I just recently purchased a 2000 mk4 GTI and as stated above, the radio turns and all the buttons work but there is no sound. The amp in the back was removed and there are two clips that are not hooked up to anything. I am wondering if the radio needs the amp hooked up for it to work at all.
View 1 RepliesI bought a 2000 Jetta without a radio in it. I recently purchased a radio from Crutchfield and wired it according to the schematic and connector cross over guide. The radio is on and I can go through its functions but there is no sound. I tried connecting a AAA battery to each of the speakers, via the radio connector, and no sound. I believe this was not a Monsoon system. The connectors on the car do not fit in Monsoon and are Brown, Black, and the third is Blue / Green. What I could do to resolve it?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Jetta TDI, with an aftermarket radio, which was professionally installed about 3 years ago. never given me problems till recent.
After driving i turn off car and all is normal, except frequently i can come back within an hour or two and find that the radio illumination is on, and that i can no longer turn the radio on (with or without key turned on). i also cannot turn off the radio. i say turn off because while it is in this odd mode i can plug in my iphone and it will charge and play music as if through headphones, it is also powering up my amp while in this mode. If i pull fuse 42 it resets and all is good.
I have not noticed any problems while driving or when radio is ON normal
I have swapped out the radio with another identical radio and it is still doing the exact same thing.
2001 Golf with A/T. 130,000 miles. Daughter went to turn key, heard a "snap" sound, car wouldn't start...no "click" from any electrical contact, starter apparently not getting any "juice". key now turns in switch too easily...can't feel the usually resistance when turning key. Key fob works, steering wheel turnable, can move trans lever out of "Park" into all positions with foot on brake. Broken key cylinder, or some link to ignition switch? Car at repair shop, waiting it's turn.
View 3 RepliesI recently changed my starter and disconnected the battery and tried using a memory saver connected to the cigarette lighter socket with a 9v, but after I got the car back on there's no sound coming from the radio. Comes on no problem, but no sound at all in tuner, bluetooth, or cd mode. This is also an aftermarket radio and I have disconnected the battery plenty of times before and never had this problem.
This is the first time I used a memory saver though, so not sure if that had something to do with it.
My passenger side has been making thud noises on a number of occasions on my 01 Jetta 1.8t:
1. When I go over bumps, the front passenger side will make a loud thud noise.
2. When I take my foot off the brake, there will be a loud thud from the front passenger side as well.
3. When making left hand turns and I begin to turn the wheel back to return it to its original position, there is a thud coming from the front passenger side as well.
It does not continuously click like a bad CV joint would. All these symptoms came at the same time period.
Just installed raxle on my driver side. All clicking sounds are fixed but I noticed if I take right turns sometimes you can hear a constant clunking sound coming from the driver side wheel. It doesn't happen all the time, you kinda have to turn and hit a certain angle of the steering wheel. Also, only happens when driving low, if I raise the car just a little bit its gone. Never had issues with my oem axle binding so Im not sure how exactly does the binding sound?
View 24 RepliesMy 2000 Jetta GLS is producing a clunking/knocking sound from the front end (possibly left-front) ONLY while coasting and going straight. It mostly goes away if I turn left or right and totally goes away when I give the wheels engine power or when I brake.
I recently replaced my front-left control arm due to a thrashed rear bushing. I didn't replace the bearing as I didn't have a pickle fork. Not sure if this is related.
Ever since I bought my 2000 mk4 golf I've had this super loud hissing noise coming from the bottom of the car. Almost like someone is spraying compressed air when your foot is on the throttle. Sound gets louder the more you depress the pedal. Had a catalytic converter code so after a few months I bought a new cat, welded it on, and the sound fairly went away. Still present, now months later the sound is now a bit louder but It's gotten on my last nerve, I want to fix it but I can't seem to figure out what that noise is.
Almost sounds like my car is a classic beetle by the way it accelerate at times. The car is sort of sluggish than normal at times, no codes, no lights, sometimes peeling out in 1st gear the car hesitates like I have regular power, then I have this sudden burst of 1 second power then back to normal until I shift then I never feel it again until I'm back in 1st and WOT it. Car does smell like gas a little sometimes, not too prevalent but nonetheless noticeable especially going in reverse. My gas meter seemed to fluctuate at times, I may have a bad pump maybe, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I have a 2000 MK4 Jetta GLS that's had a clicking noise in one spot whenever I rock the steering wheel left-to-right or right-to-left. It's noticeable while stopped or at low-speed and seems to be in one particular "sweet spot." I've had the tie rod ends changed, with no improvement. It seems obvious that it's some kind of linkage or joint that's worn out, but I'm just not familiar enough with the steering system on these cars to know where to look. I thought maybe a bad CV joint, but they usually click when the wheels are turning, not when the steering wheel is being rotated, and they don't usually go on clicking for a year without wearing out.
View 3 RepliesIgnition turns over, but no sound. There is power to lights, radio, etc. Tried a boost, thinking it was battery, but the boost was unsuccessful. Tried using the spare key but that was also unsuccessful.
The tow driver said it sounded like a fuse or clutch safety sensor. I also heard that it could be the battery leads. We're fairly new at fixing the car ourselves, learning as we go, so not knowing some otherwise basic things, like how to clean and tighten battery leads, what fuse to change, or what the heck a clutch safety sensor is.
I just had lots of work done on my car, and since then the Hyundai radio (HM5064) is not working. I thought I just needed to put the radio code in again, but when I went to do that today, all the LEDS are showing for the stations, time, Cd etc.There is just no sound.
View 5 RepliesSo i just recently purchased this car and about two weeks in I CEL turns on and the car just doesn't seem to drive like it did when i first brought it home. I don't know much about forced induction cars but the from watching the boost gauge, it seems to flutter when accelerating and just doesn't pick up like it should i feel. First thing I could think of is a boost leak but like I said, don't know anything about these cars.
View 3 RepliesMy car has been sitting for three days and I went to start it and it turns over but doesn't even try to fire. If i press the gas while it's turning over, it doesn't change at all. Do any of you know what could be causing that?
yes I searched and it turned back nothing, so if there is already a thread, could you point me in that direction?
Also, the car previously had a tick on start up for about 30 seconds and then it would disappear, that doesn't seem related to the no cranking thing to me though. The only other strange thing that happened was a week ago when the car dumped an unusual amount of smoke as if it blew a head gasket... but it didn't, and nothing has happened since then until now.
The car used to do frequent trips of 15 or 20 miles at a time every day but now it does 5 or 6 miles every few days and then 300 miles at 80mph each way once a month, so I don't know if the constant 3800 rpms on the long trips could be having some sort of affecting this
I have a 120k miles manual 2000 jetta vr6 12v. I was having check engine issues so i put in a reader and showed me problems at catalytic converter. I don't remember the code, and no longer have a reader...
I was told to replace the oxygen sensors in both banks as well which i did.
I opened up catalytic converter to inspect and now the car will get no spark, the engine turns, and the display shows engine stop.
I was also told to put the oxygen sensor further away with an extension cord but not sure if that plays a part.
Does the catalytic converter is causing it to not spark?
Could there be an issue with maybe a sensor at the crankshaft that checks for motion?
What the starting sequence and dependencies are or what failures I could have that prevent the spark?
I have a weird problem. Sometimes when i slow down to make a turn or stop at a stop sign my car just dies...that's it...it just turns off...but i turn the key and it starts right back up...the weird part is that i've had the car for a year and it only does it about once a month??? I took it to the dealer and...big surprise...they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it...it doesn't turn off while I'm driving on the highway or anything...only does it when i slow down to make a sharp turn or when i stop at a stop sign and go again... I might just trade it in for an Audi A4. I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8t...
View 24 RepliesI have a 2001 Golf 1.8T and while driving the oil pressure light turns on and the meter goes beyond the midpoint. I brought it in to a shop and they told me I need to change the oil pump and will cost $900. They told me it's because I don't frequently change oil and once the new oil is in, it caused the problem and only way to drive the car again is to replace the oil pump.

I have a '99' 2.0 Golf. The engine turns over but it wont start. I bought new fuel pump and crank sensor. that still didn't fix the issues. I also am not getting any fault codes so I am really at a lost, when car died on me the engine stalled as if i missed the clutch, ever since i haven't been able to get it on, i also bought a new battery.
View 2 RepliesI recently replaced my driver side axle due to the inner CV joint boot being ripped. Its a 2001 Jetta VR6 with 173,000 miles on it and I have been driving it with a ripped boot for about a year and finally decided to replace the whole axle last night. I replaced it with an aftermarket axle (was on a budget) and the job was fairly easy. Since I did it late at night I was too tired to take it for a test drive so I waited until today. When I was driving it all was well until I took a right turn and I could hear a very distinct clicking sound coming from the driver side wheel well, it is constant throughout the turn.
The noise is only present when taking turns above 20mph and it sometimes even occurs when driving in a straight line. Take note that I have not had an alignment done yet since I had replaced the axle. The car is lowered about 2 inches on Raceland coil-overs that are pretty old and I think they are shot. But like I said the car has NEVER made this sound until I just recently replaced the axle. I am at a loss of what it could be and I am trying to sell the car currently so I would like to get this problem sorted out as soon as possible!
