My 2000 GTI VR6 has been sitting around for a while (since Oct/Nov 2013). Now the car wont turn on. Dash lights up, and no clicking noise of dead battery (actually just put in a new battery). Makes those noises when turning on, but engine never gets going.
What should I check? Battery terminals seem fine. Coilpack? Corroded terminals somewhere else?
My 2004 1.8T GTI is having a weird issue. It's had 3 coolant leaks in the past 3 months. Every time I get one leak fixed it goes leak free for a couple weeks, but then a new leak pops up in a new place.
First leak was a cracked coolant bottle. Second was a flange near the bottle on passenger side. The newest leak is on the driver side. Car hasn't ever overheated.
I have a 2001 honda civic. Its been sitting for a few months, and now it won't start. The battery is fine (radio, lights come on just fine). It tries to turn ( kinda does a "wrr wrr" sound) and stops, and then it makes a clicking sound. What do I do? I was thinking about using starter fluid to get it start.

View 5 RepliesCar ran great prior to sitting for 4 months. Tried to jump it and it wouldn't turn over, so i figure the battery was dead. I replaced the batter with a new one, had fresh fuel added.
I then thought perhaps it might be the started, so I removed it and had it tested and it passed (it's working). Car still wont crank. I turn the key and there is nothing not a sound, except the fuel pump. No crank nor click? Not sure where to go from here?
I recently parked my f-350 dually on a 15degree slope during a rainy period about 2 months ago. I went in recently to start it and it would'nt start. I replaced the two batteries in my attempt. I turn on the key in the on position, wait for the "Wait for Start" light to turn off, then it cranks really fast , then slows down and it won't start. Tried to take off the fuel filter but is there a special tool to take the cover off. It started real fine prior to this. Also I put in 5 gallons of diesel .
View 14 RepliesMy girlfriend's mk4 Jetta is having some sort of electrical issue and she's about ready to sell it. It keeps going dead after sitting. We got her a new battery a few months ago after she bought the car because it kept going dead. So it ran fine for a bit then started doing it again. Tested alternator, checks out, tested battery, bad battery, took it to local vw specialist, they confirmed bad battery, so two weeks ago, we had a new battery put in. Ran fine for a week then started going dead again. All lights turn on, just a weird clicking noise coming from inside the cabin. She also has an hid kit in it that was just redone by a different shop here. 1.8t motor.
View 2 RepliesSo to start off, I own a 2000 golf gls 2.0 it's got 182000 miles on it ... My rpm gauge does some thing weird intermittently. I have an exhaust on it so that's how I know this is happening.
I'll be sitting in traffic, idling, and all of a sudden my rpms go from ~900 to ~700. I start going and I shift into second and as I'm shifting the rpms fall really quickly and if I let it fall all the way it doesn't stop falling at 900 like it usually does. It goes all the way down to ~300rpms and bounces back up to 700. When it gets down to 300 the car starts shaking like it's going to stall and it barely catches itself.
What would cause and how to fix my Jetta. It will idle at almost 10 rpm sitting still? It also sputters as if trying to die. It has an after market air intake with a ktm air filter
View 4 RepliesI have a 04 jetta 1.8t that just randomly started having some overheating issues. I just got the car two days ago, and the first day I had it I replaces the coolant temp sensor due to a check engine light. Drove 50 miles and the light shut off. Just yesterday I was sitting in traffic and noticed the temp going above 190 (which it hadn't done in the 200 miles id driven it so far). I brought it home and once I was out of traffic and moving along the temp went right back down to 190. The only time it tries to overheat is when its sitting still or at idle (after reaching operating temp). which is weird.
I was parked in my driveway and let it sit at idle for a few minutes until the temp started significantly rising. i revved it to 2000 rpm (thinking it would rise even more), but to my surprise it instantly went down to 190 again. my big fan isnt running either, but my friend said he doesn't run fans in his and that it shouldn't overheat because of the fan. also, my top hose is warm to the touch, but the bottom isn't. I know your thinking thermostat, but if that was the problem it would :
1: always overheat, or
2: never overheat.
The temp wouldn't fluctuate the way it is.
I purchased a 1999.5 Jetta VR6. The guy who owned it said he lost the key, had a new one cut, but not programmed. It started and ran fine with the new key for about 2-4 minutes. He was driving it, it ran perfect, and just shut off. It cranked and never fired.
It's been sitting for maybe a month. I put a brand new battery in it, tried the key. It cranks, will not fire. The sound of it cranking sounds a little off, like low compression or something. Could this be from the key, or does it sound like something else? I'm not sure how an uncoded key would react. I'm towing it to the dealer to have the keys programmed, but I'm trying to think of what else it could be. I was going to check spark or fuel, but I'm not sure what the immobilizer does to make the car not run.
I replaced the coilpack from the dealer last Summer. It got better as it wouldn't even start for a while after it finished raining. However it has still been finicky even after replacing it. Which brings me to the realization that water runs down the fender panel and ends up on the ground cable located under and to the right of the battery. Am I correct that this would cause the same symptom as a bad coil pack? It seems simple...move the cable right? However should water be doing that? Cause this little sucker is not stopping anything. Just need validation I guess...get new hood insert?
View 5 RepliesMy Gti has been sitting in my driveway unused for a couple months now. The condensation in it has been unusually heavy when parked. The carpet is dry, doesn't smell damp inside, no coolant smell. Windshield was replaced 2year ago never had a prob with it so idk if it's that that's leaking, but what would the signs of that be? But what I really think it could be is that my recirculating flap is stuck closed. Could that be it?
View 9 RepliesThis only happens once or twice a week. After driving the car for 20+ minutes and sitting in the driveway, it will start running hot. I'd say around 230 degrees and it will stay there until I start driving the car again. I made sure the fans work and I also checked the coolant level and both are fine. What could be causing this issue?

And also when I'm sitting at a stop light it will jerk forward like it wants to go. I've tried a few things like cv axels and some other things but I'm just hoping it's not the tranny.
View 9 RepliesI noticed today that when im sitting still and i turn the wheel the car raises up a noticable amount in the front on the passenger side, Im not sure if the drivers side was moving or not. I have never noticed this before but maybe i just wasn't paying attention? FYI I have coilovers, I'm not sure that matters or not.
View 5 RepliesJust replaced the door lock up/down on a 2001 golf. After getting the door all back together I pulled the door open and the door handle popped out slightly at both ends. What happened? It now wont reset into the door flush like before.

I bought a 2005 Jetta GLI a couple of months ago and from the first day I noticed that occasionally when I would lock it with the alarm, the right turn signal would stay on. It was not much of a problem as I would just press the lock on the remote again a couple of times to turn it off. Lately it has become more frequent and annoying. I have to wait up to an hour so I can finally turn it off through the remote. I was thinking the relay probably.
View 15 Repliesi got this 24v vr6 that wont turn over. I've been rebuilding the whole exterior and verifying that everything looks intact. Here's what I've done to it so far when it did run:
- replaced snapped serp belt and new tensioner
- had a recently new starter
- apparently the alternator is somewhat new
- new coilpacks for all cylinders and spark plugs cause they really needed it
There is 11.90 v for the battery but if i try to turn it over a few times it feels like the battery is practically dying. I am thinking it may be an issue with the alternator so I even grabbed some jumper cables and it was better but still no start. I don't think its the ignition switch because it actually cranks. my only fear is the wiring harness is in rough shape all the way around the car. Maybe a bad MAF sensor?
My car will turn over but not start. I have thought about it being a bad ignition switch because that is what solved a similar problem on my mk2. My concern is that I don't have any of the other symptoms of a bad ignition switch such as lights going out and things like that. I can either push start my car or if I leave my key in the ignition turned half way on the car will start after sitting for about 15 minutes.
View 1 RepliesI have a '01 Jetta VR6 that wont start. Turn the ignition, all lights/radio work, 12.2 volts at battery 11.4 volts at solenoid and it doesnt even click. Replaced the starter, same thing. Have checked all fuses, everything looks good. Jumper from the solenoid to the battery and the car starts. Thoughts?
