2000 Jetta (build date 10/99) 2.8L V6
Pours out heavy black smoke.
New Air Cleaner, pulled plugs, all smell of gasoline, they don't look black, like I normally would expect gas fouled plugs to look. I read that these are prone to clogged fuel injectors? If so, all 6 at once? Also told that the timing slipping can cause this.
12v VR6. Have smoke pouring out of the back here. The coolant is really hot but its not smoking from the reservoir. In the second picture you can see a liquid its that brown green stuff. It is fresh and wet not a stain. Also in the third pick there is some of that around the sparkplug wire. Also smells burnt.
The oil in the dipstick isn't milky like a blown headgasket would. However the oil inside the oil cap is a very dark brown. What is it? I'm thinking head gasket but this is my only lead.
I have an 02 jetta 1.8t just recently put oil in it and it's now pouring white smoke at idle and right around when I'm in 3rd. When parked and running it's puking oil and I have oil sprayed all in the engine bay. I have it sitting now and there's still a drip.
View 2 RepliesWhen I'm driving sometimes it will pour black smoke and make no boost, and then the next time I get on the throttle it goes make to making boost like normal. It has the following thing done in the last 50k. I have a 2006 f-250 lariat FX4 it has the following mods:
EGR delete,
Powermax Turbo,
Rudy's Diesel Up Pipe,
4" Turbo Back Muffler Delete,
New For Injectors,
Blue Spring mod,
Gear Head Tune,
S&B Elbow And S&B Cold air kit
2005 6.0l PSD. Driving flat road pulling 8K trailer. Not pushing it at all. Sudden air hissing sound on (seems like) passenger side of truck. Black smoke pouring from tailpipe. Check intercooler pipe and is ok. Can't see anything that is loose. Only 8 miles to the campground so limp down the road at 30 MPH which is all it will do. Hissing sound is remarkable predictable in that it is repetitive every 5 seconds or so. Lasts for maybe 2 seconds then stops the repeats.
There is no turbo boost either on the dash gauge or the Scan II gauge. Shutting the engine down, there is no turbo wind down. Scan II show no codes. Check everything I can reach and find nothing extraordinary. Tried starting a driving it today and had boost for a minute only then nothing. Blowing white smoke too. Check the oil and it is oil. Check the radiator fluid and it is oil free. Running low on fuel and wonder if I have a water in the fuel problem. However, don't think that should effect the non functioning turbo...
I got my 2.0 turbo project up and running. no CEL but i did have a bad o2 code but it was erased and didn't come back.
Not only is it rough idle and smoking out the exhaust but i am also getting smoke out of my catch can vent.
The smoke looks black coming out of the tailpipe but little blue after it gets out a ways from the car. Where to look??
I did just replace a piston and install a head gasket spacer. I don't know if that could be causing it some and it will go away with some driving or what?
I have not taken it out on the road as I have some brake work to finish. so mostly it idled.

a little history here, about 2 years ago I got my first P401 so I changed the egr valve and it went away for a little while. Then I came back several months later and changed it again. along with the P401 I get heavy black smoke when taking off from a dead stop and after it gets a little speed it will run good. Here lately it seems I can only get 2 weeks to a month between cleaning the EGR valve.
Each time I clean it has a bb size piece of carbon stuck and is holding the valve open and there are several more under the EGR valve. each time I try to vacuum the carbon chunks out and clean everything as best I can. As of now I'm fed up with it and would like to do something to make it more reliable. would taking the intake off and cleaning completely and adding a EGR delete kit eliminate the carbon from building up?
So i just spent over $1700 at a vw service ctr having a sched 140k timing belt replaced with thermo and fuel filter. This was 3 days ago and when i picked it up it was slower to turn over then got worse and todsy it won't turn over at all even when jumped. It cranks and blows black smoke. Problem is i'm 160 miles from that svc center and it's sunday. There is a vw svc center 14 miles away but i feel like it needs to ho back to where the work was done because it ran great before taking it there.
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2003 Vw Gti 1.8t ... What to do or look for when something goes wrong . About a two months after driving it, it won't idle and it shuts off while in Neutral . I've done my research and i believe he didn't install the BOV in right, only bc it is not recirculates the air. Make sense? Is there ANYTHING i can do so it will run better and idle?

View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 toyota corolla, with 1.8 16 valve. 105,000 miles, manual trans.. Just bought this veh. says misfire cylinder 4. So here is what I have done.
I started trouble shooting. swapping coils from cylinder 4 to other cylinders to see if the code follows after clearing it. No, stayed at 4..
So I moved on to the fuel injector. I did the same thing to see if it followed.. no stayed at cylinder 4. I changed the plugs, stilll misfire..
I did a compression check, I have 170 on 1,2,3, and on cylinder 4 I have 0. Yep, none...
I have some black smoke when the car is under load, as in acceleration, shaking and constant miss. lack of power... Trying to determine whether it is the rings or valves or what.. I took valve cover off and checked for broken spring, and they all seem ok. No oil in my coolant or vise versa.
I have a 2000 E350 15 passenger Ford Van with 125,000 miles on it. I am burning a quart every 500 miles. The van produces a cloud of black smoke occasionally when I start it. Maybe once every 10 starts or so. It seems to be more prevalent when the van is parked with the engine downhill. About a year ago, I switched to high mileage oil. Could this be part of the problem? Or is there anything other than a rebuilt engine that will work?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 vw Gti vr6. It leaks coolant smokes and starts to over heat when idling. Does fine when driving down the road. It has a new radiator. When pressure tested I can see a little stream of coolant coming out. But there's no space in the engine bay and I can't see exactly where it's coming from. Like I said it only happens when it's Idling for an extended period of time. It does fine going down the road.
View 3 RepliesI've been told by friends driving behind me that every time I accelerate I emit a plume of black smoke followed by a stream of black colored "water". I checked today by having the wife rev the engine to 4.5k...sure enough, black water shoots out of my exhaust, probably 3 oz. I also see a black puff of smoke which I assume is more normal than the water. Is this commonplace ?
View 2 RepliesI got 2000 tdi with 270000km on it and have a few issues with it and am looking for some information before i start doing some work to it.
First problem excessive blue smoke on start up also runs ruff tell it warms up.
Second the is a screeching noise on start up some times. happens most of the time when the car is cold.
Third sounds like something is dragging or rattling but i have checked and there is i can see.
Fourth when the clutch is in and the brake is on the car runs ruff at idle. i think it has something to do with vacuum used for the brake booster but not sure.
Ok I'm working on a 2000 7.3 on a F550 truck was running but had no power so we changed out all the injectors and glow plugs and rebuilt the turbo now there is no start it turns over and were getting black smoke from the tail pipe. What is going on with it?
View 2 RepliesComing home, doing 50 or so in traffic. R has been feeling bogged down when shifting from 1st to 2nd and it would start around 2K. Felt like someone would tug on the R, holding it back. Driving along, don't hear a pop or loud sound, just a poof of blk smoke then a TON of white smoke.
I limp my way to a parking lot and let it sit. I call the wife as I'm 6 miles from home. I'm thinking blown head gasket or something else. I call Benji at NGP Racing and explain to him what happened. He said if it was the HG that there would be a milky look to the coolant. Checked and nope.
I start the R and let it idle and it seems fine. The wife gets there and follows me back home. Still feels bogged down as described above. At one point a huge plume of thick blk smoke comes out of the rear. she said enough that she couldnt see the R.
Last night I checked the oil, seemed low in the dim light. I know my fault. I put in 3 quarts. Looked at the exhaust tips and they are blk. I mean you can see oil down into the pipes. Noticed some oil had been leaking from the aftermarket oil cap that doesnt seal as good as the OEM I take it.

My VW Golf TDI 2000 has 236,000 miles on it. The other day my husband jumped on the accelerator to merge onto the freeway, and it let out a huge black cloud of smoke. Wow, we thought. Weird. Impressive. Uh oh. Then we realized it was making HUGE diesel engine noises, which just got louder by the next day. Windows down, you can't hear yourself think. It also won't accelerate past 50 mph. We've spent so much money and time fixing this car. Would love to know what might be wrong this time. Just moved, no trusted mechanics who we can call. Might we have to donate it to public radio and just be done with it? Or something my husband can repair with the manual?

View 8 RepliesWhile driving my 2011 Elantra a few minutes ago I just heard a moderate noise much like I had just driven over an empty pop can. Then white/ grey smoke started pouring out of my exhaust to the point I couldn't see the cars behind me. Just had 15000 mile maintenance about two weeks ago. My hubby has a lot of knowledge regarding older vehicles but says he's never seen anything like it before!
View 13 RepliesI have a 2003 F150 with a 4.6. Exhaust is pouring out white smoke with a sweet smell. I have replaced upper and lower intake gaskets. Compression test on all cylinders are at 145. Confused and don't know where to go from here.
