I am having an issue with my speedo and the fuel gauge on my 2002.5 24v vr6. First it started with a speedo that would bounce and dance around. it went away then came back and so on for awhile. Then i notice the fuel gauge would go up or down and would flash that i need to fill as I would go around turns. Also the odometer doesnt work either. I know that the vss could be the cause.
View 1 RepliesJust bought my 5th Vdub an 01 Jetta Wolfsburg with 1.8T and 5 speed manual. I bought it from a local dealer and found the speedo not working. they ordered parts for it to fix that and the front end. They tried to fix it by replacing the VSS. CEL was off when I first started driving it then came on shortly and began to stutter. I haven't hooked my vag-com yet because I just got home with it a little while ago. I think it may be a loose wire because it also beeps and fuel gauge goes to empty around corners. Typical areas to look for etc???
View 13 RepliesI have about 45,000 miles in my R and all of the sudden the fuel gauge is doing funny things. It seems that when i have about 1/4 of a tank of fuel left, the gauge will bounce around from almost empty to 1/4 on perfectly flat ground. Example i get out of the car with 1/4 of tank left and 60 miles till empty.
When I come out a few hrs later. It shows 20 miles, refuel and the gauge bounces. Yesterday it did it just below 1/2 a tank. The R is going to see my local friendly Vw dealer to see if they can figure it out. A few months ago had the 40K service done and I don't think this had anything to do with it.
2012 GTI 6 Speed
Both needles bounce while maintaining a constant speed, example going 80mph in 6th, RPM moves +/-100ish RPM and speed is 1-2 MPH. The car doesn't actually move, just the gauges. Engine doesn't sound like its miss firing MPG was 30 going 80 so it seems to run just fine. Going through the gears playing around its smooth and normal.
I'm on a road trip so very limited on anything to diagnose, just looking for some insight.
I recently had my fuel pump replaced in my 2005 GTI ... twice. Both times, the fuel gauge no longer shows a full tank, and doesn't show empty tank correctly. Is there some way to reset the gauge? Is the pump somehow tied to the gauge, or did the mechanics mess the float up when they changed the pump? Sadly I had it repaired somewhere other then the dealer.

Upon stop and return to idle the dash starts to operate properly until I take my foot off the brake pedal and start to accelerate. Tried searching and didn't find anything. What are the possible causes?

I have a 2005 mk4 gli and the other morning I went out to start my car for work and all I got was crank no start. I then realized my fuel pump wasn't priming when I opened the driver door. After work I came back and checked the fuel pump fuse and swapped the relay with another I had, still nothing. A buddy of mine decided to check the connector at the fuel pump for power, using a power probe I believe he hit all or the majority of the wires with 12v of negative and/or positive power. He then unplugged the connecter and plugged it back in and the car fired right up. But I noticed that my fuel gauge, engine temp gauge, and outside air temp readout were all not functioning. I've searched and searched without being able to narrow down a solution.

View 1 RepliesGot a Vr6 a couple weeks ago and recently the gauge has been acting strange. Few days ago the gauge went from normal to showing completely empty and did that for a couple days (gauge would just display normal and occasionally just drop straight to empty and sit there until restart) but yesterday it started just sitting on full. Even when restarted just goes to full. I assume its the sender unit ....
View 2 RepliesSo last night, I went to close my car door and it just "Bounced" when I went to shut it. It did this a few times and then I got it closed. So I left it until this morning and now it won't close at all and just bounces. I believe the latch is broken. Any quick fixes to this?
View 2 RepliesRandom rough idle about every 30 seconds at low 700s (rpms) and it'll bounce up and down a little. The code was p1515 (No CEL or other lights have come on yet) which is something about the intake manifold valve and there is an air-shooting noise that is pretty loud but just sounds like air that's being lost somewhere like maybe a leak and that happens when i rev right before you can hear the engine rev the air/shooting noise occurs. I don't really think I'm losing power but I got the car recently so maybe I am and don't notice it. If this is a common leak or something with the intake manifold valve let me know,
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 prius. It has around 105k miles on it. i bought it when it had 86k. I've had 0 issues with the car other than replacing the 12v battery in the trunk and its always run like a champ. Today though, i went to start the car and it started up as normal. I left the keys in the car for a second to get out and talk to my wife.
When i happened to look in through the window though i saw that the cars fuel gauge was all of a sudden flashing. The entire bar. (when i started it originally it had 5 bars of fuel) I got back in the car to investigate and noticed that the engine had turned off. All the power was still on with no triangle of death/turtle or anything else. only the flashing fuel gauge was on. I tried restarting it multiple times to no avail. The power will come on fine, and the dash will appear as normal. The motor just will not start.
I thought it might be fuel so i went and added a gallon just in case, but still no luck. Problem usually have lights that come on or the triangle of death.
I recently had the computer upgrade recall done and I noticed I no longer get the low fuel chime and flashing last bar on the fuel gauge.
One of the writers at our dealer said it can't be the software but instead it's the fuel gauge sender.
I don't agree because the gauge seems to be working fine otherwise.
Is it software or hardware? Low Fuel Warning Failure after Reflash?
I've got an 01 that I recently bought with bad batteries. I replaced the 12V and the hv batteries, and all the codes cleared out. The gas gauge was flashing 1 bar and I got the message to add fuel. I first put 1 gallon in thinking at least the gauge should stop blinking. When it didn't, I added 2 more gallons. Still no change. After pulling the rear seat to look for the sending unit, we dropped the tank only to find that it's not replaceable!
View 4 RepliesI just picked up a 2004 1.8T 5 speed 4 motion. It drives well, however i noticed some bugs. For one, the temperature gauge seems to bounce up and down a bit. I check the vag, and the car never gets abobe 75c, and usually sits around 70c when im cruising on the highway. So i changed the green top sensor to start, and I think it may be wrong, cause now the engine fan always stays on, and the temp problem is still there. SO now I have this fan issue, and still a temp problem. Did I change the wrong sensor totally? Is it my thermostat?
View 13 RepliesI have a 97 f150 2wd 4.2. my speedo is working on and off, my overdrive button is flashing and its shifting terrible. I changed the vss in the top of the rear diff but no luck... is there another sensor I should change? or go back and start looking at the wiring to the on in the diff. she has 353k on her and was running great till this.
View 6 RepliesI have noticed when I hook-up my camper that when driving and turning on the turn signals, I get a double arrow in the speedo gauge with a number 1 between the arrows. All the lights are functional on the camper.

View 1 Replies98 accord v6, when we first got it about a year ago the temp gauge was a little erratic. Sometimes it would stay all the way down (cold) after driving for awhile. You can take your finger and thump the plastic and it would jump up to normal. At first it was only temp, but now all gauges including gas level are not working. Odometer still works right but the speedo goes to about 45 and stays there. Thumping still makes the needles bounce around.
View 10 RepliesFor a while now, my coolant temp gauge in the instrument cluster would bounce according to the bumps on the road, only when engine is fully warmed up. So I disconnected the ECT sensor to see if there's anything unusual. Nothing suspicious found, so I plugged it back in. Now my temp gauge is at "Cold" all the time. OBD reader shows normal coolant temp rise.
I shorted the ECT connector to simulate a hot condition--gauge still shows Cold. Checked the yellow/red wire against ground--5 ohm. Disconnected battery for 30 minutes--no change.
Now, it looks like I'll have to pull the instrument cluster, which is not something I want to do since I don't really have a place to work on the car, but I take this drastic measure.
Mine is a 2001, with the analog cluster.
