So I picked this clean mk4 up and its my daily but what to do. It already has new coilovers and little things here and there.I recently noticed my e brake doesn't work I tried adjusting but no luck what can it be the cables seem to be intake. Also if I get a bov does it make my gas mileage crappy?
View 7 RepliesI am having a problem with my MK4 Jetta. The problem is that the light that says "Brake" on the dash is on and it is very dimly lit when the ebrake is down/ disengaged. But when I pull it up, it is lit up as much as it should. Also most of the time it will get even more dim if you tap the brake pedal or the clutch. My Jetta is scheduled to go get inspected in a few days and I need to fix this or it wont pass. I included a video of what it's doing so click on it and maybe y'all will be able to tell me what's wrong with it. [URL] ....

p0264- cyl 2 "
p0445- evap emission system purge control valve circuit shorted
p2257- secondary air injection system control A circuit low
p0010- A camshaft position actuator/open bank 1
p0414- secondary air injection system switching valve A circuit shorted
Obviously an electrical issue, no way all these codes spring up all at once for separate reasons. Any fuses, relays, harnesses or grounds that relate to all or most of these problems.
Car has trouble at start up, takes a little longer to turn over. If I don't stay on the gas it will eventually cut off. Once I am driving its fine. Its only once the E brake is up, it will cut off right after the brake light comes on.
I just recently replaced all timing chains on a 2000 VR6 jetta, all is working great but now I have an ABS, traction control on and ebrake on (flashing) constantly. Did I miss a ground somewhere? the only one I know of was from battery
View 3 RepliesWhere to begin, I've checked things i thought could be the issue but aren't. I am having a constant e-brake light on which as you know emits the loud and annoying beep sound. What I've checked and done:
I checked the brake fluid, its fully topped off. I also removed the ebrake switch (the thing under it that when depressed pushes the button and turns the light off) and just crossed the wires to complete the circuit (this does the same as the button essentially) before buying a new one to see if that was the issue, which is doesn't seem to be. I had my buddy run vagcom which turned up no codes that SHOULD make this issue occur. I even popped in a new brake light switch which didn't work.
At the same time of this happening my car is making ZERO boost at all. Is it a coincidence? I don't know... it's just weird they would both happen at the same exact time. Again, no codes are showing up. Checked lines and didn't see any potential boost leaks. What to do.
Driving home tonight and my car lost all mechinical power, electronics still work. Car turns over but will not start, also hear a clicking noise coming from the driver side of the engine when car is being turned over.
View 1 RepliesSo my ac stopped working, well actually I bought the car in the winter and never realized it didn't work until the summer rolled around. The clutched pulley won't engage and I don't know why. I checked all the fuses and checked the the pressure in the system and its all good.
Here's the weird part through. I put my multimeter on the connector for the compressor and it reads 12v whether I have the ac on or not.
So I took apart my key fob the other day to put it into a new shell, only to realize you can't swap an oval-buttoned key to a rectangle-button fob, so I reassembled my key and now it doesn't work. I can unlock the door manually but it doesn't disarm the alarm. I can start my car and the alarm will go off but the engine stays running. Battery's are good. I don't get it.
View 3 RepliesI have a 00 Jetta 2.0 AEG engine code and my cooling fans don't seem to be kicking on the low setting. I have changed out my FCM and have also checked the fans to see if they were burnt out and both fans work on both low and high settings. This is also causing my car to overheat but the high speed will kick on when the temp gets too high.
View 9 RepliesWell our remotes only worked close the car and was driving us nuts. You'd have to be within 10 feet or so to arm or unarm the car. So i looked at the wiring diagram for the comfort control module and found which pin the antenna wire is at. Its pin 10 of the smaller connector (12 pin i think) and is a copper wound wire with a clear sheath around it. its the only one that doesn't have a colored insulation around it. I removed the terminal and wire from that slot and installed a new terminal with 6 feet of wire spliced on.
I then routed the new antenna wire along the door sill and to the rear seat area. Its now a 6 foot antenna instead of the small 2 foot one. I then started walking away and arming and un-arming the car. i got to the end of my court (roughly 50 feet) and it was still arming and un-arming even if i held the remote low and not up in the air. Id have to say this was a HUGE improvement and i am much happier not having to walk down stairs to arm the car.
I was just curious, is running stage one clutch with f21 turbo kit. I would like to know if it will hold up as long as I don't launch...
View 2 RepliesSo I was driving today when suddenly my headlights went out so I put my highbeams on and note...they were obviously working...but when I pulled parked the car they went off also and now nothing works; neither high beams or headlights. Also, the rear running lights and both turn signals work on the front and back. I checked the fuses and none were blow.
View 3 RepliesDropped my car off at Costco for a few hours (New Tires) and when I picked it up, the "unlock" key on my key fob failed to work. The Lock and trunk unlock keys work but the typical unlock (for the doors) doesn't work at all.
View 2 RepliesI was 4 hours into a 6 hour trip (on the way home) and my air stopped working! when i press the AC button, it lights up on settings 1,2, and 3 but NOTHING blows from the vents (whether the AC button is pressed or not, nothing comes out!) however... when I turn it to "4," air blows full blast but the AC light turns off and only blows warm air.
thinking I need to check my compressor!
I have been having an overheating issue with my 2001 1.8 turbo Golf GTI MK4. What I have replaced and checked:
-Supposed new water pump (dealer said they changed it when they did timing belt) (to be even more clear i pulled the top line off the coolant reservoir and there was a constant flow of coolant from the line meaning the pump is indeed working.)
-Thermostat (I personally changed it, 190* thermostat, aftermarket brand)
-Green top coolant temperature sensor (I personally changed it, its the one on the flange at the head, from the dealer)
-Cooling fan Thermo switch (I personally changed it, its the one located on the driver side on the radiator itself from the dealer)
-Checked fan motor speeds and operation. (I tested the cooling fan thermo switch and both fans came on at low speed, as well as both fans came on at high speed, which according to this test states the thermo switch is bad, but i already replaced it.)

What my car does:
-Car starts to warm up and reaches 190* and fans start to cycle
-Both top and lower radiator fans become hot
-Car starts to get hot (indicator starts to go to the first line after the 190 line)
-Fans stop coming on
At this point i do one of two things to resolve the issue:
-start to drive (thus getting air through the radiator, and it cools the coolant and the engine.)
-turn off the car
What the problem is:
The fans wont turn on, on their own past a certain temperature, but sometimes when i turn the car off the fans will then kick on. (At idle, with the car on, they wont turn on again past, what seems, a certain temperature.)
My car is ''remap'' from 1.4 to 1.8 golf iv.. I think that immobilizer don't work,can I change speedometer from 1.8 gti without make encode the new one? Only to take the new speedometer and fit it on my car.. Also how can I understand if my immobilizer works? I have vag com...
View 2 RepliesMy latch wont open at all! When i first bought the car the trunk would open but Im not sure what had happened to it. The key doesn't work at all but every time I press the button on my key too open it or from the button on the floor it makes the noise that it unlocked but its still shut??!!?! Maybe I thought it was the fuse but I had changed fuse 15 still nothing any body experienced this before seems too be a common problem. Should I just go through the front and take the panels off for the hatch and diagnose whats wrong with it?
View 1 RepliesI just replaced my evap box along with most everything connected to it (had some bad servos and replaced other stuff for good measure). AC works great now, but the heater still doesn't work. I've had this car 4 years and the heater has never worked. When I took the box apart, the doors were naked (no foam). Heater core looked ok, but thought it would be stupid not to replace it while I was there.
So, I was hoping this may cure my heater issue, but was really only looking to get the AC going. So, the car had been running for 30-45 minutes and while the heater was on, I went to check the heater core hoses, the pass side hose was hot, the driver's side wasn't. Driver's side goes to axillary pump and bottom of coolant reservoir. Not too long ago, I replaced the mechanical pump and t-stat along with other stuff (crack pipe, etc.). Thought I'd get everything while I had the system drained. Didn't work then, either.
I recently changed my battery and now my auxiliary doesn't work. I have read that it's simply changing a code with program. Vagcom-(VCDS)

Since my first post the jetta has come a long way. still has a longer way to go.
I have searched up and down and i can only see people complaining about the reverse of my situation.
Is the Horn and the Alarm beep the same unit? Maybe a fuse?
