Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Code P0170 Pop Up When Cruise Around 30 To 40 Mph
Dec 2, 2015
I am plagued with p0170. Since it started getting the code I have Cleaned maf sensor that was on car (didn't work).
Replaced maf sensor with cheap generic replacement (didn't work).
Thinking it was just a cheap maf I bought a not cheap oem one (didn't work )
Replaced front o2 sensor (didn't work)
Tested intake track for leaks. (No leaks ) boost gauge also reads 25 in hg which also means no major leaks from what I read Tested fuel pressure, and it was perfect.
Changed spark plugs to nkg coppers gapped at .28 (I have a stage 2 ecu but am currently using stock one until issues resolved )
Only think I have not replaced are the spark plug coils and the map sensor.
I also plan on getting a after market wideband o2 sensor so I can see what's going on.
It also seems to pop up when I cruise around 30-40mph. I have taken the car for long drives after clearing codes on high ways amd high speed roads going 45+ and the code won't pop then. Only seems to at lower speeds .

I just bought a 2016 F250 with the diesel and thought I'd share an early ownership experience. At about the 1300 mile mark the check engine light came on and other than the remote start not working the truck continued to run great. I pulled a P0170 code, Fuel Trim Bank 1. And since the truck was still running fine, I considered clearing the code and see if it would come back. But since it's under warranty I decided to bring it to the dealer. They checked it out and diagnosed a bad Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor. They swapped it out and it seems to be good to go (no more light). While I was in there I asked them to turn on the DPF percentage full screen which they did.

Drove the truck to the store tonight about 5 minutes away and everything seemed fine. Went to leave the parking lot and noticed the check engine light was on. Pulled out my tablet, dongle and fired up Torque Pro. Retrieved error code P0170. Truck has a little over 12,700 miles and is complete stock. I ran a search and didn't come up with much info on this code other than what Just Stroken posted in another post.

When I am done accelerating and let off the gas and just cruise, i am getting a decently loud noise, enough so that you want to keep your foot on the accelerator a bit because under acceleration there is no noise. No noise at idle either. It's like downshifting to a lower gear at a higher rpm and how the engine noise is loud...but I think it's the tranny or something.
My mechanic (who is amazing) thinks it is the dual mass flywheel.
It is a 2004.5 GLI 6spd with 122,000 miles on the original clutch.

The cruise worked perfect before I lowered the car and now it works occasionally.. It was on most of the 10 hour drive to this part of Florida and around town it's worked but has started to act up a bit again now.. Sometimes the cruise light will flash and then won't work but other times it's fine any input? The car is an otherwise stock AWP at 107k miles..

I had a motor go bad, overheated, replaced it with another motor. Got it all back together and upon test drive I am having a low rpm (below 3k) bad hesitation/misfire. The engine runs just fine at wide open throttle.
First thing i checked for were plug wires and vacuum leaks. The only difference between the old block and the new block is the fact that i replaced the MAF with a new one, as i was getting a maf code on the old engine. I can't get it to throw a code...

I was driving today and my cruise control light came on and wouldn't turn off. i vagcom'd the car and a code came up which was:
Cruise control switch (E45): Implausable signal
P1569 - 35 - 10 ---- Intermittent
I tried clearing it but it would but the light remains on. I noticed that when i hit the RES button on the stalk, the light goes away and when that when I scanned the car and held the RES button the code would come back. My cruise control also stopped working.

03 Jetta. The cruise has not been working. Turning cruise on and off works fine as light comes on on dash. Brake pedal switch was replace about a year ago, and I don't think that is the problem because when this was the car would actually go into limp mode.
Just checked the clutch pedal switch by jumping the plug (This was the blue switch lower on the pedal), and still no cruise function. I'm really leaning toward it being the "set" switch/button on the steering wheel as this just feels kinda broken. Did I test the clutch pedal switch correctly? Any other reason the cruise would stop working?

I am proud new owner of a 03 Mk4 Bora GLI. I have some issues that I could use a hand with. My symptoms are as follows:
1. Speedometer stopped working.
2. Fuel gauge goes on the fritz (rapidly declines) when parked on an incline or going around corners.
3. Cruise control does not work. "Cruise" light come on the dash but the set/reset button on the stalk does nothing.
Note: All fuses are in tact.

During the tedious removal of the airbag from my mk4 multifunction steering wheel, I managed to rip the cruise control buttons wires out of their harness. I am honestly bewildered by the descriptions I've found online, and just want a photo of which colored wires should go in which holes XD.

I picked up a 03 Jetta TDI about a month ago to use as a daily driver so I could park my Jeep. This is my first diesel so still getting used to some of the quirks and what is normal and what is not.
First problem is a CEL with the code P0401 - Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected. Now there seems to be a lot of information online about this and how to fix it and everything has something different to say. I live in a cold climate, its already -2 and going to get to -20 - -30 at some points so I'm not looking to to a EGR delete as my understanding is that it takes longer to heat up?
Next, being my first diesel, I'm used to turning heat on and driving for a minute and having heat. Not so much in the Jetta. It can idle for 20 minutes before I head out the door and its throwing warm air but the engine temp is a dead 0. Not until I get on the highway and drive for another 15 min do I actually start getting close to operating temp. Being its only about 0 celsius at the moment...
Other trouble spot is the steering, considering this thing weights next to nothing and has tiny wheels, it is about 4x harder to turn the wheel then it is in the Jeep on 35's. I also seem to get this shrieking/whining from the engine bay about 5-10% of the time when moving the steering wheel and the vehicle is under 5 km/h.

just bought an mk4 1.8 jetta and so I love it, however I'm having a couple issues. I've got a cel for code p0010 something about the camshaft position sensor. I changed the sensor with a new one and the problem is still there. I've got pretty much full power but no turbo spool and my boost gauge tops out at 5-6 psi.

Yesterday I went to star my 2.0 Jetta and it instantly starting sputtering at idle. After maybe a minute of sputtering the car died. Tried restarting it and it would instantly die after starting. Car threw code P0300: Random Misfire.
As of today the car now runs again with no problems. No codes. I didn't touch a thing and it seems to have resolved itself.
The entire engine bay was wet from condensation due to temperature change. Is there any way this could've contributed to the misfiring? I'm thinking the spark plug wires might have gotten wet and that was causing the misfire.

My 20th is throwing up P0237. It runs fine and everything but this code wont go away. I have tried erasing with no success. I am assuming the MAP sensor is done for?

I've recently had some problems with my 2000 Jetta VR6, so in the past couple months I've replaced the alternator and the coolant flange/thermostat housing. I bring this up because right after i finished fixing the coolant leak, i got a check engine light. I had screwed up, though, and switched 2 of the spark plugs when i was putting things back together and I assumed that was what caused the CEL to turn on. I put the spark plugs back in the right place after a minute or 2 of confusion... but the light has stayed on for about the past month. Got it to turn off by unplugging the battery for a bit, but it came back on after a couple minutes at idle. Took it to Autozone... and the P1116 code that pops up says "O2 sensor heater circuit open bank1 sensor 1." I feel like it was probably something that I have done to cause this problem, not actually just a part I need to replace based on the timing of the CEL.

My check engine light went on, and when I scanned my car it gave me the code P1424. I don't know what seems to be the problem?

P1128. Have had the code over and over!! No vacuum leaks and I've been through 2 MAFs. I've cleaned the throttle body, changed intake manifold gasket, changed plugs and wires, and put a new air filter in.
The code comes back every few months or so and the car becomes undriveable. Last changed my MAF back in December and the code is back already. What am I missing?

I have a 2002 Jetta 1.8t. My check engine light came on and it gave me the code P0135 sensor heater circuit. Bank 1 Sensor 1. We bought a new 02 sensor and replaced it. We definitely bought the right one too. Cleared the codes. After a little driving the CEL came back on with the same code P0135.

So finally got past the smog cert issue and a bad map sensor in the intercooler. However, during the smog test, I was informed I am getting low air pressure in the intake! What causes this? A bad MAF? a leak? I have replaced the EGR, and all rubber that connects hard pipes. The only piece not changed out during the rebuild is the plastic flex line from the airfilter box to the turbo intake.

I have a 2005 Jetta 2.0 BEV GLS. I got a code P0302 for misfire on cylinder 2. I am pretty sure it's the Ignition coil. I live in Canada and my autoparts store only has BWD brand. I have read this is a crappy brand.
