I seem to have a problem with my jetta. It's the 1.8t. When I turn the turn signal on, I can see the dash and headlights dim. Also when I tried putting both windows up at the same time, the car seemed to short out and almost shut off. It reset the time and trip mileage when it did so.

I bought a 2005 Jetta GLI a couple of months ago and from the first day I noticed that occasionally when I would lock it with the alarm, the right turn signal would stay on. It was not much of a problem as I would just press the lock on the remote again a couple of times to turn it off. Lately it has become more frequent and annoying. I have to wait up to an hour so I can finally turn it off through the remote. I was thinking the relay probably.
View 15 RepliesHad an issue arise today where out of the blue my turn signal decided to turn on and stay on... and i do not mean it was blinking as if i was going to turn i mean solid on, no clue what caused the issue, the stalk is still in the middle position, and when i turn the other side on (passenger/right) it blinks normally, now if I turn the hazards on they both come on and stay on solid, this problem does not even stop when i pull the key out of the ignition, I have to remove the negative battery strap for it to turn off completely.
View 3 RepliesSo my turn signal stalk doesn't go back to neutral after a turn.. also, I don't hear the usually " clicking when turning the wheel that you hear when it goes far enough to re-set itself. What controls this action? Its not the clock spring thing commonly referenced to the airbag airbag is it?
View 2 RepliesIm switching out the bulbs on the front turn signal light today, I reach my fat little fingers in there and can barely pull off the wire harness that goes into the back of it. When I did this the wire coverings on all three wires just disintegrated I would guess from the heat inside the headlight. Wel there's a short from where they are touching and my signals don't work at all. my question is I can hardly even reach my fingers down in there too remove that wiring harness ( which is the shortest wire ive ever seen) is it necessary for me to remove the grill the front bumper and each headlight in order to access the wires better?
View 5 RepliesDriving home the other day my right turn signal stopped working. Checked all lights when I got home and the front signal had a constant but low illumination and all the other lights were mostly out as well, very little was working actually.
Pulled the bumper and head lamp tonight. The plastic connector on the low beam was melted and the wires were burnt. The problem was the two brown wires that are sort of routed together. Third wire (grey or another shade of brown depending on headlight manufacturer) was OK.
Headlights are aftermarket, Volx Tuning, < 1 yr old. The rest of the harness inside the assembly looks good- certainly don't see any opportunities for a short.
I replaced the connector and bad section of wire and plugged it back in for a test. All lights were then 100% operational. I removed the assembly to find that the same lamp was smoking again. (I sort of expected this, but had to try.)
Clearly I've got a short somewhere but where do I start? The part of the vehicle's wiring harness that is visible behind the assembly is in good condition. The lamp itself (H7 I believe?) appears OK as well, I don't guess I get so so lucky as to hear those can develop an internal short in the base or something?
05' TDI Jetta. The headlights will not turn on. The DRL's will work. I changed the dimmer switch, and put in a Euro switch to try and fix it. But the only thing I get when I turn on the headlights are the running lights. All the running lights and interior (dash) lights work fine. I checked the fuses and pulled the 173 relay (to kill the DRL's).

View 6 RepliesMy Jetta has had an off-and-on clicky turn signal sound without turn signals or hazard lights actually blinking. I put up with it for a while, but recently it's been more clicky than not. I'm aware this is a common problem. I had already tried the cleaner spray "trick" which made the problem worse if anything. Today, I removed my signal stalk as described here and gave it a cleaning. After re-assembling, the clicky problem didn't go away, and now the high beams are always on (even with the key out of the ignition, and the car isn't running). I temporarily dealt with this by pulling fuses 18 and 19 for high beams. It's an ok short-term workaround. Low beams still work fine.
I'm considering replacing the hazard signal relay, but a while ago I messed up while trying to use ghetto removal keys to pull my radio.
I'm having a weird issue with my passenger side turn signal light. It's more of an annoyance than an actual problem. When I turn on my headlights both yellow turn signal lights also usually turn on but the passenger side one is not turning on anymore. The odd thing is that it still blinks as normal when I engage the turn signal. I replaced the bulb but it did not resolve the issue. I'm thinking it's an electrical short somewhere. It's not the wiring in the headlight housing because I tried an old housing I kept when I replaced my headlights last year and I still had the same issue. What I should check first?
View 1 RepliesGot in the car this morning and my headlights,windshield wipers, and turn signals would all not turn on or work.
I'm not sure if the this is a problem with the stalks on the steering column or possibly a relay.
When i pull the left stalk my high beams will come on but only when i do that.
The windshield wipers would not turn on at all and the windshield wash would not even spray as well.
I also noticed that my AC/Heat controls wouldnt respond either. Any clue as to what it might be.
I just got a 2003 1.8T Passat about a week ago. I have already installed a new HU and put some subs in it. I haven't really had the chance to test the headlights while driving because I haven't driven after dark since I got the car. When I used the headlights today some strange things were happening.
When the headlights are turned on the right signal comes on and stays on until the headlights are turned off and doesn't pulse. If I try to use the right signal while it is stuck on it makes the indicator clicking noise once then the noise stops but the light stays solid the whole time.
If the headlights are off and I try use the right signal the signal works fine but the instrument lighting pulses with the signal and I assume I haven't noticed this because driven only in the light I probably just never noticed.
The left signal behaves completely as it should as far as I know in all conditions. The hazard lights are also behaving oddly but I'm thinking it's because of the problem with the right signal.

When the headlights are on the left turn signal stays on(but does not blink). The right turn signal functions ok. With the headlights off both signals function normally. The headlights work correctly.
This issue happened once a year ago but just started reoccurring two days ago.
I am having an electrical problem with my front right turn signal I have not been able to chase down.
The symptoms are when the headlights are on, either manually or automatically from the daylight sensor, the front right turn signal will not flash, and I get the double speed clicking as if there were a burned out bulb. However, when it is daylight out and the headlights are in daytime running light mode, the turn signal works fine, 95% of the time. Occasionally when the headlights are off the turn signal will not work either.
I have replaced the headlights casing and bulbs, and tried rebuilding the pig tail harness as well.
I have a 2012 limited last night while driving when I would turn my turn signal on the headlights would flash off and back on. I tried it a few more times and it did this quite a bit. I do have HID lights which I have had for about a year now but never had an issue before.

I also have an ALLDATA DIY subscription on this vehicle, but I could not find any instance of this occurring to be able to troubleshoot. I though that there might have been a light out somewhere.
View 2 RepliesI got my headlights swapped but the turn signal sockets can't go into the housings. The old bulb socket thing is a 90 degree twist in and it would twist in if there was room for the socket to twist. The back of the housing has a blocky lumpy thing in the way and I need a straight in socket I guess.
View 14 RepliesI have a 02 golf and it runs great other then the reoccurring problem i have been experiencing. The problem doesn't happen every time i drive my car, but often. When i drive for a short period of time and i park and go to turn the car off, all the lights on the dash flash on and off, and most of my things restart. Some times i will stop at a stop light or sign and the car will just restart and turn off. I know this maybe something very small.

But when i turn the knob off the auto headlights turn on. Any insight on this? when i first got the car everything was working fine. It only started to happen after I replaced the radiator.
View 6 RepliesSo, the alternator in my 2000 Mitz Galant just went out and my dad and I changed it, now when I drive my car sometimes the brake and battery lights come on while I'm driving and come on and blink with my turn signals (both of them). It is an intermittent problem, and I took it to Advanced and they said everything looked fine. what's wrong with my car?
