting off the highway it shutoff when I came to a stop. Took the key out and before I disconnected the battery it started back up with a turn of the key. I'm guessing it's some kind of ECU issue because it starts up after I reconnect the battery?
View 9 RepliesThis is my first VW. My first European car at all. I've been having what I think are battery issues, but they're weird. Every... I'd say 3rd or 4th start, I just get the clickclickclickclickclick thing. Then I jump it and it starts fine. When I don't have to jump it, it's been starting rough. When I jump it is the only time it starts smoothly. To me that screams battery.
The other day, I went to start it and it wouldn't start. But I had nothing to do that day so I went back inside and did whatever. Went out about 5 hours later, and it started just fine.
I have an 02 GTI w/ 1.8t and 5spd. I was in the drive through and all of the sudden the ABS, ASR, and seatbelt lights came on and the battery light is randomly blinking. I got home turned the car off and went to restart it and when I turn the key nothing happens. I should also mention I recently have 2 cels for p0701 lean condition and bank 1&3 misfires that developed after I replaced a bad injector. Where do I even start?

I have no clue what it is i even asked my mechanic who has been working on volkswagens for years and he said hes never heard anything like it.
View 1 RepliesI'm not sure if this qualifies for a "cold start" but my 1.8T sounds imperfect when I start it for the first time of the day. It'll rev around 1200 RPM, instead of the normal 800RPM idle if I start it after it had recently been turned off for a short period.
It sounds almost like my old car that had an exhaust leak, but not as obnoxious. When it settles back down to 800RPM it really purrs and sounds great. Is this normal?
2003 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T, not sure if I wrote that in my profile yet. 41k miles and recently serviced for 40k milage. Has sounded this way before and after the service.
B6 manual, after 20k miles with Dunlop Sport Maxx 235-40-18 tires (still pleny of tread left, even on fronts) a moderately loud humming noise has developed, loudest at 35 mph but even heard at 10mph, with an irritating resonance of subwoofer-type. Noise changes somewhat with road surface, but not much. Not related to engine speed, gearbox, or radio. My next step will be to swap wheels.
For now, any thoughts as to the cause?
I am hearing this buzzing sound in my trunk its really loud for ex: those annoying sounds people played as kids that people over "18" cant hear...back to the point its by my rear left tail light inside that area where all the wiring is also kinda hear it where the spare tire is all my lights work I unplugged the light and it still made the sound! It only does it when the car is running. Car is stock aside that it has no radio and the cd changer in the area that noise is coming from idk if its because a few wires that connect to the cd changer or what ever it is are unplugged but its coming from that area of the car its really high pitch and annoying.
View 13 RepliesI recently bought a 2000 Golf VR6 and I've noticed that my fan to the radiator stays in way too long and think it might be draining my battery. I don't even have to start the engine, once I put my key in the fan starts going. I'm getting really annoyed of having to take the out the fuse to get it to turn off. The battery is brand new so I don't think that's the problem.
View 1 RepliesRecently bought a MK4 for 1500, I already knew the car would have problems at some point. To make a long story short. I was driving yesterday, I was in 5th gear, going around 55 mph. Out of no where my battery light comes on and next thing I know the power steering goes. The car completely shut off out of no where, there was no noise or anything that would warn me except the battery light. So I automatically thought the alternator must have went. I checked the alternator and battery. The battery was from September of 2011 so.I bought a new one and thought that maybe that was the problem. The car didn't do anything, it didn't even crank it would do absolutely nothing. The funny part is, which has me puzzled is that the lights, radio and other electronics work fine. I don't know if it's either the alternator, ignition coil, the starter, or the wire harness. What this could be?

I have a 01 VR6, When I put my air circulation (warm or cold, doesn't matter) to 1 or 2 on vent control, its fine. However, when i put it to 3 or 4, there is a LOUD kind of "whirring" type air noise that comes from the Passenger Glove Box area. I also feel a little bit of the vibration on the brake pad. Not sure what this is?....
