Golf/GTI VII :: Turning On Interior Fan When Idling, Increased RPM
Jul 23, 2015
Quick question, on my 2015 GTI, if I turn just the interior fan on (no A/C) when idling, it increases the engine RPM by 100 RPM.

View 18 RepliesHave an increase of coolant usage after APR flash??? Coolant levels were never an issue until post stage 1 flash, conservative driver here, open it up very rarely.
I love the software its a totally different car post flashing, but just curious if this is a common issue or if there should be any concerns involving this issue...
After the very hard runs up in the mountains at SoWo, I've began to experience some engine movement when the car shifts at low speeds, i.e. stop and go traffic. At its worst, I've experienced a clicking or almost grinding-like sound sound when said engine movement (during the low speed shifting/accelerating/stopping) takes place. These noises tend to come and go. They were really bad at one point on the ride home - when an accident in Atlanta brought traffic to an almost standstill and we were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Today however, no noise at all.
I took a quick look under the car and my HPA core mount (which I thought may have completely fallen out for some reason ) is still there. I haven't jacked the car up yet to get under it or put it up on a lift but considering the symptoms, I have reason to believe my OEM pendulum mount may be damaged, or that the pendulum bolts may have come loose after the very spirited driving in Helen.
At high speeds, there is no sound and no (apparent or noticeable) increase in engine movement.
[URL] .... This thread in the MKIV R forum is closest to the symptoms I'm experiencing.
I own a MK4 GTI with 182000km on it, I am experiencing some much louder than usual road noise. The noise is only present between 50kph and about 115kph, when I go faster than that the noise seems to attenuate.
I took the car in, it was put onto the hoist and the noise is not coming from the front (we ran it on the stand, but the noise did not seem to be present when revved up to the speed mentioned above). That leads me to believe that the noise could be coming from the tires or from the back assembly. I am going to be putting on my winter tires here soon so that should rule out the tires.
Have a 2011 Sonatas. Recently the interior lights won't turn off or dim and go off when the door closes.
View 9 RepliesI just got myself 07 santa fe. Have small problem though. When I open the door interior lights are not going on, doesn't matter which door are open it is not working but I can turn them on manually, so fuse is fine I guess. What my be a cause of it?
View 16 RepliesMy wife has been driving this Escape for about a year after driving one she inherited from her father to 162K miles. This one has just under 70K now.
In the last month or so, the interior lights have begun to come on and go off at will. It can happen going down the road, or sitting in the garage for hours. When it's running, the door chime may or may not sound. It sometimes comes on when it hits a bump, sometimes without one. I looked at it earlier, and the light was on. (I have turned the center one off. I don't see a way to turn off the front ones) An hour later the light is off. No one has been in the car since this afternoon.
She says the car is haunted, and is now calling it Casper, even though it's solid black.
I have tried the standard fix of lubricating the door latches several times. There are six latches including the rear hatch and rear window. I have used CRC electrical cleaner as well as subsequent doses of good old WD 40. I don't know if there is an easy why to tell which switch might be causing the problem, so I have taken the shotgun approach.
The two remaining bulbs are tiny, so the battery has not run completely down, YET. The car is driven almost daily, sometimes several times in a day. I'm beginning to think that the situation may not be caused by one of the door switches. What else can it be? Why does it cycle like that? I doubt that it's haunted.
It's that horrible sound when you first turn the key. Those few beeps. Or it's the same sound if the car's turned on and you open the driver's door. That beeping sound! I'll just be driving down the street or highway and it just turns on! And it'll stay on!! Sometimes it'll go off if I open and close my door. Sometimes it'll go off if I unlock and lock the doors. When the sound turns on for no reason, the interior lights also come on as if a doors open.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to turn all interior lights on the dash off when the headlights are off?
It is so bright that you can't see in the dark with everything off without being blinded.
I've had my Edge CTS for two years and never noticed it turning itself off last summer.
This year, if the windows on the truck are rolled up and the interior is hot, The Edge displays a Red Error code and shuts down. 5-6 miles down the road as the truck has cooled off, The monitor will turn back on. I just don't remember that ever happening last summer, And I'm sure it got as hot as this year.
CTS turning itself off because of interior temps?
For the last couple of days my interior lights are not turning on until I open the drivers door. My Coming Home and Leaving Home functions are turned off due to the HID Headlights, but the interior lights worked fine since the HID installation in 11/13. It is a 2013 Passat SE 2.5. Is there a setting in VCDS for the interior light function.
View 7 RepliesWhen the rear window was up, the interior lights stayed on. I couldn't find the valet switch to depress/turn them off. How can I turn off the interior lights while the back window is open? I have only had the Excursion for a month so I am still figuring it all out.
View 8 RepliesI recently purchased a 2011 Ford Edge with the My-Touch control system. I am planning on taking it to music festivals where I "camp" in and around my vehicle. Some of the lights go on every time a door or hatch is opened. As I am in and out of the vehicle day and night, is there a way to disable this feature?. I ask mostly because of lights bothering me and others, but am a little concerned about battery drain. It could be up to a week without starting or driving. I do turn the headlights off, but others (inside and out) come on.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2007 elantra. I drove it for a while, then my ma needed a car (her tercel was a little unsafe) so I traded her. She loves the car, but as sometimes is the case, her dealer is not very nice. She has a severe side to side knocking noise in the steering- can be easily duplicated by sitting with the car idling and turning the wheel back and forth, even a little. Doesn't correspond with driving over bumps unless the wheel is inadvertently turned by the bump. If the suspension is unloaded (front wheels off the ground), noise disappears. No EPS lights, no codes in any system.
Listened with a stethoscope inside the car- not that loud through column within car. Inner and outer tie rods are tight, noise is not heard loudly with stethoscope through struts, upper mounts, lower arms. Under the car with loaded suspension (rhino ramps), noise is deafening in the rack, with a stethoscope. Dealer told her it needs a steering rack, I definitely understand why they would say that as the noise is clearly audible through the aluminum housing directly below the entrance of the column shaft into the rack. Only TSB I found was for a worm shaft flexible coupling, but the TSB says this is bump related.
Sometimes I will stop at a light and my idling rpm will go from 600 (usual rate she idles at) to about 950. While this may seem inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, it's noticeable enough that it seems like the car wants to go. It'll lead me to depress the brake more. You can also hear the higher pitch of the faster turning engine (it is a 50% increase in speed). This will happen at random times so I have not been able to pinpoint if it is caused by a particular driving style. ECM for this?
View 7 RepliesMy 2008 R32 interior lights do not come on when I open the drivers side door, works OK from passenger door. I can not find the door switch. I've searched all around the door and the door frame. No luck. Also the doors will not lock, and using the key to roll up or down the windows or sunroof don't work.
View 3 Replies2016 Autobahn about 5 weeks old - A couple of weeks ago I noticed a DEEP pool of water in the rear passenger floorboard.
I thought a kid spilled a bottle of water or something, but now two weeks later, it's still there.
It is just water, there's been zero rain here in CA, and no recent car washing.
I believe it is from the wife's trip to work and back when she runs the AC the entire way.
I just went out and ran the ac for 20 minutes, and there is zero water dripping from under the vehicle.
1) where is the condensation drain line? I hear it's along the firewall in the engine compartment.
2) What else could cause the condensation line to drain to the interior?
3) What about the carpet? Any chance at the dealer if we push for replacement?
I moved over some interior LED's from my past cars (MKV R32 & MK6 GTI, same fitment for basically all of the bulbs) and they're flickering a lot.
From what I've seen, it's only the dome lights -- the vanity lights, trunk lights & footwell lights are all fine...
I think it's important to note that these LED's worked fine in my past cars. I've reached out to deAutoKey to see if they can replace them...
What are some good products or ways to clean the interior? To be more specific the dash, hard plastic, and leather bits.
View 7 RepliesI'm looking for a source that sells high quality LEDs. I already have LEDs in my R but they flicker horribly. I've sent the LEDs back for replacement twice and each time they were replaced they started to flicker within a month. I don't use the lights very often but I can't deal with the flickering anymore.
I won't mention the company I purchased the LEDs from to avoid any favoritism or slander.
Installed an ecs LED interior kit last night. Didn't go for a drive, just installed the LEDs. this morning i change some codes 1 at a time starting with rear tails byte 18. moved on to byte 4 bit 4 and made the change to allow for window up and down after the doors are opened. after making this change i noticed the interior LEDs blinking on and off every few seconds.
They didn't do that last night but I wasn't sitting in the car for a few minutes either. so i change what i did back to stock and the LEDs are still blinking. Not sure if I accidentally clicked on something I shouldn't have or what. And my computer crashed the other day and i lost my full scan and copy of coping. is this normal for LED interior lights? if not can someone hook me up with the long code for a NA car?
I did do the factory reset on the mfi computer and the rear head liner lights stopped blinking but the fronts still blink.
