View 4 Replies 2005 Golf TDI... I'm due for a smog check, and of course, in the last few weeks I've been getting some check engine lights intermittently. I'd rather take care of the problem before trying to smog. Anyway, here are the codes.

P0673 - Cylinder 3 glow plug circuit/open

To be honest, I haven't learned all that much about my Golf TDI. Just normal maintenance. So, I don't know where to start.
The brake lights in my GTI keeping going out, I kept replacing the fuse and it kept blowing out.
I then replaced the relay/switch. They worked for a while now out again.
I removed the rear shelf to do some reupholstering. Obviously, the third brake light is enclosed in this assy. Now every thing is back together and my 3rd brake light isn't working anymore. Probably got banged around when it was out. On troubleshooting it, it actually works but comes on so low that you can't even see it behind the glass. I even disassembled the whole thing and directly wired it to the car battery same results. All LEDs illuminate but at a fraction of what they should. I'd say maybe 1/10 of what they should. I checked continuity of the whole circuit board and every thing checks with no broken solder except for 1 diode. It's the black one on the far right that has no continuity. Why such a low illumination?
View 2 RepliesI got a feeling of dread when that light came on, luckily I was a block from home so I shut it off and pushed it home. I had a local VW mechanic come look at it the next morning, only the light wasn't on anymore there is a loud humming coming from the top of the engine, the head as it were, as if high RPM, but no clanking or metal on metal grinding. Does it spell game over?
View 3 RepliesMy brake fluid is fine and fuses 5 & 9 are good. Brake lever is all the way down as well. Have read that for some simply replacing the cap worked. Car is a 2000 w/170K. BTW, A/C does not work, clutch not spinning, fuses ok there as well. I've made sure a/c button is not on nor is recirc button. Some have said probe can be related to this but that also can show up with a bad fuse # 5, but mine is good.
View 5 RepliesSo my brake light on my dash is on. The other morning when I started my car the like came on blinking with only 3 beeps. No more beeping after that just blinking. Now it has been doing this every time I start my car since (3 beeps and blinking). My abs light is also on but it has been on for years. I checked the brake fluid and it is full. I also never use my ebrake because it doesn't work so this shouldn't be the problem.
View 3 RepliesSo yesterday on my way to work the EPC light came on. Everything seemed fine. No loss of power or check engine light. Just an EPC light on the dash. So after searching around and checking the forums I decided to step outside and check the codes. I have a bluetooth OBD2 deal that talks to my phone and I have software on my phone to read and clear codes and other things. I checked but no codes. So I decided to do the clear codes function and it made the EPC light go off. On my way to grab some lunch the EPC light came back on and I noticed my cruise control would not work. Did some more research and figured it must be the brake light switch.
Went and bought one for 15 bucks and installed it. Cleared the light again with my phone and headed home. On my way home the EPC light comes back on. Once I get home I check and find my brake lights dont work at all. I checked the switch and it is functioning properly. I could even unplug the brake light switch and jump the red/brown power wire to the red/black wire and they still wouldn't light up. No power getting back to the lights. This morning I get up and head to work. No more EPC light and my brake lights are working fine. I'm thinking maybe a short in that red/black wire but I just don't know. Does that wire go straight from the brake light switch to the brake lights or does it go through any modules or connectors or anything? I would love to get a schematic of the Brake light wiring. 2002 GTI VR6.
So my brake pads worn light came on recently on my 03 jetta...low and behold all 4 brake pads needed changing...funny though because upon buying pads with the sensor when I went to put new pads on the old ones didnt even have a sensor it was already cut at the harness and spliced together to keep the light off....so upon inspection one of the wires was black and the other copper....idk if one was supposed to be black or if its because its fried? Anyways i went as far up the wires as I could till they are harnessed in with the abs sensor wires...still one wire black....spliced together crimped and still the light comes and goes....I dont have access to the vcds or vagcom so can't turn it off that way..
View 2 RepliesI have an 05 GLI with many mods, far from stock. In the past i have tried to recode the ABS module with my vag com to ABS only because the traction control does not work when you make 300whp and im sick of pushing the button every time i get in the car. The module will not take the recode so i gave up. Then about a week ago the ABS light came on for no reason and i can not turn off the traction control with the esp button so i checked the code.
It said something about a system test (ill have to check it tomorrow to find out what the code was) i tried to clear it and it would come right back with no other codes. Then i took the car out and beat on it and the traction control still works (or trys to) and i hammered on the brakes and the ABS still works and the fluid is still full. Then i came to red light and i after i stopped i pushed the brake petal hard and the traction control light started flashing (im still stopped and not moving at all) It just kept flashing for over a minute even after i started driving. Then the tc light stayed on and the ABS light went off. As soon as i turned the car off and back on it was ABS light on and tc light off. Still only the same code stored. I tried recoding it to a car with ABS, ESP, and HD suspension and it took that coding. But still had the same code so i recoded it back to my oem one.
So in my 05 gti , the door ajar light stays on and when it does go off it will randomly blink ! I'm guessing there must be a loose connection somewhere ? Also all of a sudden my alarm will randomly go off . It's annoying . I'm not sure how to fix it .
View 1 RepliesI have a 2005 GTI 1.8T with 203K miles, stock except for a MagnaFlow exhaust. My problem arose about a month ago. When I accelerate aggressively and shift from 4th gear to fifth at about 4K RPMs the engine will jump up to 5K RPMs. Happens while shifting from any gear when accelerating hard.
When I push down on the clutch and take my foot off the gas, I get a jump in RPMs. It's kind of like the boost in the turbo is not getting released. I replaced the stock diverter valve with a Forge DV with the splitter. Had no effect on my problem, but now I have that cool sound when I get off the gas.
Could this be the waste gate on the turbo not opening and releasing the boost when I get off the gas? I'm not very familiar with the intricacies of the Turbo functions and the diverter valve.
I started the car one morning after it snowed. the red "BRAKE" light is constantly on and while the car is moving it beeps which is extremely annoying.. I have tried:
-Topping off brake fluid
- another ebrake sensor (under the center console)
- brake pads have plenty of meat on them
- brake light are working
My 1.8T with auto trans is stuck in park. I've read that the likely culprit is the break light switch but before I order the part and install it I wanted to check what else it can be because it was working fine before I fixed some coil wires. Basically I unplugged the ECU and tested continuity from the coil connectors to the ecu connectors.
I found an issues, resolved it, plugged everything back in, fire the car up, turned it off, re-installed all the covers, etc. Then I repaired a broken wire in the trunk lid wiring that was broken. But when I went to back it out of my garage I couldn't get it out of park.
If it's just happened to go while doing all this other work then it's just a coincidence, but are there other things I can check based on the ignition work I've been doing?
I drive a 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8T 6speed which in South Africa is called 1.8T-R. The car shakes at idle and after driving for a while it cuts off power, when restarting it takes some time cranking before starting. After starting the EPC light comes on and the rev goes up to almost 2000rpm. It runs on an AUQ Engine.
View 1 Replies2005 Jetta. The car makes a loud deep humming noise once I hit about 75mph, and goes away once I get to about 82 or so. I've taken it out of gear and matched the rpm I get at those speeds, and I don't hear the noise at all. It's only when I'm in gear. What this could be?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2000 VW Jetta GL. A few weeks ago I noticed my charging light come on followed by abs and airbag lights. Which would mean that the alternator is not charging the battery. However I kept on driving and this light would go off. However when I hit a bump on the road this light goes off meaning that the battery is being charged by the alternator. I recently installed a sound system in the vehicle which worked without problems for a few weeks before I started having this problem. Since then I have changed the alternator, battery and taken out the sound system. I now have a 125 amp alternator instead of a 90 amp alternator. The charge light doesn't come on anymore after startup but the abs, airbag and emergency brake light with a beep is now occurring.
View 3 RepliesHad the 2003 Jetta in for inspection, and he said the rear brake caliper was gone. SO he replaced it.
Now in the morning when I leave for work, as I go up my steep driveway, the brake warning light comes on and beeps at me. Then it stops.
On the way home, as I come up the steep road to my driveway, the warning light comes on and beeps at me!
All other times and all other driving, it's fine.
I just got a 2001 Jetta 2.0 (I know slow but I needed a work vehicle) and the dash lights and passenger rail lights don't work, the check engine light, fuel light, all those type of lights work, but the speedometer and blinkers and that stuff don't work, and then the blinker works in the back but no break light. I'm pretty good mechanically but when it comes to electrical stuff I'm completely stumped. What it could be? I haven't looked into anything due to just getting it last night and having to work this morning.

Also, my friend pointed out to me that both of my reverse lights arenot even coming on. I suspect a loose wire somewhere. Where should I look? Or something else?

It starts ticking and gets a little faster and then stops for a few seconds then begins again. It fully stops while driving. I changed tensioner, belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and oil change with mobile 1 synthetic 0w-40.
