A grinding/crunching noise recently started happening to my 2001 vw vr6 12v.seems to be coming from the front of the car but only when i accelerate. I hear it through all the gears and am a little concerned as winter is approaching.

View 1 RepliesI bought a mk iv 2.0 GTi last week and twice now I've heard a sound what i can only describe as someone stamping on an empty can after switching off the ignition and opening the driver side door.
The sound, sounds like it comes from under the bonnet.
The car runs sweet engine is all clean sounds ok no other knocks or bangs.
What could be causing this? It seems to happen after the engine is warm and I've given it some throttle but only when the engine has just been turned off.
Clunking and grinding coming out of the front especially when i turn the front wheels even in neutral gears ? Really bad noise,all gears go in fine!! even when i drive strait with no gears u feel that clunking noise.
View 1 Replies2012 truck, started making a noise today. I cannot tell what it is, but seems to be coming from the passenger front suspension, its a crunching/light clunking sound, happens when going over bumps, when the truck pitches one way or the other turning, and coming to a stop....
Truck has 6k miles, I did a quick visual inspection this afternoon, didn't notice much, but the sway bar endlink looked a bit odd though, not sure if normal, its gota little bend too it and seems to just contact the vac line mounted behind it, seemed unusual...
Maybe its its just one of the crappy rancho branded shocks is junk?
A year ago I heard occasional metal grinding noise coming from the front, sounding like front driver side. Sounded like CV joints that I heard before. The mechanic said it's transfer case/transmission problem, so I replaced the transmission but the noise came back a few days later. The mechanic said to drive it for a while and the noise may go away, if getting worse he can fix it since it has 2-year warranty.
Now a year later the noise becomes predicable and easily reproducible, I went back and asked them to check. They said it may be passenger side axle. I am feeling being manipulated.
I've been trying to chase down a creaking noise from what I think is the front passenger side for about a month now -- it happens when I accelerate and the weight of the car (2005 mercury mariner) shifts. It's mostly a creak but almost a knocking/crunching sound that seems to correspond to when I give it gas.
I recently got my sway bar links and tie rod ends replaced, so I could have sworn it was a bushing on the control arm. Spraying silicone grease doesn't do anything, and last night I noticed what I think is the same noise happen when I shift from park to drive.
Could this be a worn motor mount? I'd rather replace that on my own than have to bring it in and get a new control arm installed so I can get a realignment.
I hear a roaring noise coming from the front of my 2003 Jetta. I know it needs some kind of front end work, but I am not sure what. The front passenger side tire also wore badly and prematurely on the inside and outside.

Last week my passenger side motor mount broke the bolt snapped off and my engine fell on the ground and cracked the oil pan, too make a long story short someone put the wrong bolt in it and I fixed it with the right bolt. When the engine fell and the pan cracked i immediately shut the car off and coasted to the side of the road. I checked all bolts on the car to see if anything was loose but nothing was. But now when i start to take off i hear a clunk from the front end and i do not know what it is or could be. It is not the axles there is two brand new ones in it and have been checked. What it could be?

2008 Prius with 105k miles was throwing code (P0A92) and had accompanying grinding/crunching noise. Intermittently, The HV battery would drain down and the car would have difficulty starting. The car was stranded in the middle of a 2,000-mile trip in October after extended use of the A/C, and was left at a friend's house until February.
After weeks of arguments with local Toyota dealerships, who refused to listen to Toyota's national service representatives and demanded that we purchase a replacement battery for $3,000, I purchased and installed a HybridAutomotive grid charger. The Prius started and drove, but lost power about 10 miles into the drive back. Being in a hurry, we resolved to return with a trailer and tow the car back to my shop.
A replacement, low-miles transmission was installed per directions in the FSM. There was some trouble getting the inverter pump to bleed (I ended up taking off the return hose & pouring coolant backwards through the pump), and I had to swap in a spare 12v battery due to the old one being discharged. The car showed codes C0205 and C0200 (left front wheel speed sensor signal malfunction, right front wheel speed sensor signal malfunction), but no other issues.
About two weeks and 3,000 miles into the transmission swap, the battery I'd swapped in would no longer fire up the computer. A test showed the battery I'd swapped in (which I purchased in 2005) was only outputting 300 CCAs (out of a rated ~1,000). The Prius accessory battery was charged and reinstalled. The battery started the car, but would often need to be charged overnight in order to start the car (even though it would pass voltage and CCA tests). When the car won't start, attempting to jump it off another car doesn't work, and the battery had given readings as low as 10.5 volts, indicating a bad cell.
Yesterday, I had the car's owner run the in-car test procedure. Voltage was 12.3 without load, 12.0 with load. The third test could not be completed because the car shuts down. As the voltages were slightly low, the battery was replaced under warranty, but the car is exhibiting the same symptoms with the new battery. I'm now suspecting a bad inverter and/or failed inverter pump.
I have a 2007 Honda Civic with about 46,000 miles on it. I purchased the car "certified used" about 1 1/1 years ago. For the past several months I've been experiencing a grinding/crunching noise when I apply the brake in reverse. I've taken it to a Honda dealer and they more or less told me that it sounds like something could have been wrong with the brakes. They ended up telling me they couldn't find anything wrong and that my brakes are fine. I've called the dealer to see if they could look at it again, but now my car isn't under warranty and they'll charge me to look at it. What could be causing this noise? At this point in time it's more annoying than anything - I'm afraid if I let it go it might end up hurting something in the long run.

View 9 RepliesI purchased a 2002 gti in Febuary with 161k miles. I believe it was a couple weeks after I bought it - it started making this creaking sound. At first it was more rare to hear it but it occurred going on uneven surfaces like up a steep hill or around an uneven turn or even stopping and going. It basically happened when the front end pitched up/down. It sounds almost like a rubber creaking or even plastic. (Some sort of bushing maybe? I'm no expert) Now it is rare for it not to make the creaking when taking off or slowing to a stop. It only occurs at lower speeds like right when taking off or at the very end of the stop right before the actual stop.
It will even slightly make the noise when accelerating in second gear right after shifting. (This is occasional) When I come to a complete stop and turn the wheel side to side ot will make the sound for a couple of turns and then go away. I have tried rocking the car and pushing down on it to replicate the sound. No luck. I lubricated various bushings and parts with silicon. It seemed to fix it but it only lasted for a few hours. (This could've been coincidental) It doesn't make the sound 100% of the time though. Probably at least 90% though when coming to a stop and going. It seems as the environmental factors (Temp and humidity) have a small effect on the creaking. I have a neuspeed 25mm front swaybar with endlinks.
I've got a 2004...it has 90,000 miles. For about the last 5000 miles I've been experiencing - only a few times a month, and totally out of the blue - a grinding noise coming from the front (i think left). This happens when I'm traveling at about 55-58 mph (never at lower speeds). It even happened once when the cruise was set. It gets pretty loud, and i find that if i pull over and stop for a few seconds, then keep going, that it stops. In other words, it seems that breaking to a stop disengages whatever the cause is. Also, no warning lights come on at all...like i said, it happens totally out of the blue. No, it's not the wheel bearing.
View 6 RepliesAs I begin to accelerate a humming sound from the front of the car begins. The noise becomes more pronounced the faster I go. No additional noise is made when I brake or turn, nor does it appear to be any noise when I went in reverse. I made a 180 mile trip on Sunday with no problems, although I did travel at closer to 55mph than 65. The car has 170,000 miles on it and has had most of its scheduled maintenance performed.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 SF Ltd. About 6 months ago I noticed a tiny grinding noise coming from the front end. I took it to the place that installed the brakes and rotors and had them look at it. The said that they didn't see anything but the cleaned up the rotors and oiled the slide pins. That didn't seem to sold the problem, so I took it to the shop that does all my inspections and such. They mentioned that they didn't see anything and that if if was only first thing in the morning, it might be some very minor rust that is building and being worn off. Lately, the grinding noise has gotten much more consistent and loud. Both places said the pads looked almost new and other than the turning of the rotors, they looked fine. If it isn't the pads or the rotors, what could be causing the grinding noise? A friend of mine had the same issue but his dealer told him that his vehicle "just had noisy brakes". That doesn't see to be an acceptable answer.

it also happens when i am turned a lot to the left or right, and i reverse. it sounds like a hammer hitting cement. it only happens when i turn almost all the way to the left or right...?
Here is a link to the audio [URL] .... It makes this noise, whether I'm at idle or running, granted it seems to be happen more when moving, its quite intermittent as it stops sometimes. I replaced the serpentine belt a month ago, so it can't be that. Its coming from the front of the engine. Sounds almost like the fan bearings or something below that is scraping. I've turned off the heater and it still does it, but the fan is spinning all the time, so I'm not sure what is going on.In the background you can hear cars going by on the overpass above, but I'm focused on the grinding noise. Car is not moving, its in park and makes the noise when moving also, with gas or at idle.
View 3 RepliesI have an intermittent grinding noise coming from what sounds like both front wheels, it sounds like metal on metal almost like something metal rubbing the rotor but I just put new pads on and the noise was there before as well with nothing touching the rotors but the pads. The sound will appear out of no-where at low speeds of 35 or below and will continue until I brake and slow down, just before I come to a compete stop the noise will stop with a slight clunk.
I can then drive away with no noise. I am pretty sure it is not brake related except maybe ABS somehow but was also thinking front axle or diff, also have read posts that are bearing related, but both at the same time?. It is the slight clunk before stopping that I can not figure out is related to. It is an 05 f150 xlt 5.4 super cab 4wd with 85k miles
I noticed last night that my cars turbo had a much louder whining noise when I accelerate. There is no blow off, doesn't sound like much air coming in and also there is not very much boost being put out at all. I've come to think that it may be a loose seal or gasket along the way but I'm sure hoping it isn't a pooched turbo... I don't have a boost gauge so checking boost pressure isn't an option right now. Just noticed from putting foot down but no boost.
View 1 RepliesYou ever hear hondas reverse? Its that kind of noise. Not extremely loud, but not dead quiet. I'll be in second, bring it to about 3k rpm, and let off the gas, and let it whined down in second. It makes the whining noise. then if I slowly accelerate in second, above 2.5k rpm, it will make the whine again. I don't think it does it under hard acceleration. The car has been running fine. idk what it would be, hopefully not a transmission problem, though I've read some 370z's do this too, the syncros trying to catch up? needs a trani flush? my transmission going? Not sure.
