In the past week I have three instances where my Jetta will not start. I end up taking the Touareg. When I get home, I try the Jetta again and it starts right up. The engine is turning over but nothing happens. When I turn on the acc, I can hear the fuel pump.
View 21 Replies2 weeks ago my fans stayed on all day and killed my battery. Did a bunch of research and found that the FCM would be a possible place to start. FCM was literally in pieces under the battery. Replaced it with a new one. Still no fans. Popped open the fuse box on top of the battery. Fuse closest to the engine was blown and the plastic had started to melt. Bought a whole new one of these and replaced it. This time I read about the AC test with the car off. AC works (which is a pleasant surprise) but only the big drivers side fan works. The small passenger side fan never turns on. Turned the key off and the fan stops so that's good, I think. Ever since then my battery gets drained if it sits for so many hours.
Everything I read points to that fan going bad and becoming inoperable. But is that what is causing my battery to drain? Today I pulled the fuse nearest the engine when I got to work to see if my battery stays charged all day. Well as of right now it will not even turn over. Went out after work and it turned over 6 times but did not start. Started to jump it using my buddies car. Let it charge for 20 minutes and now it wont turn over. Have dash lights. Glow plug light is working as it should. Headlights everything works. Charged up the battery. Have 13 volts at the battery. Doesn't make a difference. Still will not turn over. Going to pull my battery tray after work and see if I can see the solenoid. Will see if I have any power there. Can I see the solenoid from the top of the car? Probably not...
Mmkay.. 2000 GTI VR6.. Will start initially, when engine is cold (sat overnight, or through the work day) but once the engine is at normal running temp, if you shut it off, it wont start. Acts like its out of gas.. have to "prime" and keep hitting the gas pedal while cranking, to (sometimes) get it to start when warm, and then it runs like crap until I get a few miles down the road.
Brand new plugs and wires, and just this evening, pulled a plug, and its obviously fouled, and covered with unburnt gas. Coil Pack maybe?
So I bought a project golf vr6, but the head and some of the components were off, I have all the parts but I just cannot figure out why it is not wanting to start, it cranks over but does not start...
View 1 RepliesToday I went to start my jetta, and there was a soft slapping/ticking coming from the engine. Drove a couple miles, stopped, and when I tried to start the car again it wouldn't go. Engine light was on but it was on before. Scanned and got codes for glow plugs #2-3.
When I turn the key the starter turns but the engine will not fire or tun over. There's diesel in the fuel lines and the timing belt is still turning, thats all i could really check with out taking anything apart. What this might be?
I have a 120k miles manual 2000 jetta vr6 12v. I was having check engine issues so i put in a reader and showed me problems at catalytic converter. I don't remember the code, and no longer have a reader...
I was told to replace the oxygen sensors in both banks as well which i did.
I opened up catalytic converter to inspect and now the car will get no spark, the engine turns, and the display shows engine stop.
I was also told to put the oxygen sensor further away with an extension cord but not sure if that plays a part.
Does the catalytic converter is causing it to not spark?
Could there be an issue with maybe a sensor at the crankshaft that checks for motion?
What the starting sequence and dependencies are or what failures I could have that prevent the spark?
I have a '99' 2.0 Golf. The engine turns over but it wont start. I bought new fuel pump and crank sensor. that still didn't fix the issues. I also am not getting any fault codes so I am really at a lost, when car died on me the engine stalled as if i missed the clutch, ever since i haven't been able to get it on, i also bought a new battery.

I went to Discount Tire today to have my tires changed. Afterwards, my car wouldn't start or even turn over. My power windows wouldn't go up or down, the dome light wouldn't come on, the power door locks wouldn't work, and the trunk latch wouldn't work.
My gas door will open using the switch.
What happened was - I walked with the service tech out to my car, handed him my key, and he got in my car. Somehow he activated the alarm and deactivated it right away. He started the car and drove to the service bay. They did the tire change. Went I went to my car, I noticed the trunk was open and the trunk light was on as well as the radio (at low volume). I turned the radio off, tried to start the car, and all the dash lights came on but the car didn't turn over. Thats when I noticed that most of the aforementioned power features wouldn't work. They tried to give me a jump start, but it wouldn't turn over. They needed the service bay so they pushed the car out (with me in it) backwards and I was told to pop it into reverse to roll start it. That worked. I still could not operate any of the power features previously mentioned. When I got home I shut the car off and tried starting it again - no go.
So now I have a dead car with power features that wont work. I have a scanner tool and I'm going to scan for fault codes, but would like some input. The scanner is not a Rosstech.
Okay so my 2003 Jetta GLI normally starts without a problem. But it seems like whenever it gets cold (below about 40) it doesn't even try to start. I turn the key and nothing happens, the engine doesn't crank. All the lights turn on like normal and they're not dim so I don't think it's the battery. It'll still start if I roll-start it, but there isn't any sort of hill for a few miles. Normally once it warms up later in the day it'll start up.

View 2 RepliesMy car Mk4 Gti has not been starting recently, showing all the symptoms of a dead battery. When I try to start it clicks or sometimes if there's more juice the engine attempts to turn over once or twice.
The weird thing is this started happening in conjunction with my monsoon head unit randomly dying. The radio was dead for a while and my battery would randomly die. Then I fixed the radio by reseating the fuse on the back and the problem went away.
Just today I started my car and everything was fine sitting in my driveway. Then I noticed that the battery light was on, and then my head unit died. I turned my car off to try and fix the radio issue and then it wouldn't start back up. Not sure what the issue is.....
My mk4 sat for a while and upon starting up was misfiring. I checked for pvc leaks and didn't see anything but went ahead and cleaned my maf sensor and decided to pull my coils. Cylinder 1 had oil on the tip and around the spark plug which to me spelled out a bad valve cover gasket. I got all the parts to do the inner and outer gaskets and replace the coil and spark plug, however we got a snowstorm and my luck a rabbit got in and ate the wiring on one of my fuel injector connectors.
So went ahead and put on the new gasket, replaced the coil and plug and bought a new Fuel Injector Connector and spliced in onto the Injector "Pigtail'. I double checked everything was reattached properly and let the gasket sealant dry for 24 hours. I went to start it tonight and after trying to turnover it completely cuts out, wont even start up. I'm extremely frustrated at this point and am thinking the rabbit must have gotten to something else unless I did something wrong in the process of repairing.
So, after driving my car around for maybe an hour without any warning lights, I turned my car off. I tried to turn it on 15 minutes later when it turned over twice, sounding much louder than usual, then nothing. Tried again and just a single click. So I fear the worst and check the oil which is low but still on the stick and the coolant is fine too. I thought maybe the battery was dead so I tried a jump and that won't turn the engine over either. I put a charged battery from another car in and nada. I tried turning cam gear and also the flywheel pulley with a cheater bar and it doesn't want to move. I'm totally screwed right? That same morning I fiddled with the purge valves for the evap system because of a trouble code which O got to disappear. The engine also sounded funny for like 2 days only during ignition. By funny, it seemed to be louder than normal but no horrible metallic sounds or anything. Is it possible for it just to seize like that for no apparent reason?
View 15 RepliesMy 01 Jetta 2.0 started having issues a few days ago. The engine would crank, but wouldn't start. Wait a few minutes and it would start right up. I go to start it the next day and it would crank, but not start at all. I pulled the P0322 code and replaced the crankshaft sensor along with a new fuel pump, and spark plugs just to be safe.
Next, I checked for fuel and spark, which I have both. The car still won't start and seems to lose a charge on the battery pretty quick. At this point, there are no codes showing up. Could the engine be flooded from trying to start it so much?
Yesterday , my feed fuel line was dry rotting and leaking gas so I bought 516 fuel injection hose and replaced them. Pulled fuse 28 , started the car and let it die to release pressure , fixed the hoses and put the fuse back in and now it just cranks forever. I have spark , and I'm getting fuel just not sure if it's adequate pressure. When I open the door the pump did sound a little funny when it primed. I'm gonna pull it out and check it later but right now I'm completely stumped. I did this last night around 8pm and it's 4:30 am the next morning and still not start.
View 6 RepliesI'm not sure if this qualifies for a "cold start" but my 1.8T sounds imperfect when I start it for the first time of the day. It'll rev around 1200 RPM, instead of the normal 800RPM idle if I start it after it had recently been turned off for a short period.
It sounds almost like my old car that had an exhaust leak, but not as obnoxious. When it settles back down to 800RPM it really purrs and sounds great. Is this normal?
2003 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T, not sure if I wrote that in my profile yet. 41k miles and recently serviced for 40k milage. Has sounded this way before and after the service.
So my ABS light turned on along with my MIL about a week ago. Figured the ABS module is done.
Today I turned on the car and now my MIL doesn't light up. Pressed the ASR switch (normally lights up MIL) and nothing. I went as far and unplugging the battery for a few minutes and even unplugging the MAF to see if it will light up.
Nothing. I highly doubt the light in the cluster is done.
I have a 2008 MK4 2.0 with only 53,000kms. At 40,000Kms I put new OEM spark plugs.
Just recently, every morning when I start the engine is sputtering and rough running. The engines want to die but I give a little gas, and run rough like it is only firing on two or three cylinders.
When it gets to the normal operating coolant temperature it runs without any problem and I can use the AC. Its only give me this problem on the first start of the day.
Does not have any MIL light on the instrument panel. I scan it with VCDS-Lite and do not found any fault codes. The only thing that's come to my mind is to change the Green Coolant Sensor.
I have a problem with that, when i'm in a low height with my car, i turn right and the hole car vibrates, like rubbing in the axle, its no heating the frame, both sides are new, i change because of that, check everything, also change engine mount, top mounts are camber plates, running bags over coil, and all suspension its new. only part thats original are the front bearings, can be the bearings?
View 17 RepliesThe dealer diagnosed my a/c as needing a new compressor and clutch. I had an a/c specialty shop install a remanufactured compressor and clutch. however, they could not get the compressor to kick on. I checked all fuses (all are good).
I checked the compressor continuity (good, 0 ohms). I checked the plug where the compressor clutch plugs in (it reads 12 volts). the funny thing is, it reads 12 volts anytime the engine is running (even if the climatroinc is turned off). I am definitely not an a/c expert and really don't know how this stuff works.
