So when I shift from 2nd to 3rd I hear, for lack of a better word, a 'whistle' type noise while shifting. It sounds like its coming from inside the car under the shifter.
View 1 RepliesMy Jaguar X-Type has a 5-speed manual transmission, and when I am driving and shift up, sometimes it starts jerking pretty violently like it might be slipping out of gear, and I have to shift into another gear to get it to stop. It seems to be exacerbated if I am accelerating. I can always get it to stop by shifting, but am afraid at some point that it will not slip into another gear and I'll be stranded. I had a mechanic look at it but he has no idea what is causing the problem and I don't want to pay for multiple repairs that may or may not fix the problem! The car's got about 125,000 miles.

Recently, I've noticed a sound coming from the passenger side when stopped at lights or when I've just parked. Best description would be a bit like a crackle (liquidy/whistly type of sound). Only happens when the A/C/defogger is on.
It's not very noticeable, I only hear it when I don't have the radio on, but it's been bothering me. I found a few posts about a rattle, but from what I can remember, it's not really a rattle.
Sometimes when I shift from first to second and second to third I hear a clanking noise coming from under the car. It happens when I move the stick and clutch pedal is fully depressed. Doesn't happen all the time and doesn't happen in gears 4-6. Something I should be worried about? Car is stock and has about 1k miles. It's been doing this since I bought it.
Also get a deeper boom noise coming from back sometimes when depressing clutch petal when under boost. Think this is normal tho? My BMW used to do the same thing.
I have the mods listed below in my signature. When I shift gear and have almost completely released the clutch to move up into the next gear I get a clicking noise and feel from my transmission I think or maybe differential. This is with traction control off and is only noticeable at lower rpms like a low rpm shift from 1st into second.
View 7 RepliesFor a few months now I have been hearing a tap clunk type noise coming from under the car when I shift the auto trans into drive and reverse. Also sometimes when the car is slowing when driving I hear the tap sound as it shifts into first. I drove in by my local dealer and they listened to it and said Elantra transmissions can get noisy there is nothing wrong. They told me I have plenty of Warranty left so if something happens I will be covered.
View 2 RepliesI bought a new corolla 2009, automatic transmission (Not Robotic!) From the first day, when shifting from first to second gear the car makes an unnatural noise, like a whistle or a whine. (during shifting and sometimes a little bit before).
It only happens in the transition from first to second. It does not depend on the RPM at the moment. When the engine is cold, in the morning, the sound is still there, but weaker, when the engine warms up, the sound keeps appearing for the rest of the day. (I live in a country with a hot climate)
I have been told, 2009 model has the same transmission just as previous models, is it true? or there have been some changes in it?
So I picked up a 20th today. The clutch has 30k on it its an oem luk. Drove fine most of the ride home then i went to shift and it wouldn't grab. Got it towed home. trans goes into all gears fine. When you put it in first and try to go it starts to roll but just makes a grinding type noise and doesnt go into gear. I didn't hear any chatter until maybe 10 miles before this happened. I still have pressure in the clutch pedal as well. when the car is in neutral running there isnt any noise which makes me think it isnt the throw out bearing.
View 2 RepliesSo i was trying to adjust my freinds shift linkage on his o2j and i got a little ahead of myself and forgot to put the shift tower in the home position before making the adjustment. after i realized you can't shift into second ( either that or 2nd and 4th are extremely close together now and feel like the same gear ). I try to get it in home position even with the cables off ( did this for experimentation) and still wouldn't go into home position...meh. still have all the other gears including reverse .
View 4 RepliesI've been all over the place trying to get this pulley sounding noise figured out. the noise is definitely not the pulley, but is coming from that side, and from underneath the engined towards the back. this noise only occurs when car has been driven at least 30 minutes to an hour from first start of the day, but then continues the rest of the day. the noise also only occurs when I am coming to a stop or just rolling at a low idle, and then only lasts for about 30 seconds and goes always until i give it so gas and the noise comes back.
I know its sounds a lot like PVC, but i have had all that checked and actually pvc replaced. Took it to another VW dealer, and they charged me for diagnostics, and came up with it the noise was coming from somewhere in the clutch, and want to replace the whole clutch, that was just replaced by them 20,000 miles ago. You would think if was coming from the clutch it would make the noise at all times. Do you think it could be the clutch in any way?
So I have an odd whistle noise, when I give it a little gas it makes a faint whistle noise. Only happens on acceleration with a little gas, I don't think it's the turbo.

The problem: Very hard to get a smooth shift from gear to gear. Trust me, I know how to drive, but I can always feel the car shifting into a different gear if you know what I'm saying. On my friend's bone stock Jetta, I just let the clutch out without gas in between shifts and you don't feel a thing.
On my car, you feel EVERYTHING. People have told me the light flywheel will make the ride more uncomfortable in many ways, especially since the RPMs drop much quicker in between shifts than stock.
Started a few days ago, There is a faint whistle noise when I am open throttle around 2500rpms. It lasts for about a second and does not occur at any other time. It does not occur under gradual acceleration, or when the car is parked/in neutral and just revving. I tried searching the forums *a little* bit, but my keywords just may have not been right.
My first inkling is that it may be related to flapper, since the rpms seem right and sounds vacuum related to me. But, the unit is completely disconnected (have borla cat-back) and the hose is ziptied, so is this possible? I will try to get a video of the noise later today.
The first thing is that suddenly there's a clunk type noise from the transmission when shifting in to or out of 2/3/4. Also, when I'm in one of those gears, letting off the throttle and then re-applying lightly causes the clunk noise. However, I haven't noticed any actual performance difference, just the new noise. It's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio at a reasonable volume, and it may or may not be my imagination but I think I can feel it through the floor of the car.
The next thing is that in the mornings, the car seems to have trouble getting in to gear from a stop. So I'll pull up to a light, then stop, and if I take off the brake and get immediately on the throttle, the car will lurch pretty bad, even if it's only a little throttle. I've found that if I let off the brake, and wait specifically to hear/feel the transmission kick in, there's no lurch and everything is fine.
Also, on that same note, sometimes when I let off the brake at these times, the car nearly stalls. It hasn't stalled yet but it's felt close a few times.
As well, from a cold start, there is what feels like an absolute ton of engine braking in second gear, I can feel the car pulling back immediately after I let off the throttle, and this seems strange and new as well.
I've been hearing a loud whining type or sucking noise out of my engine bay every time i give gas its louder then my exhaust almost when coming to complete stock .. Its been happening since i bought the car at 50k now it has 79k .. should i be concern or how can i fix it.
View 4 RepliesOK, when I first got the car in June it needed strut mounts so I got the 034's and new bearings and all was good, recently I noticed just a creaking/knocking type noise, not the same as before. So I checked the bolts on the mounts just in case and they are good. Been reading lately about the subframe and it is leading me to believe that may be it. The noise is more noticeable at slower speeds when just going over slight road imperfections(like small dips) and sometimes I do not hear it at all even over rough roads?

View 3 RepliesIt makes a weird 'fppp' air shooting noise before the exhaust note and my 2003 gti vr6 makes the exact same noise. It sounds like it's coming from the intake manifold valve and not really the filter, but I'm not sure and yes my filter is clean, the noise also sounds a little bit more obnoxious and problematic in real life. What it is, I thought it was a vacuum leak but I don't wanna bring it in till i know exactly what it is,

I often found myself in a situation where the speed and the rpm of the car is too low for 2nd gear, and when I try to shift to first, it would't let me, unless I almost come to a complete stop....
I tried to press the clutch all the way in, then rev up the rpm, then release the clutch, but it doesn't work much, the car still jerks...
So, in the last month or so I have been having trouble getting the car to go into second gear when mashing the go pedal. I have to try several times and seems to be that the car has to unload and then it will shift.
I am using the DG shifter and have been for 30k+ miles and I have the red HPA dogbone insert. The shift has not been a problem up until the last month or two.
Is it time for motor mounts?
