2000 Jetta GLS, 2.0, Standard Trans............ Need to solve either of these issues??? I am newer to the VW family and unfamiliar with their designs/technology.
View 5 RepliesI've noticed that my turn signals/hazard indicators don't flash on my car when I release the trunk or lock and unlock the doors. I have 2 friends, one with a 2000 like mine and one with a 99.5 that do, and all the newer models I encountered at the car lot I used to work at did as well. I always figured it was a mid run model revision until I noticed my one friend's doing it, then I noticed the other.

key fob worked when i first got car a few months ago, previous owner wanted strereo so changed stereo now key fob doesnt work,
Tried so far: removed Car battery for 10 mins Checked all relevant Fuses Used VAG - Com to check Qty of Keys programmed = correct Used VAC COM to re-sync key. Car signlaed a beep to show correct programming Used VAG com to inspect convenience model, No faults found. Used VAG com to measure sensor, this displays a 1 or 0 dependant on which button is pushed,
Notes Central Locking works from Key in door and via internal push button. Dead locking works if u use key in door twice - alarm arms if Car is dead locked and unlocked with Key in door, the Alarm sounds, I have to put key in ignition and quarter turn to disarm. So in summary It would apear Central locking works as does the key as does the sensor. What else can i try?
So I have an 05 MK4 GLI, my alarm has not worked since the day I got it. Hold the alarm button on the fob, no luck. when I lock or unlock the car, the lights don't flash and the horn doesn't beep. My ex had an 03 GLS 2.0, alarm/lock/unlock worked without a problem, so why mine doesn't work.

I know that they flash when you lock the doors (hitting the button twice) but curious at to whether you can make them flash when you unlock (rather than just the interior light coming on).

View 13 RepliesOkay, i have an issue with both rear doors randomly not locking or unlocking, i have to manually push down on the rear door lock buttons to lock them, then when i try to unlock them they get stuck, then when i pull the inside door handles they pop up again only sometimes.
1. I use keyfob to lock or unlock wont work
2. I manually put key into the drivers door, still not working
3. I use the inside drivers door switch and still doesn't work
Other problem is when I arm the alarm with keyfob, battery goes flat, i think it's sensing that the door is open why its draining the battery. Both front doors work excellent.
My girlfriend's 2005 Jetta has started intermittently leaving its lights on after she locks the car. It seems to happen with the fob OR with the keys in the lock. It started a few weeks ago with just the left rear turn signal. Now it is starting to do all four corners and the repeater on the front fenders.
The lights don't blink, they stay on solid usually after doing the normal "lock blink" and noise. This obviously drains the battery so we've had to jump it a few times.
How to fix this? To me it is obviously something electronic, but I didn't know if I should look to replace relays/fuses/wires/etc.
I recently purchased my first car/jetta. When i switch the knob to turn on the instrument lights on my 2000 jetta the headlights don't come on. But when i turn the knob off the auto headlights turn on. Any insight on this? when i first got the car everything was working fine. It only started to happen after I replaced the radiator.
View 6 RepliesI just bought a 2002 Jetta 1.8t today and have a few questions for some of you with vast knowledge on these cars.
1) When I lock the car the interior lights don't turn off, and about 5 seconds later the dash lights turn on. I sat outside in a lawn chair and waited 10 minutes to see if they would go off and they didn't. Would that be a faulty door switch or the CCM acting up?
2) Doing a 3" catless downpipe with 3" straight pipe?
3) Are there any major issues I should look out for? The car seems to be in pretty good mechanical condition, minus a loose exhaust hanger that rattles at idle. Not bad for 119,00 miles.
I recently have been running into some problems with my 03 jetta 2.0. Last night as I was driving home my radio start to turn off followed by ABS, airbag and battery lights coming on and then lights on the dashboard were dimming followed by headlights going out for a few secs then returning on but dim. I stopped in my drive way to open door and when I tried to press the accelerator, my car completely died.
Over the past 2 weeks or so I have had to change the fuel pump and the alternator because i thought that was the problem. I noticed when i first had problems the fuel pump wasn't charging so i changed that. then days later my car started to completely die when I tried to start it(not turning over, no lights no nothing). i tried a new battery it would still die. So I installed a new alternator. My car worked fine for about a week-week and a half before last night.
I just noticed it this morning. When I step on my brake pedal, all 3 brake lights activate, then they start to sporadically blink, I don't think it's a fuse problem, since the 3rd brake light also blinks, and I believe it runs independent of the regular brake lights.
What to check.. No codes are being listed, checked that with my Scangauge II already. (2006 GLS)
I have checked all fuses, checked wires on top of steering column all checked out ok. Hazards work but when I press brake tail lights just blink with no brake light but the 3rd brake light works??? Signal switch maybe??
View 14 RepliesWhy it does not want to work. And to break it down - I click the unlock button once (as I have always been doing) and the blinkers blink 4 times and all the windows automatically roll down. I know that on newer cars that is a feature, but only when you HOLD the button, not click it.
Where the problem could be? Only thing that I'm suspicious on is the 'new' used lock I bought because the old one just didn't lock at all and wouldn't recognize that the door is open. But in the beginning it didn't do that and seemed to work as pretty much new.
The brake lights in my GTI keeping going out, I kept replacing the fuse and it kept blowing out.
I then replaced the relay/switch. They worked for a while now out again.
I have a 2002 Jetta Wagon 1.8 t I got pulled over the other day for no brake lights, and I figured it was just a fuse, but I had a look and it isn't that. the middle light thing in the top of the window comes on, so I know the switch works. (is is mechanical on the pedal, or hydraulic pressure?) Both taillights come on, but neither brake light. What's going on here?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2004 with 210,000 miles. I have noticed recently that my fob is not locking / unlocking my car unless I'm almost right on top of it, even with a clear sight of the car. Didn't use to be that way. I changed the battery and not much improvement.
View 2 RepliesSo yesterday on my way to work the EPC light came on. Everything seemed fine. No loss of power or check engine light. Just an EPC light on the dash. So after searching around and checking the forums I decided to step outside and check the codes. I have a bluetooth OBD2 deal that talks to my phone and I have software on my phone to read and clear codes and other things. I checked but no codes. So I decided to do the clear codes function and it made the EPC light go off. On my way to grab some lunch the EPC light came back on and I noticed my cruise control would not work. Did some more research and figured it must be the brake light switch.
Went and bought one for 15 bucks and installed it. Cleared the light again with my phone and headed home. On my way home the EPC light comes back on. Once I get home I check and find my brake lights dont work at all. I checked the switch and it is functioning properly. I could even unplug the brake light switch and jump the red/brown power wire to the red/black wire and they still wouldn't light up. No power getting back to the lights. This morning I get up and head to work. No more EPC light and my brake lights are working fine. I'm thinking maybe a short in that red/black wire but I just don't know. Does that wire go straight from the brake light switch to the brake lights or does it go through any modules or connectors or anything? I would love to get a schematic of the Brake light wiring. 2002 GTI VR6.
First of all, its not a faulty brake light switch. I just found out that my rear brake lights have been out. I went to check the fuse and it was blown. I've replaced it but the second i touch the brake pedal, it pops again. Things I've tried...
I checked the wiring for any exposed wiring and i didn't find anything.
I disconnected the entire light assembly from the connectors on both sides and the fuse still blew.
I'm suspecting a bad ground, (as there was a point when the lights would work, even when i touched the pedal, but as soon as i pop the trunk open, the fuse would blow.
Where the lights are grounded? Is there anything else i should check?

My FOB is only unlocking my door. It's not locking doors. Thought it might be the FOB battery. I changed it and still no locking, just unlocking.
