View 14 RepliesI just had my stock clutch replaced with a South Bend Stage II, of the most recent generation.
It's making a weird noise, and sounds pretty bad... kinda like a rough TDI. It makes the sound when in gear, either accelerating or decelerating. There isn't any noise to speak of at idle.
The sound it makes is kinda like this: [URL]................................
2004 Jetta GLI - I am getting a hissing sound when accelerating. Could it be the Turbo?
View 2 RepliesThere's this 1.8t gti I'm buying this week from a family member and we've been trying to solve an issue that we ran into. When accelerating the car there is a hissing noise, safe to say that it is air. Then when accelerating a little harder and you feel the turbo pulling you everything seems fine. But a second or so after , the turbo dies off and so does the hissing noise. Then I can let go of the gas and repeat the process and it happens again.
My issue is that I cant figure it out since I Need to be driving to hear the hissing and the turbo cut off. I looked around the threads but nothing really seems to match my issue. No codes either. On top of that I've never owned a 1.8t and don't know much about its turbo.
Quick q recently just got a gli and I've noticed a knocking sound when accelerating and shifting from stops could this be my motor mounts ? I was thinking my tranny or clutch but everything runs smooth and goes into gear fine...
View 1 RepliesA clunk sound coming from the front end. Drivers side and Passenger side. Not really a metal on metal sound. The problem started after coilover install. The sound occurs while braking and accelerating over bumps. So what I've replaced:
-Strut Mounts and Bearings
-Lower control arm bushings (R32 bushings)
-Drivers Side CV axle
What I've checked:
-Tie rod ends have no play
-Ball joints have no play.
-I have no sway bar, so not the sway bar bushings.
-Its not the axle hitting the frame.
Could possibly be the dog bone mount but when I installed the 1' motor mounts I saw no issue but could possibly be the bushing. feel the clunk in my foot as well.

1.8t AWP, driving in any gear, and when i let go of the gas, you hear a ticking sound, as if you're riding a mountain bike and you stop pedaling. That kinda ticking. Is this normal? Have never heard it before.
View 24 RepliesSo I have a 05 mk4 golf 2.0 automatic. Ive noticed that when i take it from park to drive the car shakes and makes a huge clunk sound like I just got hit by something. Turns out it was a motor mount, I think they call it the dog bone cause its attached to the body & engine of the car. So it was replaced but the car still does it. But not as hard & not as much. Before when I revved the car it would kind of shake and dance. Since the replacement it parks still when I rev it. But that noise is still there. Someone told me it could be another mount or the torque converter.
View 2 RepliesI have an 06 4-cylinder Camry LE. I recently had the belt tensioner, idler bearing, and water pump replaced under warranty. I originally went in to have it looked at because it was making a rattling/humming sound when I put it into gear, but would go away for the most part after running down the road for awhile. The other day, I had to back up to the house (on an incline) and it started making that same noise, but louder. For the most part, it goes away after driving, but I can still feel that humming vibration in the gas pedal however. I took it into the dealer and had them inspect it again. I was told that it is nothing to be concerned about. The computer was checked and came back clean. It was stated in my invoice as the following:
"Due to prolonged disconnect of the battery during previous repair. The engine needs to relearn all it's preset values. This condition is not a problem."
I have stumbled across others stating a possible valve issue, along with "you need to replace the water pump," which I already did.
First time owning a VW (Nissan guy but got love for the VW). So I am having 3 issues
1. This is the major issue. My battery is not charging. I have replaced both Alternator and Battery so i know the issue isnt there. I took it to an import shop (I can't diagnose electrical issues to save my life) they told me the positive terminal cable needs to be swapped out. Before I put down money for the part and swap it out I wanted to know if this sounds correct (or at least like a possible solution)
2. While driving the turn signal clicking sound will randomly come on from 5 seconds - 2 mins and then turn off. Some days its worse some days it's not.
3. I think this is a solenoid issue but maybe I am wrong. For about a week the car would not shift to the next gear unless RPM's hit 6k. I mean I would have to floor it to get the thing to shift to the next gear. It shifts down fine. I haven't had the issue in a few weeks but I would rather take care of it if possible.
These are all electrical issues and it would be awesome if they all were related but i'm honestly only concerned about the first one as I can deal with the annoyance of the second 2. This is my first VW and so far me and my family love it.
Just to start off my tires are hankook ventus v4's
- 2 months ago I had my tires rotated front to rear for the first time since ive owned the car. (Previous owner had put new tires a little before i bought it) Pulling away I immidiately noticed a humming sound whenever i left off the gas. Sounded kind of like the tire was rubbing against the fender but nothing was. Went back and they said it was just the way the tires had worn.
- A couple days later I had the tires rotated BACK to the way they originally were and the noise was gone.
- OK, so a couple weeks ago i go to put two front tires and get a four wheel alignment. After this the noise started right up again. Went back and they said it was because the alignment had been so off that it had caused the rear tires to wear uneven.
- FINALLY, i went back and put two rear tires of the exact same type and guess what...the noise didnt go away...at all
So ive ruled out it being a noise from the tires as they are all brand new. The tire shop said that it could be the wheel bearings but ive always known for wheel bearings to make a deeper hum and this noise is only when i left off the gas and increases with speed, touch the gas and it goes away.
I am hearing this buzzing sound in my trunk its really loud for ex: those annoying sounds people played as kids that people over "18" cant hear...back to the point its by my rear left tail light inside that area where all the wiring is also kinda hear it where the spare tire is all my lights work I unplugged the light and it still made the sound! It only does it when the car is running. Car is stock aside that it has no radio and the cd changer in the area that noise is coming from idk if its because a few wires that connect to the cd changer or what ever it is are unplugged but its coming from that area of the car its really high pitch and annoying.
View 13 RepliesMy DSG Autobahn 4 dr with 4800 miles has developed a humming and vibration at highway speeds and my dealer and I are stumped as to what it is. I don't really hear the humming until 60mph+ but then its a 1 second pulsing hum coming from the front of the car and I can feel some vibration through the pedals and floor board.
The dealer has checked all wheel bearings and actually replaced the passenger side front bearing. They have also rotated all the tires and one rim that was slightly bent was swapped with another wheel but this did nothing to eliminate the sound. I'm waiting for my dealer to get back to me of when a VW engineer would be available to have go at it.
2005 Jetta. The car makes a loud deep humming noise once I hit about 75mph, and goes away once I get to about 82 or so. I've taken it out of gear and matched the rpm I get at those speeds, and I don't hear the noise at all. It's only when I'm in gear. What this could be?
View 4 RepliesSo I just but my golf about a month ago and have hit many problems but the most annoying is the hum I get at 3500 rpms. In my searching I feel somewhat confident this is caused by a cheap right axle replacement. I also went under and found on the left axle markings that indicate its is oem VW and I was unable to find these on the right side. anyway I have found this: [URL]....
It says it is a hollow axle right there and it is 170 less than the cheapest oem one I have found. would this workout?
When I am in reverse sometimes the left rear makes a loud humming sound like the brakes are rubbing or something. What do you think this is???
View 3 RepliesThis is my first all wheel drive car and same goes for having a car in which the battery is in the rear floor. My question is the following.. Whenever the car is on and radio off I hear a humming sound while at idle. At first I thought it was the SAT radio (while vol all the way down) but that was not it. Its coming from the rear right side and almost sounds like a fuel pump/something electrical. It kinda sounds like a transformer or something like that. Since the battery is in the back and there is a fuse relay box aprox. 3 inches from the spare tire, I wonder if all these electronics are making this noise? Or is my car coming to life?
View 11 RepliesI just came back from a long weekend and left my 2010 GTI in the garage at home. When I returned the battery was 100% dead. Got a friend to jump it and it refused to start for about 30 minutes. Finally it grudgingly turned over and eventually started. So I drove it around for an hour, came home, turned it off and tried to start it - to see if it had charged at all. Again it turned over very slowly, and eventually started up. Seems very strange that it's so slow to charge.
So now I have it on a trickle charger and with the engine off I noticed a weird humming/buzzing sound. It seems to be coming from underneath, somewhere in front/near the right rear wheel. I waited 30 minutes to see if it would turn off once the car cooled. But it's still running. I've never heard that before and no wonder the battery died. What's going on? This is a mystery.
Car was overheating for a long time. Went to start it and wouldn't start. Its been sitting for a while so I replaced the battery and now when the battery is connected its making a loud humming noise. And still no start. It turns over and sounds like its trying to start just won't start.
View 3 Replies2005 jetta. On the highway when I hit about 75mph I hear this loud humming coming from either the engine or the exhaust, I'm not sure. It disappears immediately once I cross about 82mph. What could this be? Why such a specific range?
View 2 RepliesSo I have a 2014 VW GTI 4DR 6speed with 25,000 miles on her now and I am getting this weird noise from what i believe is the front end right wheel?
The noise is similar to a rubbing / humming sound that occurs below 10MPH and then increases with repetition at say above 60MPH. I notice a little harder of a rubbing when wheel is turned at say when i pull out from a stop sign!
ALL that i have done was put on hubcentric spacers and that i pulled off to see if noise stopped but it didn't! Could the supplied bolts be to long? I had removed dust caps on rear for clean fitment and sanded any imperfections on all hubs.
The noise isn't loud at all but is definitely noticeable with radio off and windows up!
Could this be a wheel balance issue? Tie rod or arm? Bent RIM?
