Golf IV / Jetta IV :: CEL Comes On - Engine Code P1424?
Jul 17, 2014
My check engine light went on, and when I scanned my car it gave me the code P1424. I don't know what seems to be the problem?

View 2 RepliesSecondary air injection system leak detected-Bank 1 & 2... 2003 miles on my car and the CEL pops on this morning. VCV bodies are being replaced tomorrow. The tech didn't fully understand what parameters to test for or what conditions would be present to set this code, I can't say that I do either... the flapper could possibly play a role in this..?

View 1 RepliesI was cruising down the highway and my check engine light came on. I was a few minutes from a auto store and they said my code was p1296. I found out it is either the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. I wanna know where it is located in the engine bay. I have a 02 VW Jetta 1.8T.
View 1 RepliesMK4 GTi - My check engine light came on a few days ago and when I checked it, it pulled code P0420.
Just this morning, the check engine light went away.
Is this a common issue? Or should I go get it checked just in case?
I have a 2000 VW Jetta 2.0l AEG engine with 190,000 miles and check engine code P0303 for the 2nd time in 3 months. I had this same code 3 months and 3000 miles ago and found the spark plug #3 to be fouled up. All other plugs and wires seemed to be okay so I replaced plug #3 and the problem went away. I suppose after I take off the upper intake manifold I am going to find the same plug #3 to be fouled up again. The engine is a typical AEG that I have to add 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles as it has been burning the same amount of oil since I acquired the car at 135,000 miles. I have read that the wrong piston rings were installed from the factory on a large number of these engines and VW says that if less than 1 quart of oil is burned after 7500 miles it is normal. I really don't feel like spending 2 hours every 3000 miles to replace plug #3 ? It might be time to part ways with my 2nd VW. As a side note, this car has been averaging 35.5 mpg over the last 55,000 miles that includes 50% city/ 50% highway driving. I coast to red lights and don't accelerate quickly with the 5 speed manual transmission to achieve hybrid like fuel efficiency.
View 1 RepliesJust installed a short Ram intake on my 2000 Vw Jetta 1.8t. Had the Intake for about 250 miles and now the check engine light came on. Just pulled the code p0411 secondary air injection system incorrect flow detected. Is this just cause there is more air going through the MAF sensor?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2000 jetta 1.8t. Check engine light recently came on and the code is a PO1128. I replaced the maf sensor and that did nothing but make the car run worse. I've check for vacuum leaks and found a busted line at the egr valve, fixed the line, reset the code only to have the check engine light come back on with the same code. I am at a loss now.
View 3 RepliesMy 01 Jetta 2.0 started having issues a few days ago. The engine would crank, but wouldn't start. Wait a few minutes and it would start right up. I go to start it the next day and it would crank, but not start at all. I pulled the P0322 code and replaced the crankshaft sensor along with a new fuel pump, and spark plugs just to be safe.
Next, I checked for fuel and spark, which I have both. The car still won't start and seems to lose a charge on the battery pretty quick. At this point, there are no codes showing up. Could the engine be flooded from trying to start it so much?
P0171 system to lean.
I already replaced the MAF so what else could it be I cleared it once and the cel came right back on. I have a stasight pipe from the catback on my car and the cabin started smelling like burning plastic and eggs every time I accelerate. I'm going on a road trip tom and was wondering if I'll be fine. The car has a bit more noise coming from the engine the usual more like a swiping tapping noise
I just got a 2001 VW Jetta. I got it with the Check Engine light on. Went to my local AutoZone to get a OBDII reading, got codes P0343 & P0321. P0343 Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit High Input B1. P0321 Ignition/Distributer Engine Speed Input Circuit Range/Performance. So for P0343 I got the Camshaft Position Sensor for $70 and for P0321 got Crankshaft or Speed Position Sensor for $110 ( FYI, Crankshaft Position Sensor & Speed Sensor are the same ). Paid $160 to get both sensors replaced. I know both sensors are easy to replace but it was easier to pay..
View 3 RepliesI've been having an issue with my car and the check engine light is on.
The code reads : P0030
Heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 1
heater control circuit
2001 VW GTI VR6 ....
I bought my Jetta almost a year ago, and I've been constantly replacing parts. Unfortunately, my engine misfired twice and the CEL has come on for P0420 which is inefficient catalyst. This is the only code being thrown. I've cleared it like 10 times, but it keeps popping up.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2005 1.8 TJetta GLI owned for about 2 months now. Gas cap warning pops up then goes away when I turn off the car then check engine light comes on. I've change the gas cap to new oem one changed the purge valve [URL] .... After a couple of weeks same issues again brought it to my mechanic he ran a leak detector and told me that there are Evap leaks. I read somewhere that I might need a need charcoal canister and a fuel tank.
View 12 RepliesCheck engine light is driving me crazy, comes and go depending on weather conditions.
When "ON" the code I get is P0441 and P0171. The engine hesitates for a second or two, then stabilizes.
Bought a Mk4 1.8T gti last year had only about 75,000 on it and drove it for about 10,000 miles. The check engine light went on about 2 months ago and the code read 3rd gear incorrect ratio. It still rode fine until about a week ago when it started slipping. Brought it to the local transmission guys in my town and got a quote at about $3,000-$3,500 to have the transmission rebuilt. The transmission is a tiptronic automatic 6-speed.
View 1 RepliesAfter running to operating temp, if the car is turned off then restarted (like you would at a gas station, which is where I notice this) the engine will turn and turn and turn but not fire. I have noticed that stomping on the acceleration will cough it into life during this procedure. This doesn't happen every time and I have recently run high octane gas during a long distance trip.
106K miles...
Recent p0441 fault codes and gas cap warning light...
No other problems or codes...
I have a 2002 Jetta 1.8t. My check engine light came on and it gave me the code P0135 sensor heater circuit. Bank 1 Sensor 1. We bought a new 02 sensor and replaced it. We definitely bought the right one too. Cleared the codes. After a little driving the CEL came back on with the same code P0135. What is wrong and how I can fix this?
View 6 RepliesI picked up a 03 Jetta TDI about a month ago to use as a daily driver so I could park my Jeep. This is my first diesel so still getting used to some of the quirks and what is normal and what is not.
First problem is a CEL with the code P0401 - Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected. Now there seems to be a lot of information online about this and how to fix it and everything has something different to say. I live in a cold climate, its already -2 and going to get to -20 - -30 at some points so I'm not looking to to a EGR delete as my understanding is that it takes longer to heat up?
Next, being my first diesel, I'm used to turning heat on and driving for a minute and having heat. Not so much in the Jetta. It can idle for 20 minutes before I head out the door and its throwing warm air but the engine temp is a dead 0. Not until I get on the highway and drive for another 15 min do I actually start getting close to operating temp. Being its only about 0 celsius at the moment...
Other trouble spot is the steering, considering this thing weights next to nothing and has tiny wheels, it is about 4x harder to turn the wheel then it is in the Jeep on 35's. I also seem to get this shrieking/whining from the engine bay about 5-10% of the time when moving the steering wheel and the vehicle is under 5 km/h.
just bought an mk4 1.8 jetta and so I love it, however I'm having a couple issues. I've got a cel for code p0010 something about the camshaft position sensor. I changed the sensor with a new one and the problem is still there. I've got pretty much full power but no turbo spool and my boost gauge tops out at 5-6 psi.
View 5 RepliesYesterday I went to star my 2.0 Jetta and it instantly starting sputtering at idle. After maybe a minute of sputtering the car died. Tried restarting it and it would instantly die after starting. Car threw code P0300: Random Misfire.
As of today the car now runs again with no problems. No codes. I didn't touch a thing and it seems to have resolved itself.
The entire engine bay was wet from condensation due to temperature change. Is there any way this could've contributed to the misfiring? I'm thinking the spark plug wires might have gotten wet and that was causing the misfire.
