I bought this 01 jetta vr6 and now the abs-asr light is on. hooked up my obd II and it said no data. i have two questions first are there different scanners just for Volkswagen and the next can it be reset for testing?
View 4 RepliesReplaced my Crankshaft position sensor and cleared my codes but I'm still getting a P0016 and P0018 error. Car runs fine at the moment. Can't smog and therefore register it till I figure it out. Next step is replacing the Camshaft position sensor.

I've been dealing with random misfire codes on my Jetta (P0300, P0301-P0304). I've since replaced the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, MAF senor, & camshaft positioning sensor but the problem still persists. The misfires occur right on start-up and don't stop which is leading me to the coil pack being bad.
So i hit a pretty nasty manhole on the road which hit my driver side lower control arm and caused my passenger seat and curtain airbag to deploy. no damage anywhere else. I got the airbags replaced (seat is being reupholstered atm) so i was wondering is it possible to reset the log or do i have to get a new sensor.
View 3 RepliesI didn't use my Jetta for about 4 weeks and now just noticed that the numbers (miles driven/total miles & time) are blank. There is just a small pixel in the middle of the left display. I checked Fusible 13 and 15 I presume (5A each) and they are ok. No codes with vag com.
View 17 RepliesMy 2015 GTI SE PP 6-speed is 7 months old with only 4000 miles on it. I took her out for a drive on twisting, changing-elevation roads near my house this past Sunday when it was 100 degrees out. My AC was blowing full-force and I was driving moderately hard up a twisty hill at 35 miles an hour in 2nd gear when the EPC light came on and the power was cut noticeably, as it went into limp mode. I pulled over, shut her down and restarted. The EPC light went away, the power came back and I have had no further issues. I only have an OBD II reader, not VAGCOM, and the OBD II didn't read any fault at all.
How concerned should I be about this episode and secondly, what can I look for in case there's a reasonably simple physical issue (like a leaking hose or loose sensor plug) that I can rectify instead of taking it to the dealer (it is under warranty, but my closest dealer does not engender confidence- they treat you like you're a problem when you walk in the door)?
This is my first car with tons of electronics and I'm a little concerned that the EPC issue could get ahead of me. I'm a good wrench, but this is something the ECU is dealing with and I'm not very clear on how to proceed.
I've been trying to get my music from iTunes to an SD card so I have some traveling music for the long drive home. All the files transferred to the card and I can play them on my MacBook pro, but when I put the SD card into my '10 TDI Sportwagon (which has an SD card slot) the radio says the card contains no data. I tried both a 32gb and a 8gb card. For both cards, the radio says the card contains no data.
View 8 RepliesMy wife was driving her truck yesterday and said the MIL light started to flash and the truck felt like "it was about to blow up" . So when I got home I busted out the trusty old scanner and this is what I got:
P0305- Cyl 5 misfire'
P0354- Ignition coil D primary/ Secondary circuit malfunction
P0304- Cylinder 4 misfire
The truck is a 2005 5.4 with ~130,000 on it and it runs very well for the most part. I have done the spark plugs before the summer and replaced them with the motorcrasft sp-515s. I am guessing the problem will be with the #4&5 coil packs. is there a way to troubleshoot these?
2012 GTI. DSG My airbag was blows, so I replaced it. Now im getting the following code.
18036 - Powertrain Data Bus
P1628 - 000 - Missing Message from Steering Angle Sensor
Can the sensor go bad after the airbag was blown? All the steering wheel controls still work.
Just replaced the RR speed sensor (that was fun) nothing a big hammer and flit tip screw driver can't fix there. Just 2 days ago the abs and asr light popped on the dash AGAIN. Ode too joy. Used a simple universal scanner too see if I could pull any codes, always worked for me, sure the scanner sees manufacturer specific codes it didn't bother me given I have the Bentley manuals. Already searched and found these lights related too codes or srs and brake light. Not my case. Given it's pretty odd I figured for future events of other mk4 owners this would be a good idea.
View 5 RepliesWas taking an exit ramp going about 90km/h, not doing anything crazy or abnormal, and my ASR light on my dash flicked on a couple of times and it cut the power, as though I was slipping while accelerating in snow. I hit the ASR switch on my console, and all problems went away.... then I parked my car for a few hours, took it for a drive later on in the night and all was well.
Not sure if this makes a difference but I bottomed out kinda hard on highway about 20 minutes before this happened going about 80km/h.
I purchased a 2002 2.0 jetta a couple of months ago and not long after I had it I noticed that the airbag light had come on. I brought it to a garage and had them check it out and they came back with a code that read 01218 side airbag igniter passenger side. When. I asked about getting this fixed they really couldn't say much about what exactly the problem was other then to say that it could be a problem with the whole system...which I don't get as the code only came back for the side airbag igniter. I also went and spoke to the dealer here in town and they wouldn't even speak to me about it unless I let them have the car be seen by one of their mechanics and putting the computer on it to read the code which I had already told them about.
View 6 RepliesI have a VW 2001 1.8 T. I have had a problem with the ASR light coming on and staying on for more than a year. It is horrible. They can't figure out the problem. I can't tell you how many things they've tried to fix this.
My ASR light comes on while driving on DRY pavement and stays on. My car's performance decreases greatly. I have a case with 800-VW and my local VW has been trying to fix this for a year. The MAF (mass air flow) is still failing, but since it has already been replaced TWICE, they won't replace it again. We got an extended warranty on the MAF as you might recall.
I am at a loss.. they've replaced the air filter, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the ASR switch, they've redone all the ground connections, and replaced the spark plugs. NOTHING IS WORKING. MY ASR LIGHT STILL COMES ON 4 DAYS/ WEEK.
Right now, my VW has their techline involved and even they don't know what to do. I've payed for several UNNEEDED repairs for my car and the ASR light still comes on.
I am having a problem with my MK4 Jetta. The problem is that the light that says "Brake" on the dash is on and it is very dimly lit when the ebrake is down/ disengaged. But when I pull it up, it is lit up as much as it should. Also most of the time it will get even more dim if you tap the brake pedal or the clutch. My Jetta is scheduled to go get inspected in a few days and I need to fix this or it wont pass. Epc light is on going down the list of things it can be. Should this be closed all the way while car is off. And if it is then is it closed all the way in the picture?
Here's my question. Recently my muffler fell off the back of my car and was dragging on the ground. The front bracket had snapped off and so had the pipe right where it comes out of the front of the muffler. I want to replace with the stock oem muffler but i can't afford it right now. My question is can i just take the muffler off for the time being so it wont drag on the ground? Will this harm the engine or be completely absurdly loud? Is this even legal....
View 2 RepliesMK4 Jetta, 4cyl 5spd, and while driving the EPC light comes on, and it looses power. Doesn't matter if shifting, stopping, going, in town, on the highway, the light comes on and it drastically looses power. If shuts it off while driving (it's a 5spd) that sometimes fixes it (sometimes for days, sometimes for minutes). Sometimes it takes 35 minutes to get a distance that normally takes 5 minutes to drive. Is this a common problem? What to check/replace, while I still have access to the car (and a Autozone and a VW Dealership)...
View 24 RepliesMy ABS light has been on for quite some time although I don't notice anything actually wrong with the system, it brakes very well and I have done a couple 60-0's. Any common fix other than replacing the entire sensor, it's the only light in my cluster at the moment.
