Golf/GTI VII :: Possible To Adjust Steering Assist - Increase Boost?
Oct 16, 2014
Is it possible to increase the steering boost, so that the wheel is easier to turn -- like with VAG-COM? I'm not a big fan of the heavy steering.

View 5 RepliesI have been using a BMS+ with my 4KWH kit for a few weeks now. I want to know if there are any other users out there using a BMS+ with a Engineer Kit. I have found that the BMS+ to increase ICE assist and improve fuel efficiency in highway mode (greater than 70kph). Since most of my driving in is in highway mode I find this device to be very useful.

I swapped to my winter wheels on Sunday, then the car sat garaged for two and half days. Went to start it this morning and just got a fast clicking, then the power steering light came on and went from yellow to red. Tried a couple of times and then it seems like the car lost power; clock reset, trip odometer reset, etc.
I'm going to check the fuses, but what the problem might be? I'd like to go to work today and in the weather we're having there's no way VW is sending a tow truck today.
I picked up a golf mk4 with low miles on it and have been working out the bugs - so far I changed out the dreaded power steering rack starter crank position sensor - dam theses cars are tough to work on but I actually enjoy it and could not have been successful without vwvortexx guiding me through- got a ton of suspension parts waiting for me to put in but I have this problem that's dogging me - searched like crazy couldn't find anything ...
When I adjust the steering column the engine "skips" and when I push the wheel in and out (as opposed to up and down) I can actually get the engine to cut out completely. (I should also mention that according to dealership receipts the PRNDL switch has been replaced along with repairs of wiring harness)...
I have a stunning r32 2004 with an hpa ft450 turbo fitted,(also porsche cayenne discs , calipers , adj suspension , milltek high flow cat , strut brace front and rear, seat splitter, ) all receipts and work carried out bought car like this. On cold it runs good and boost is good , but as soon as its warm (about 4 mins ) in 3rd 4th 5th 6th gear when the boost kicks in I get a biggish vibration through acc pedal and steering wheel, but nothing untoward before boost apart from a slight misfire on idle, the car is running rich and using plenty fuel, the turbo was fitted at 18k and now done 23k, so its very low milage.
I have fitted 3 coil packs, new plugs (old ones were black), I have been told, that the car goes through o2 sensors for fun, just cant understand why, i have no lights coming on , and going for vagcom diagnostic in the morning.
I have followed the process for clearing and resetting the Steering Assist/ABS fault codes. I have done all the steps several times and cannot get the faults to clear, although the VAG-COM indicates all is green during the testing phase.
[URL].................... And the faults will not clear.
Here is the scan results, (non-fault sections removed):

New prius here. Is there a way to increase the intensity of the illumination in the steering wheel?
View 3 RepliesToday my car came back from service, now when I reverse park I get this display where when you move the steering wheel you can choose the spot you park in. Before I was just happy reverse parking my car myself and get a different display showing me the back view with with green and red lines I think where the car is moving towards etc. I can't figure out how to disable this steering wheel park assist.
View 1 RepliesMy V10's steering column has lost the ability to adjust up and down. In and out is still fine though and the position memory works, just for in and out too. I was thinking that a fuse may have gone but I can't see a fuse dedicated to this in the manual. No doubt it'll be something much more complicated than that though.
View 7 RepliesMy W12 Steering wheel seems to no longer adjust in the up/down range when I use the button on the side of the steering column. It does move in/out. Is there a way to reinitialize or calibrate the steering wheel.
View 1 RepliesSometimes the volume button on the stereo nor the buttons on the steering button do not increase or decrease the volume. I can turn the stereo on and off - still the same. If I turn the engine off and on - this issue goes away. It's only just started happening in the past few weeks.
View 7 RepliesI just took my 2009 Subaru Forester (80,000 miles) in to a mechanic because it was having an intermittent power steering assist failure during low speed maneuvering (i.e., parking lot). This is always accompanied by a loud rhythmic whining form under the hood (kind of like a whaawhaawhaawhaa). By intermittent, I mean maybe 50% chance of it happening when I am maneuvering in a parking lot. By failure, I mean I can still turn the wheel but it's much harder. The mechanic diagnosed it as the following:
dry rot in drive belts, recommended replacement
leaky rack and pinion, recommended replacement
2 leaky front struts
I checked my power steering fluid before I brought it in and the level/color looks great. The mechanic said in addition to the leak that there's a little bit of a catch in the steering at a certain steering position when going faster, but I haven't noticed it myself. I have trusted this shop in the past and had good experiences, but there has been a lot of turnover lately, so I'm unsure of what to do. I went ahead and had them change the belts, but decided to wait on the rack/struts until I did more research/got a second opinion.
What kind of mpg increase one would see if they were to increase the tire pressures from recommended (35 F/33 R psi) to max (44 F/ 42 R). Any stats of tracked?
View 1 RepliesSo, I'm tired of this crap power steering. Since I just blew up my lpop on my 6 blow, apparently a thing with manual trans, replaced and she runs fine, I decided it is time to fix the screwed up worthless sloppy steering, and almost lack of any power steering at stop or slow drive. Picked up a rebuilt pump., and took out my old box with 220k.
I almost bought a cardone box, but frankly my input shaft had less play than 2 I ordered in. The only problem with my box is it has a tiny amount of play on the sectorshaft which translates to a lot of slop.
I've been looking into hydraulic ram assist steering, as I run 6" lift with 37s on a crew cab long bed. The thing has sucked at life since I bought it with wider 35s a few years back.
Is hydraulic assist worth it and if I go drop 500 on a redhead box, between this and the ram, am i going to be looking at decent steering on road in the future? I have no plans to offroad this boat anchor of a truck. I have a nice fun light 2 door turbo montero for that.
Do I do it, or just stick with a rebuilt box and pump?
I've had my 2008 RX350 for 2.5 yrs now and just love it! However, over the last 8 months or so, I've been having a strange annoying problem. And a few times, the car has left me stranded. What happens is I turn the key and my first indicator is that the steering wheel doesn't adjust and I know the car is not going to start. However, the radio may work, dash lights work, steering wheel is not locked. It seems entirely dead as if the battery is dead. The car may start 15 min later or may take 3 hours then decide to start.
A strange thing is, is the windows don't work following these episodes which normally signify a battery failure, however the battery is not very old, otherwise performs perfectly and the dealership tested it and say it's good. Because this is so intermittent, they couldn't re-enact the problem so I'm stuck with being stranded again....usually 6 weeks later. The dealership has no answers. I was lucky last night because the car started after 15 min. 6 weeks ago, I was stranded 50 miles away from home where I had to leave the car overnight after trying for 3 hours to get is started.
The next morning, it promptly started. I am at a total loss and it makes me nervous to drive. My husband who works for a chevy dealer and knowledgeable with cars is stumped. He asks the question, could there be a computer malfunction after so many starts which would answer the 6 wk consistency for which this happens? Should we just replace the battery even though we have no reason to suspect?
I'm sensing a light steering wheel shaking when reaching 70mph. Also during the process of increasing the speed from 25-30mph and above I can hear a sort of beating noise which becomes more consistent when increasing the speed. Car goes straight (no left - right wandering). Now I'm assuming it may be something related with the bearings, but I guess the only way to find out is by sending it to a repair shop to understand if the noise come from one or two bearings and from front or the rear bearings?!
View 2 RepliesI'm about to replace my 2008 Subaru Outback's power steering pump. Only question is: How do I adjust the belt tension? Looks like the pump is stationary, and I suspect the alternator is the key, since the belt turns that as well.
View 2 RepliesWhen I first picked up my golf r I started doing some vagcom mods and one of them was changing the hill hold setting to low rpm as I'm still learning to drive manual and it would work a bit on hills.
As far as I know there is 3 options in the adaptation channel under abs brakes and hill hold
1. Normal
2. Low rpms
3. High rpms
I changed it to low rpms and I have in fact noticed the assist on some slight and bigger hills. Today i changed it back to normal and when on some hills it didn't seem like the car was holding, or maybe hill wasn't big enough.
Is there something special that needs to be done? From what I remember when on a hill and on the brake, after letting go of it, the car would hold for like 2 seconds. Doesn't happen with normal mode.
I have a stage 2 GTI. What can I do to increase low end torque?
From my research, swaping for a k04 is not going to work, in fact its gonna make it worst.
I've had this problem a couple times now. I start the car in the garage, take the parking brake off and try to move forward. Car does not move, but inches forward like I still have had the parking brake on. I double check, it's off. And to state the obvious, I do not have my foot on the brake.
I think maybe it's hill assist, though my garage barely has an incline that probably wouldn't trigger hill assist. I try to put it in different gears and attempt to accelerate in reverse, same thing.
So, that leads me to believe, are my brakes stuck? I steadily accelerate and the car finally budges. I hear a loud "POP-TWANG!!" under the car like I just popped the parking brake. The car lurches forward and I drive out of the garage normally.
I don't hear or see any other performance issues after this under normal city driving. This was after the car was not used and was in the garage overnight or longer. I did drive a few hundred miles the day before but not under significant load or stress on the car.
