its possible to repair? or only a new one it's the solution? cause my gti 1.8t it's making a sound like tssshhh when i turn the steering wheel. I change the power steering rack.
View 2 RepliesOk a week ago i noticed a popping noise when i would turn my steering wheel while the car was parked. It sounded and felt like it was coming from the drivers side.
Now a week later i have a weird constant whirring/growling noise coming from the drivers side wheel area. Which only stops when I stop completely or take a right hand turn.
So I think its a wheel bearing due to the fact it stops when I turn right, but thats why im here im not totally sure.
I have a 03 1.8t jetta if i turn the steering wheel all the way to either side a epc light comes on and cuts power a lot what could this be....

What could be causing it? cause im doing my year end "maintenance" (if its worn/almost broke, perfect excuse to buy upgrades) ...
My control arms are brand new with r32 bushings as are my 034strut mounts/bearings. I checked my steering fluid level and its good.

I have a 2000 MK4 Jetta GLS that's had a clicking noise in one spot whenever I rock the steering wheel left-to-right or right-to-left. It's noticeable while stopped or at low-speed and seems to be in one particular "sweet spot." I've had the tie rod ends changed, with no improvement. It seems obvious that it's some kind of linkage or joint that's worn out, but I'm just not familiar enough with the steering system on these cars to know where to look. I thought maybe a bad CV joint, but they usually click when the wheels are turning, not when the steering wheel is being rotated, and they don't usually go on clicking for a year without wearing out.
View 3 RepliesEvery day I make a u-turn around the median in order to get to our driveway...which means I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. As I turn the wheel and drive, there is a clannnngKK sound on the driver's side from somewhere near the front. I wondered if there is something getting hung up/caught "under there" but have no real working knowledge (obviously) of my truck's anatomy. It only makes this noise when I make this u turn. I've not heard it any other time.
View 1 RepliesOften when I am turning the steering wheel, even a little it now seems, I hear a whooshing/rubbing sound and feel just a little bit of that rubbing. It feels/sounds like it's coming from the housing right behind the wheel itself, maybe where the shaft bearing is. Is this normal?
View 9 RepliesFor the last few months, I have been chasing down steering problems. Alignment, end links, ball joints... and now, humming. Every time I take a turn that requires more than 1/4 turn of the steering wheel, the car hums. It wasn't very noticeable at first, but over the last week it has gotten much louder.
I have topped off my PS fluid and replaced my belts, but this has not solved the issue. Before I start replacing a pump and/or a steering rack.
I picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry 'SE Automatic with almost 18,000 miles - that's right, low mileage. This week the steering wheel started making squeaky noises when I turn it. It doesn't matter which way I turn, it will squeak and it doesn't happen all the time. Should I be worried and what can I do about it?
NOTE: This started happening the day after we had got an 1 or 2 of snow. That morning when I opened the door to get the brush/scraper and little snow fell in the driver's side of the car. Perhaps a little fell on the steering wheel.
The steering on my truck has become a little heavy after making a turn and bringing the steering wheel back to center. The steering feels heavy like I had a front tire half way down. There's a lot of drag then once on center it's gone. Could it be the beginning of the end for my ball joints?

View 11 RepliesI have a bad wheel bearing but on the highway my steering wheel shakes. It is only on the highway not down residential streets. I'm pretty sure it is the driver's side wheel bearing. I already balanced my wheels and everything.
View 5 RepliesMy 2001 Jetta 2.0L steering wheel vibrates at about 60+ mph and when I turn the steering wheel to the right into a turn, the vibration intensifies. I've changed and rotated my tires, but to no avail, the problem persists. I have yet to take this problem to a mechanic until I've found out what the issue actually is, as I do not want to get jerked around. I've looked around on various VW blogs, and from what I can gather, the CV joint needs to be replaced/repaired.
View 3 RepliesI just purchased a 2004 Golf 2.0 for my daughter. The car seems to be in good shape but it does have a few problems being used and 153k miles on it.
1 - a/c switch doesn't light up and the blower does not come on. No airflow thru the vents at all. I Googled this and it sounds like blower motor and/or resistor?
2 - when using key remote to lock doors the right side marker light sometimes stays on. I have to hit the lock/unlock 4-5 times for it to go out. Is this short?
3- Front left wheel bearing was replaced but the previous owner just did that one side. The front is making noise so I plan to do the right ASAP.
Anything else I should be watching for?
I had an 85 Golf - one of my favorite cars, bought this in the hopes this one would be as good to my daughter.
I've noticed a couple times when I turn on my car with it just sitting there if i turn the steering wheel all the way to one direction i get some sort of screeching sound coming from the driver side front wheel area what could it be and if i were to turn it the other way all the way too. I'll get the sound too what could this be.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport (128,000 miles) that has a groaning sound when ever you turn the steering wheel (and front wheels, of course). We were told by the former owner that it was the front wheel u-joints. I do not think that is the problem since it makes the sound when the Jeep is not moving forward or reverse. Is it typical for the u-joints or spindle joint (ball joints?) to make noise when they get older?
It makes a similar sound when I stand in front of it and try to push it up and down. When that happens, the car is not running and the wheels are stationary in all respects.
I found out that the bearing in the compressor clutch is the one making my car sound like crap... but I have been looking for it and everywhere I call they only sell the whole compressor that is expensive. I was thinking on get the clutch out and lube the bearing up or something but I don't know if I have to discharge the freon for doing it ... How to remove the AC clutch ?? Its an mk4 btw....
