I have a 02m and I believe my transmission is leaking from this hole. The hole is located right behind the starter. Is there any plug or something that belongs in that hole? It tends to leak more or only when I drive it.
View 4 RepliesI suspected I had a vacuum leak somewhere, was told it wasn't likely. Just installed a tune in the evening drove it 15 miles was pretty sure I had one.
Installed Forge DV the next morning it was evident I had one by the sound the DV was Making. I checked the car head to toe and found two lines had broken apart. I replaced them will silicone lines and it appeared to be fixed.
Drove it 5 miles and the 'turkey sound' came back. (This is the sound that I originally heard and confirmed I had a vacuum leak somewhere)
I searched all over there car, had a second set of eyes that was mechanically inclined and we found nothing obviously causing a problem. We ended up just taking off the Forge DV and testing it by hand it held up and re installing it and securing it.
Strange enough that fixed the problem (no other hoses were tampered with while we were inspecting)
Drove the car home about 15 miles and stopped in a drive through. At some point while sitting something happened. Cause when I left the drive through then I noticed the car seemed to be lacking at low end, turned down the music and I could hear the turkey call. I left the car alone for the night. Thought maybe heat jas a factor in this. Drove it this morning and it was just how I left it. I inspected the hoses and found no change. I took the DV off and inspected then re installed. I noticed the turkey call was not as predominant but still completely present.
While washing the Tdi lately I've noticed water leaking into the cabin from a point just overhead the dead pedal. Where this leak may be originating from?

View 6 Replies02 Jetta 2.0L that I changed the thermostat. o-ring, and cover on when I first got the car about a year and a half ago.
I see dry g12 coming out from behind the cover and my coolant bulb had dipped quite a bit in recent weeks requiring a refill. What is most likely the problem here in such a short period of time? I've only put like 10k miles on the car in that period. O-ring couldn't have seated wrong because wouldn't the problem have been apparent immediately back when I did the job? Maybe I need to re-torque the cover? Cracked cover?
My car has been leaking coolant as soon as you put it in from it looks like the transmission area. Today I filled the car with water and drove it on the interstate to work. The car started getting jerky like it was losing power. So I pulled over and when I did the car shut off. There was excessive smoke under the hood and after removing the oil cap, smoke coming from there also. Tried restarting and it sounds like it just spins. No start. Looked at the timing belt, it's still intact. Put a wrench on the crank pulley and it's turning. What's wrong? Is it a goner?

Went home ate my food and came out and looked underneath the Jetta and found a substantial coolant leak..... My heater core is bad I know this already... Would this cause coolant to leak outside the car or the carpet only??? I jacked up the car and checked for leaks... There is coolant all over the rear engine mount... And the driver side corner of the engine is pretty soaked in coolant....I can't pin point the leak..... There is a connection coming out of the side of the head that's got a little pinky crusty stuff on it but I can't see anywhere around it...
View 5 RepliesJust purchased a 01 golf 1.8t 5spd and noticed it has a small coolant leak.. Left parking over 2 days in the same spot and it builds up a little puddle.. It's dripping down off of my oil pan and I haven't been able to trace it back to where the leak is coming from..
I've been told it could be my water pump? The car has 92k miles.
Car leaks anitfreeze once again. The first time my hose exploded and my temperature light came on. Car was towed and my fans stopped working. Got that fixed. When this happened my car was on park. I turned on my fans and the fluid was leaking from the cap of the container. The whole anti freeze was everywhere. I am guessing something messed up in the engine so idk what to do anymore. I filled the anti freeze container with water and drove home with no problems. I don't know whats wrong with the car I am at the point where i just want to get rid of it. Car is a 99 vw golf gls 2.0 140k ....
View 6 RepliesI have a 04" GLI and I was thinking about doing a coolant flush. Looks like I have a slow leak. I was wondering where should I look in order to stop the leak. Put some coolant in about a month ago and now the coolant light is back on. Every morning when I pull out of my driveway there is a small leak under the driver side of my car. Is this an easy fix? If I do decide to do the coolant flush myself what is the recommended coolant replacement?
View 4 RepliesGot a CEL tonight while driving. Originally I was driving and the light came on saying that my gas cap was loose. I corrected the problem when I got home and tightened again. The light stayed on however. I ran a scan with the OBDII and it gave me a code for EVAP- Very Small Leak .
I was reading around and some people suggested the MAF. Which would make sense because I recently had all of that stuff off and gave the engine a deep cleaning while it was exposed. I just don't see how the MAF could relate to the code my car is pushing?
I drive a 2003 24V VR6 GLI
I recently did a valve cover repair to stop the dreaded misfire problem. Well, I'm still waiting on a few things but during the spark plug change obviously some of the oil from where the valve cover leaked previously fell into the pistons because I couldn't really clean it all out efficiently. This seems like it would cause a lot of problems? Do you think I should throw old spark plugs in there and let all the oil burn up before finally replacing them? I really don't want to foul up my brand new NGK's.
Also, I pulled p0300, p0305, p0306, so I am guessing oil in the spark plug/coil pack connection may cause some of the misfires, but do you think two of my coil packs are bad still? My plan was to move them around to see what happens after I get the new parts and am actually running again.
2003 GLI 2.0 engine
We have a significant coolant leak. The attached pic is of a coolant pipe which runs down from the rear of the head at the firewall. This was taken from the underside looking up.

I need replacement vacuum hose part for my GTI 337. The piece that is disconnected is the hose from the break booster to the intake manifold. It appears to be at a one way valve. I found a picture from a different DIY, that I have circled in green. The red arrow points to the place where it separated. I am not sure if this is a matter of me using a new clamp or buying a new piece of hose from advanced auto parts. The vacuum sets on ECS Tuning and it doesn't appear to be the correct set.

Brief back story, a year ago my timing belt went and had to replace the cylinder head and all associated parts. No problems since then, until now. Recently the check engine has come on, and got the code for an exhaust leak. Can't remember the exact code number, but the leak wasn't causing a lean condition or causing the engine to act weird so I left it until I had to time to find the leak. On the way home today I noticed an exhaust leak that got increasingly worse to the point where at a stop light I'd go to accelerate and it would pull away very sluggishly. Got home, opened the hood and tracked down the exhaust leak to somewhere around the manifold/downpipe/turbo area. I took off my cover and noticed what could be a bolt missing, and upon further inspection a bolt that may be coming loose.
Here's what I'm referring to:

My 2000 jetta glx is leaking coolant fast enough to empty the reservoir from full in about 10 minutes but only does it while running. Why this is or what I should look at fixing?
View 2 RepliesMy 04' GTI, 24v VR6, all stock, @ 107,000. I had a coolant leak from the t-stat housing. I installed all new housing, seals, and C-Pipe from GruvenParts. Already had a green CT sensor installed and the kit I got didn't come with one, so I didn't change it. Found out the leak was from the t-stat housing o-ring didn't fit the old housing. The new one fits perfect. I put coolant on the seals and burped it. Doesn't leak a drop. But still overheating, all the hoses have pressure and are hot, so no blockage....I noticed the fans were not coming on at all. The fans used to engage every other minute and run for 15 secs on high ONLY. Longer times, if not constantly w/ A/C on. I was wondering how to test the fans, sender, and/or fan control module to see which one of them isn't working. And which pinouts are what?
View 2 RepliesMy 2000 Jetta 2.0 has a coolant leak. I searched and found a lot of mentions of the flange on the driver's side, and I have coolant dripping from the bottom of the car in a location that seems consistent with that, but I felt all around the flange and the hoses that are connected to it and it feels dry.
Where else could it be coming from? (yeah, I could jack it up climb under and look, but I haven't had time yet). I also seem to have an oil leak around the same location, but the dipstick tube was cracked near where it went in to the engine so I'm hoping that was the source of the oil.
Noticed fluid under the car two days after my dyno run but assumed it was from excess GumOut. I ran 3 tanks of fuel and the car is dripping fluid so the GumOut is not the problem. Closer investigation lead to fluid build up around the drive shaft on my passenger side. The driver side fits flush with the transmission housing but the passenger side has a gap.
Is the gap normal? It looks strange, kinda like the shaft is sliding out from the transmission. Again, the left sits flush. There is a small rubber gasket between the shaft and the housing. My passenger side has a 1/4 inch gap from the shaft to the housing and there is no rubber gasket. The undercarriage is soaked now. I will fill up THE transmission with fluid and take it to PTP.
What is the problem? Bad seals? Is there something missing? Did the dyno mess me up?
Recently purchased 2003 golf gti 1.8t that had a leak on left side of engine i think it was engine coolant hose flange it Didn't leak much and coolant stayed at 190. I took the car to a mechanic and he replaced the leaking hose but now the car rises past 190 at idle.
View 2 RepliesHad a P2181 come up twice now... both on startup on a cool morning. Came on again this weekend. Monday morning I noticed a small coolant leak under the front of the car directly in line with the passenger headlight, but it only leaks if I park the car with the front down a slope. I parked uphill on Monday night and no leak in the morning, but I backed in facing downhill on Tuesday and had a small leak when I checked late last night.
So, last night I broke out the UV/black light -- G12 seems to fluoresce yellow'ish. I couldn't see much, so it is a small leak. There is some wetness on the bottom passenger side of the rad that's dripping over the back side of the front bumper/lip. No wetness around any other hoses, thermostat housing, temp sensor, turbo lines. But that's all from the top view. No time yet this week to get it up on stands to pull the bumper/splash shields for a closer look either.
I am little concerned tho as there's some wetness around the valve cover and when I pulled the oil cap my eyes suggested a bit of fluorescence under the cap and inside the valve cover. I'm a little worried oil and coolant may be meeting up somewhere... And to think... I was just in the process of getting geared up to do brakes and plugs before getting a modest tune (stage 1).
