This is kind of an odd ball problem since I have not encountered this before, but every time I turn my wheels full left or full right and start moving a really high pitched squeaking sound comes from the front of the car. Is it bad alignment or wear sensors on the brake pads rubbing? the brakes have a lot of pad left so i find that hard to believe.
View 5 RepliesYesterday I noticed that there was a high pitched squeaking noise coming from the front of the car as I was driving. It was loud enough to hear over the radio, which I muted to confirm where it was coming from. It sounded as if it whatever was making it was rotating, if that makes sense. It was the most noticeable from speeds 5 mph to 30 mph, but I couldn't tell if it was the wheels or engine compartment. I have 4300 miles on it.
View 6 RepliesI have an 02 Elantra GT. I was dropping off a friend who knows cars and went to turn around, turned the wheel to full lock to make the turn and heard a squeal. I asked my friend what it was and he said it was the P/S and I just needed to add some P/S fluid. I got some fluid and sure enough when I went to fill up the reservoir it was below to MIN line, not too much below but still below it. I filled up the fluid and didn't hear the problem for the rest of the day but this morning I heard the same noise when I was leaving for work. I figured the fluid had to work its way though but am not sure if there is something else I should check or do.
View 3 RepliesI'm having a strange, very high-pitched, noise that seems to be coming from my turbo or (possibly) somewhere else in the engine bay. It sounds very screechy, and it may be paranoia, but I believe it also may have a slight metallic sound to it.
It all started yesterday after changing the thermostat housing for the third time in 2 days (autozone sold me a faulty, warped, housing that leaked after install). During this repair the engine never overheated (it did however leak fluid and go a little low) and the main point for replacement was a stuck thermostat. After finally getting it fixed I took it for a test drive and noticed the horrid noise after hitting a good amount of boost (no gauge installed). The noise occurs when boosting and doesn't happen when spooling in the 3k-4k range. I had no hint of the noise before this.
There doesn't seem to be any drop in performance and it still pulls hard. Hoping this to be a loose exhaust connection or boost leak. May be spooling sound escaping.
Mods:
- short ram air intake with an aem filter
- 3" turbo-back exhausted
- revo chipped
- 4 bar fpr
Have a very high pitched squeal on cold starts as well as when idle occasionally.
Bad compressor?
I've been having some issues with the way my car is running today. Drove to the store, and he was fine. On the way home, he hit 4rpm and then dropped extremely fast. Then I stopped at a red light.. I went to go, hit maybe 2.5 rpm and it made this high pitched squeak and shifted really hard. I made it home fine after that, and no lights are coming on. I just changed my spark plugs not even a month ago.

View 9 RepliesI have a 2002 jetta 1.8t with unitronic stage 2 ECU and following mods:
ssqv BOV with recirc fitting (so acts like a DV)
3 inch open downpipe
Water/Meth injacetion (-35c washer fluid)
Short ram intake+heat sheild.
Spring loaded wastegate.
So for a while now I could hear a very quiet high pitched sound along with a whoosh sound from the intake at low rpm when the car is cold, after 5-10 minutes of driving the sound changes to where i just hear the wooosh from the intake, no high pitched.
I went out, let my car park for about an hour or 2 in 0c temp. went to drive it,everything is fine, the car just hit 90c. so i floored it, but traction control was on and i have winter tires, so it barley got to 4k rpm. CEL started flashing, no throttle control, really annoying high pitched sound from engine bay with lightest touch of throttle. the trubo was boosting to 22 psi and holding up to 16 PSI at redline before this happened.
The car would struggle to stay at idle, massive vibrations. but after reeving to 2k+ rpm no issue staying at that rpm, no blue/black smoke from exhaust. i scanned it and only got misfire codes and this strange code : "17925 - power supply relay for ecu (J271 or J363): electrical malfunction"
I had to clear the codes 3-4 times and restart the car 3 times for the power supply relay code to go away. but all the misfires, the high pitched sound stayed. it would misfire while driving, then stop, and then again.
I also logged with VCDS, and flooring it from 2k rpm to 2.6k rpm resulted in 0 extra boost over idle (idle boost was 980mbar).
Is my turbo blown 100% because of that sound, or could it be something else causing the "dentist drill" sound? And what about the power relay issue for ECU, could this cause any of the symptoms?
When I go out in the morning to my c430 and start to reverse always on full lock either right or left the wheels seem to slip or slightly spin - it only happens for a second but it's strange and doesn't always happen.

I've put on about 2,500 miles so far and recently started noticing when I start the car up, it is giving off a high pitched squeaking noise. This happens both when the car is using the electric battery and when I can feel the gas engine kick in. After about a minute or two, the noise goes away and doesn't come back.
View 5 RepliesI drive a 2002 4-dr 1.6 L Accent and there is a strange, high-pitched squeaking that comes about from somewhere under the car at very slow speeds (30 mph or below). If I hit the brakes, the noise continues sometimes as the car slows. (The noise isn't the brakes, though, I know that), but if I hit the gas pedal slowly, the noise stops. Whatever is vibrating underneath doesn't seem to be causing a problem at high speeds. Or I just can't hear it.
Secondly, I am going to try to do some tune-ups for the summer for lack of better things to do, mostly, I can pretty much do anything (intake/exhaust, engine, electrical) as long as I can find detailed instructions.
i proudly own a 1986 4runner and i loved it ever since i got it. but i noticed on the way to a buddies house, a really high pitched squeaking noise...almost like a mouse. I just set it aside and turned up the radio. well this morning it was really getting worse. it was more audible and I am sure others can hear it in the parking lot of my school.
Also, I have another problem (trying to kill two birds with one stone here) i went to start the truck the other morning and its getting really really cold, about freezing point and when i started it up, the engine was idling at about 500rpm and there was a really loud noise under the hood, it sounded exactly like a vacuum cleaner. I quickly turned it off, hoping the started didn't stick or something, but the engine stopped and the vacuum cleaner noise stayed for about 4 or 5 seconds. I waited a few minutes and tried again and started right up and idled correctly. got to school, turned it off and started it back up and started correctly. went out there in the afternoon and it did it very shortly and just idled right. it still does it just barely every morning I start it.
I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with AT and V6 with 70k miles on it with pretty much everything loaded. The car has been trouble free since I got it 3 months ago. However,the past month, the engine has been making a high pitched "squeaking" noise whenever im at a constant speed. If I accelerate or brake, the noise goes away.
I also noticed today that it stays constant no matter what when I am in 4WD mode, but when I am in 2WD it behaviors like I describe earlier. I had the Toyota dealership do a complete lube service and they found two of the belts were "dry" and re-lubricated them however the problem persisted. The noise doesn't happen when im in idle or at a stop either. The noise seems to emanate from the right side of the engine.
Also, do 4Runners have a noisy brake cylinder system? Almost every time I brake I hear this slight "Pssssssssssssssssssss Tick!" sound from the engine. The car brakes just fine and the Toyota dealership found nothing out of the ordinary but i've never heard a car break that noisey before. This a 4Runner trait? What could be causing these two noises, especially the gawd awful squeaking noise from the engine. It never made that noise until just one day..
So I'm new to the all time awd car thing. I came from a 4x4 truck which 4x4 was never engaged on pavement or in tight cornering. When maneuvering my is250 awd in tight spots ie. parking lots and the front wheels are at full lock in either forward or reverse there is a slight binding/grinding feeling or faint noise. Is this normal on an awd car or Lexus specific??? Did a quick search and didn't find much about this issue. I'm pretty sure its not tire rub.....stock set up.
View 10 RepliesThis is the first winter I'm driving my truck. I put it in in 4x4 HIGH the other night due to the snow (and I wanted to check out everything).
Seemed to work fine until I was backing into a parking spot doing a full lock turn. It didn't seem to move. I gave it a little more throttle and it "released" like it was stuck or going over an obstacle. Happened again when I did a full turn backing into my driveway (this time turning the opposite way).
It seems to work fine going forward with tight turns. Also and it doesn't "bind" in 4x2 mode. I haven't tried 4x4 LOW yet ... I guess I don't want to wreck anything if it's not operating properly. Is this normal?
What is causing this strange noise. I have an old 1998 Subaru Impreza that runs well but has this mystery squeaking noise coming from the area near the front left of the car. It seems to happen most on cold, dry days, and I can hear it when the car shakes, but only when it is driving, never at rest. I can usually make the noise if I let up on the gas while still in gear, and it happens sometimes while going over bumps, but typically only if the bump only affects one side of the car. If I am accelerating quickly or braking, the noise usually doesn't happen. It also usually only happens when I am in gear and have the gas pedal pressed, but it can still happens on bumps even if the car is in neutral, the noise is usually much quieter if the car isn't in gear.
I can't tell if the noise is coming from inside or outside of the car, but it seems to be louder inside and I can't hear anything from outside when driving through a parking garage with my windows down.Now this noise first appeared a few days after I got my clutch plate, fly wheel and axles replaced several months ago but I haven't been able to find anything on my own and the shop said they didn't see anything that could be causing it.I have included a recording I took while driving, if you listen its the high pitched squeaking. So far the only thing I have done is checked the sway bar and bushings and those are all in good condition and covered in lube.
I just noticed after I turn the car off the noise that is usually a hum is now a very high pitched noise, until that motor turns off.

All of a sudden today when I turned my car on I noticed a high pitched whirling noise, similar to a tornado siren that gets louder as I accelerated in my parking garage. Even when I turned the car off and on and it sat in park I still noticed it and it got louder as I press on the accelerator. I haven't driven over 20 mph since I noticed this so I'm not sure if it still does it at fast speeds.

View 2 RepliesEver since I got my car about 5/6 months ago I noticed it's not getting full boost. when I first got it the stock boost was getting about 5-7 I don't know if that's normal I've read they normally get more. eventually I got my car tuned and it's supposed to peak at 22 psi but it only got to about 13-14 psi. slowly it's been getting worse and my car is getting 2 psi. I've had lots of people tell me it's a vacuum leak. also the bov makes a flutter noise if that has anything to do with it. my intake doesn't make a sucking in noise like most do. The car has been randomly backfiring usually between gears. I just ordered a turbo inlet pipe a breather hose kit and a boost hose kit.
View 4 RepliesMy wife loves her Mercedes 1999 320CLK. Low mileage (120,000), excellent interior and body condition. One problem. When she turns on the heater there is a very high pitched whistle that gets loud and then slowly tapers off. This repeats from time to time. Randomly there is a sound like a flap/door slamming shut. All sound comes from behind the dash. Also, from the dash behind the steering wheel area you hear a sound kind of like someone squeezing a plastic water bottle - plastic crackling sound. Our mechanic took a look at this and told us that some sort of hose was loose. It was reconnected and things got better for a little while....now its back. Once in a while this happens with the AC.
