View 2 RepliesA family member said that the front ball bearings are bad. This is what is going on; when I am driving and release the gas pedal and/or brake pedal, it jerks. When I am turning, left or right, to park in a parking space, it sounds and feels like the tire is going to break (when turning right to park, right tire; turning in left, left tire). I don't want to get taken advantage of when I go to a mechanic.

Just today i was driving along in my 2.0L golf when I started hearing a rattling coming from under the front end, its a hollow sound that only really is loud when i step off the gas after accelerating, and a faint little rattle when I am idled. I wasn't too bad at first but now its to the pint where i get no exhaust sound coming out of my muffler, currently I have a 2.25" Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system, so I am pretty certain it has to do with probably the resonator or the catalytic converter. Where I can start?
View 2 RepliesI drive a 24v vr6 GTI in 6-speed I was coming home and as I turned and got on the gas a little and all of a sudden there was a pop and my car couldn't go in gear when I release the clutch. Luckily I was close to home and basically cruised in neutral. I jacked it up and found that my axle is twisted. Now I was aware the boots were torn before so I'm assuming the axle got screwed up but my other concern is, why won't my car go in gear? Here's the photo of inner CV. I'm hoping it's just an axle and not the clutch.
View 8 RepliesRecently I noticed that my car (Golf IV TDI 90) starts to release a bad smell from air vents driver side, but it's not all the time knowing that the air conditioning and the ventilation are disabled. odor similar to the first odor released during the activation of the ventilation to disengage the first odor.

I have a '96 2.2L Cavalier with an automatic transmission. The car has about 275,XXX miles on it. Recently, I have been having problems with the transmission. Basically, the transmission doesn't shift unless I release the gas pedal and press down on it again. It always happens around the 20-25 m.p.h. mark. If I don't release the gas, my speed doesn't increase much, i.e. it goes up to about 30 m.p.h. and I hear the engine revving hard. Once I do the gas pedal thing though, it accelerates well.

If I take it apart and manually compress the piston with that rotating clamp that Autozone lent me I can put it back together and use it 2 or 3 times and then it's too tight and I have to take it all apart again. I don't have the cable hooked up, I just move the lever with my hand or a screwdriver.
I'm a little irritated cause I replaced this caliper last year. I remember finding a good description of how this device worked and now I can't find it again.
When I press trunk release button on dash or the trunk button on key, I hear the mechanism but trunk will not pop open. I press the button and pull up on the trunk, it is still latched. The key will not go all the way in lock on trunk, I assume it is seized.
I have sprayed 3 in1 penetrate in lock mechanism. Key still will not go in far. I cannot get back seat down. I am wondering if something got caught in latch that is restricting movement.

so whenever i AM DRIVING AND i go to hit the brakes the car mostly under the hood in the engine jerks abit then smooths into stopping

Whenever I brake hard the steering wheel jerks to the right and the car follows. And it'll stay to the right until I got about third gear or if I shake the wheel back and forth. Not sure what it is. What could cause this? 01 jetta wolfsburg.....
View 8 RepliesI am at a complete loss as to what could be wrong with my 2002 VW Gold Cabrio GLX automatic transmission. In the last month the car has been to 3 different mechanics & none of them could solve this problem. The basic scenario: The car starts up fine. The engine will run & everything works fine (AC, radio lights etc).
If I put the car in Drive or reverse...it will idle & move. However, the moment I touch the gas pedal, whether in reverse or Drive, the car jerks & dies. If I put it in park & try to start it up again, the engine will turn over & the car will start, but the moment I touch that gas pedal again, same thing, jerks & dies.
Things that have been replaced so far: ignition coil, fuel pump, the catalytic converter has been removed. spark plugs replaced. Now they are saying that the problem is electrical & are working with the fuzes & wires. The car ran fine for 3+ years & I've had no problem with it.
Yesterday the mechanic called me & said the car was ready for pick-up. I go over there, pay him, I reverse out of the driveway & the minute I press the gas, it jerks & dies. Is this problem really electrical? Or is this third mechanic also grasping at straws?
I have a 01 vw bora 1.8t and recently I let it sit for one day and now it has trouble starting when it's cold and when it does start it has a very rough idle and often stalls out of you try and press the gas. Once it has warmed up she runs fine. My check engine light is on but I have no way to take her down to a shop to get the codes read. What is wrong with my car? One of my friends told me it could be a cool pack or a sensor.
View 1 RepliesMy 2003 Jetta GLS 1.8T just started doing this... I am not hearing the normal Turbo whistling noise when I give it a lot of gas, however I now hear a squealing noise. Sounds similar to a loose belt kinda whining/squealing. I do not hear this at any other time, only when accelerating quickly.

View 10 RepliesSo the window switches and hatch release switch have decided they want to stop working. Along with actually locking my car from the inside or keyfob. I have checked all the fuses and the wiring looks to be intact. The hatch release switch doesn't work but the fuel door switch Does work. The passenger side window switch also isn't working and of course both Windows are down.
View 6 RepliesMkIV 2.0 ... My 4th cylinder will occasionally misfire if I release the clutch at too high of a rev. It is intermittent but happens if I do a burn out or something. How to fix this other then stop doing burn outs and such.
View 2 RepliesIt is difficult to explain (and google) but my 1.4 16V Golf 4 does this sometimes: while driving at a steady speed car jerks for a moment and revs drop quite much, a moment later it is fine. It feels like I had stepped on the brakes, but when I actually try that the revs won't drop as much. Like my engine seizes up for a fraction of a second but there is no noise. It has done that actually for 3 years, but it was really rare, about twice a year, but now I have had those jerks three days in a row.
View 3 Replies VWVortex, so I've had some issues with my MK4 recently (go figure). It started with steering wheel getting intermittent and random jerks to the right after driving for about 20 minutes on the highway at any speed any gear but only at around 1/6 throttle. I needed to do front end maintenance anyway, so I replaced both complete LCA's with ECS Tuning's ply ones, went stage 2 BFI engine mounts, stage 2 BFI dogbone mount, both ball joints, both tie rods ends, both axles, and an alignment.
Now I'm getting a shimmy in the steering wheel starting at ~80mph. I know my wheels are slightly bent and are being replaced in the summer when the weather is warmer, but it wasn't doing this same shimmy prior to all this. Just the jerking. Could it be they messed up on the alignment? Its really getting on my nerves considering I've dumped a lot of money trying to fix this problem just to have something else pop up.
Yesterday i removed my bumper and unhooked my battery and reinstalled it a few hours later. Now have a "Stop Engine Press Top" error on the screen and the oil light is flashing. I also noticed that the oil temp gauge is not moving.
