Had the 2003 Jetta in for inspection, and he said the rear brake caliper was gone. SO he replaced it.
Now in the morning when I leave for work, as I go up my steep driveway, the brake warning light comes on and beeps at me. Then it stops.
On the way home, as I come up the steep road to my driveway, the warning light comes on and beeps at me!
All other times and all other driving, it's fine.
My brake fluid is fine and fuses 5 & 9 are good. Brake lever is all the way down as well. Have read that for some simply replacing the cap worked. Car is a 2000 w/170K. BTW, A/C does not work, clutch not spinning, fuses ok there as well. I've made sure a/c button is not on nor is recirc button. Some have said probe can be related to this but that also can show up with a bad fuse # 5, but mine is good.
View 5 RepliesI started the car one morning after it snowed. the red "BRAKE" light is constantly on and while the car is moving it beeps which is extremely annoying.. I have tried:
-Topping off brake fluid
- another ebrake sensor (under the center console)
- brake pads have plenty of meat on them
- brake light are working
I thought I noticed this a few days back but figured it was my imagination... However, I confirmed it tonight... When coming home and going down my rather steep driveway, I noticed the third brake light blinking. It actually seemed rather consistent... I backed up the driveway, went back out for a minute and didn't notice anything, but then noticed it once again when going down our hill.
First and foremost, would this be covered under the say bumper-to-bumper warranty? I'm assuming it's a fault in the brake light switch. It seems to not be quite as bad the harder I brake.
Second, I seem to recall some kinds of brake switch issues... I know I've also had some TCS light issues (TCS OFF lit just today) but I always figured it was from my rather aggressive driving habits. Could this be related to a faulty switch?
I drive a 2000 VW Golf with 148K miles on it. One Saturday this summer my brake indicator light started lighting and beeping intermittently as I was driving. My brakes were operating fine so I did not read my owners manual until I reached my home. It indicated that I needed to have a qualified mechanic check it immediately but as it was almost 4 o'clock in the afternoon I couldn't find a mechanic in any gas station or garage. As I had a 200 mile drive to do the next day, I purchased brake fluid and carefully followed all of the directions for checking and filling my brake fluid.
However, when I took the cap off of the reservoir, the reservoir really looked fine and I was only able to add about a teaspoon max of brake fluid. However, when I tried driving the car, it seemed that the problem was solved as the brake indicator light did not come on again. Approximately 3 months later now the brake indicator light is intermittently going on again: about every other day. It goes on and then shortly after it goes off and then it doesn't come on again for a day or two.
Inasmuch as I added such a small amount of brake fluid last time I'm really not sure that the problem is actually with the fluid. I wondered if perhaps it was more of a vacuum problem or that by opening the reservoir some air escaped or something of that nature. I also wonder if possibly there's a component that's giving a false reading. At any rate, I'm a little white-haired old lady and there's a limit to what I can do on my car myself and I'm also a target whenever I go into a shop to get the most expensive diagnosis and fix. I'd like to go in to a shop with good information so that it doesn't become an expensive fishing expedition. What could be causing this?
I have a 2013 Prius-III. I have a steep driveway, about 250 years long. At the bottom of the driveway, just before entering the roadway, a few times the vehicle shifts into Neutral. At first I thought I was hitting the shifter or a bump was causing the shift, but since it now has happened multiple times, I know it is not my touching the shifter, but I am not sure what else could cause this behavior.
View 13 RepliesOur 2008 Rav4 (4 cylinder) has on more than one occasion come up with a loud clunking sound when backing up our steep (~ 20% grade) driveway. It feels like it has popped out of gear or even into a forward gear. The first time it happened (a couple of months ago) it was taken directly to the dealer who found nothing. It happened again today - on two attempts to back up the driveway. If the phenomenon correlates with anything, it's higher air temperatures and after a longish (> 30 minute) drive. Any clues?
View 5 RepliesAfter returning from about a 5 hr roadtrip, I backed my snowmobile trailer up my steep driveway in 4wd and the truck did not want to move after that. The truck is an '05 SCREW 4X4 5.4L with about 110,000 miles on it. Trailer is probably around 1,000 lbs with the snowmobile on it.
The driveway is steep and short. That combined with the 90 degree turn to get in and some uneven terrain and part the path onto slippery frozen grass makes for a bit of a rodeo trip backwards up the driveway with a trailer.
Anyway, after getting the trailer up into it's place, I unhooked it, switched back to 2wd, disengaged the parking brake, and put it into drive. The truck didn't roll which was weird as it's now in drive pointed down hill. With about 1/4 - 1/3 throttle, it crept forward. Again, this is down hill. I got out walked around the truck (make sure I didn't forget to unhook anything etc) and tried again. Same thing.
Once I made it to the fairly level street, the truck would still only move, barely, with about 1/4 - 1/3 throttle. Now it was like some of the wheels were free but at least one had to break traction with the pavement to allow the truck to move forward. So with constant pressure on the accelerator it would chirp one or more of the wheels a bit at a time as it crept forward. Acted like it was in some sort of imaginary tug of war. After about 40' of driving it worked itself out. I've driven about 10 miles since and seems just fine.
I'm concerned because I plan to do this frequently with this trailer and in the summer frequently with a boat weighing about 3,500 lbs although shouldn't need 4wd in the summer.
I've been driving a 2014 base model GX for a little over year now. I noticed that when the vehicle is in drive and is stopped at a stop sign/light on a steep incline (i.e. front of vehicle is at significantly higher than rear), when accelerating away from the stop, the traction control system (?) will beep and make some noise for a second or two if the car rolls backward from the stop when the brake is released.

View 24 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius. Today it began showing an warning indicator light (car w/key symbol) and sounded the beeps it usually does when I forget to take the fob out of the ignition when leaving the car. However, I had taken the fob out.
Eventually, the battery drained as it does when leaving the fob in the ignition without running the car. Later, the warning light continued to blink, but the beeping stopped. The battery still drained. The local Toyota dealer said he has never heard of something like this.
I've had my car for a couple of months, and noticed last night a warning light flashing in the car in the driveway in the dark. I got in the car and tried to identify the icon but couldn't- bad eyes, apparently, and it flashes too quickly for me to make it out. It immediately stopped when I turned the car on. I could find nothing in the manual.
View 3 RepliesYesterday while doing a test run on my car, I had the "low brake pad" warning light come on in my car. I pulled the front wheels off to have a look and the pads looked fine. I followed the sensor cable to see if there was a short/open in it and I found on the vehicle-side of the wire harness that one of the wires came loose and detached from the harness. (that isn't a phenomenal description, but I hope you at least understand) Needless to say, I think I need to replace the wire harness. Is there a part number for JUST the plug, or am I looking at a whole assembly? With the searching I did, the only info I found was to short the circuit by cutting and splicing, but I would much rather fix it the right way.
View 5 RepliesI have a very strange issue with the car, it started last week once the weather had cooled down. Over a 3 day period when starting to drive the car from a cold start, after 30 secs, the following 3/4 things would happen.
The master warning light starts flashing with beeping
Message on the console 'Warning Key Detected'
Interior front courtesy light comes on for a few moments then goes off.
This continues until you stop the car. Turn it off. Wait then start again. Once going again it happens all over again. Until the car is warmed up, then it stops completely.
So I'm having some problems with the oil pressure warning light beeping at me. First time it came on I stopped immeadietly, checked the oil and it was fine. (I just changed it when I got it) so I started it up again and it was fine for a few days. Then it came on again Real quick then went off. Now it comes on once or twice every trIp. I've replaced the switch already but it was still coming on so I installed an oil pressure gauge and I've confirmed my suspicions that the engine is indeed not loosing pressure. It sits at about 30ish at idle and goes up to aboit 50to 60 while driving 2-3k rpm. Yet the Damn oil light keeps blIbking. I'm assuming it has a wiring problem. Is there a way to shut this up or do I have to trace wires til I find the prob

Last time I had the oil changed, I drove roughly 30 miles to work the following day. When I went to leave work the car beeped a few times, no lights went off. I pulled over and checked oil, it was a half quart low. Topped it off and didn't have a problem after.
Yesterday I had the oil changed, drove to work today and as I left I got that same beep. This time it looks like it's not low on oil. No lights went off, I pondered for a few minutes and took the streets home. No following light or signs of trouble.
What could be happening? My oil pressure sensor is relatively new, replaced it last year and I checked the connection today. I searched around but keep coming across common oil pressure threads. I'm planning to get an oil pressure gauge, guess I'll get one sooner than later for peace of mind.
I would like to know if its ok for me to top up the brake fluid on my r32.
Ok, my brake warning light is blinking, I've researched and found that either I need to top up the brake fluid or fluid level is low due to brake pad wear.
My car has 56k miles and by just looking at the pad I think it has plenty of life, maybe half worn.
So, should I just top up the fluid or do I need to just change the pad? Someone told me if I top up the fluid and change pad later fluid will over flow..
I recently snapped the emergency brake line on my Bonneville by using it for the first time. Now my brake light is on and beeping. It isn't siezed up. I don't plan on fixing the line if I don't have to. Is there any way to stop the beeping.
View 2 RepliesEvery now and then I get the amber light with the triangle surrounded by a circle. Then the trans starts shifting real hard. When I restart the car it goes away, but comes back every now and then. Especially when I am in traffic after a long trip.
View 23 RepliesI have had no issues with this car of 120K miles until today, although my MPG has decreased to 35 MPG. The following lights came on with a loud beeping sound : Brake warning lights, malfunction indicator light, master warning light and the hybrid system warning light. These stayed on for 25 minutes and then went off. I drove 12 miles without any issues with all the lights and sounds beeping.
View 4 RepliesMy wife's 1998 Passat's ABS and Brake lights both comes on along with that beeping buzzer. Everything is norm from start up, but after driving about 10 miles or so the ABS/brake light& buzzer show starts up.
It seems the ABS is working because my wife found a patch of sand in a parking lot and jammed on the brakes while the ABS/brake light& buzzer show was going on. She said she could feel the brakes pumping.
We took it in to the dealer and they check the brake pads and sensors. They said that the sensors and pads were ok. They thought it might have been dirty sensor, so they clean them.
Two days later the ABS/brake light& buzzer show came back. But this time my brakes squeal a little if you press on the brake lightly. (cleaning solution got on the brakes?) Also how big a deal is it installing a new ABS black box ? (where is it?)
