So I have an odd whistle noise, when I give it a little gas it makes a faint whistle noise. Only happens on acceleration with a little gas, I don't think it's the turbo.

Started a few days ago, There is a faint whistle noise when I am open throttle around 2500rpms. It lasts for about a second and does not occur at any other time. It does not occur under gradual acceleration, or when the car is parked/in neutral and just revving. I tried searching the forums *a little* bit, but my keywords just may have not been right.
My first inkling is that it may be related to flapper, since the rpms seem right and sounds vacuum related to me. But, the unit is completely disconnected (have borla cat-back) and the hose is ziptied, so is this possible? I will try to get a video of the noise later today.
I've been all over the place trying to get this pulley sounding noise figured out. the noise is definitely not the pulley, but is coming from that side, and from underneath the engined towards the back. this noise only occurs when car has been driven at least 30 minutes to an hour from first start of the day, but then continues the rest of the day. the noise also only occurs when I am coming to a stop or just rolling at a low idle, and then only lasts for about 30 seconds and goes always until i give it so gas and the noise comes back.
I know its sounds a lot like PVC, but i have had all that checked and actually pvc replaced. Took it to another VW dealer, and they charged me for diagnostics, and came up with it the noise was coming from somewhere in the clutch, and want to replace the whole clutch, that was just replaced by them 20,000 miles ago. You would think if was coming from the clutch it would make the noise at all times. Do you think it could be the clutch in any way?
I've had my car for less than a week and have noticed something, I want to check with you all here to see if it is common or not.
When in 2nd gear with my foot off the gas between 1-2K RPM, I hear a faint whining sound that gets lower in pitch as the RPMs drop. An example of when this would happen is if I were coming up to a stop sign in a residential area in 2nd gear, coasting to the stop sign. The sound starts a little under 2K RPM.
I don't remember hearing this in 3rd gear and I haven't tried in 1st.
My wife and I have a 2002 Golf, Manual transmission, 2.0L, L4, 8V with 178xxx ODO.
About a year ago I started hearing a very faint squeal that would always squeal, regardless of A/C use, no power loss is felt, in fact, the A/C works great and the car runs perfectly. But after a year of driving and 1 big road trip, the sound is now unbearable.
I recently replaced the alternator, belt tensioner, and threw on a new belt, but still, the squeal persists. After holding a rubber hose to my ear and moving through each accessory pulley with the other end of the hose, like a ghetto stethoscope, I know that it is definitely coming from the A/C compressor pulley.
I found a video on the Youtube that perfectly catches the same squeal (not my car, not my video) [URL]....
Since the A/C compressor has a clutch, and the outer pulley is constantly spinning with the serpentine and there is no noticeable difference in the noise whether I am using the A/C or not, I think that the outer bearings on that clutch need to be replaced.
Should I just replace the whole clutch and any good DIY threads on this? I've looked but all I can find is a DIY for a TDI, which I don't know if it's the same compressor or not.
So when I shift from 2nd to 3rd I hear, for lack of a better word, a 'whistle' type noise while shifting. It sounds like its coming from inside the car under the shifter.

When changing gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, I get this faint THUMP thump noise coming from what seems to be the driver side foot well area, on the other side of the firewall.
Other ways to replicate is by simply clutching in as if changing gears, but not actually shifting. It can be prevented by shifting/accelerating very slowly (not practical).
Nothing can be felt in the clutch pedal OR the shifter. Can't be replicated in neutral, or by simply letting off the gas under boost. ONLY when the clutch is engaged about 2.5k RPM in 1st, and 2nd.
What it could be. Dogbone bushings? Engine mount? Gerbils? Also, went to dealer and they said it wasn't "enough" for them to start pulling stuff apart. Was told to wait until it gets worse.
I drive a 2010 Golf Wagon/JSW, and when I'm going at speeds around +60 mph/90 kmph and lift off the accelerator a faint high pitched whirling noise comes on. As soon as I tap the gas pedal it goes away. What this could be?
It's been a week now since I've noticed this, I guess I've never noticed it before or it's getting louder..i don't know?
My Accent makes a really bad whining noise whenever I give it any gas, so I took it to the dealership. The tech who looked at it confirmed my suspicions and said he thinks it is something with the transmission. I have the 6mt. He said the head technician will look at it tomorrow and determine if it needs a rebuild... I am just hoping they don't pull some crap and say I damaged it with my driving (because it is the manual trans and that seems like the kind of thing a dealer would say) and say it won't be covered under warranty.

I'm new to my mark 6, and I noticed something a little bit terrifying today on the freeway. When I was in a conversion lane, from one freeway to the next (basically a very large, and hard-turning lane) I noticed that i would lose traction. As in my traction control light would come on. Going about 60, yes I know it's a little fast for these lanes seeing as they're usually is a 45 limit on them. Anyways, when the light came on, I would try to hit the brakes a little, and my brakes would give out. My pedal would lose all pressure, and my wheels and what not felt like I had just hit a tire or something on the freeway.

View 11 RepliesI have just purchased a 2004 v 8 phaeton with only 12k miles. it drive great except that when I give throttle /acceleration there is a noise (low pitched- hollow). I do not know if this is a normal noise or something which i need to worry about and always the engine coolant temperature gauge is at 200 (which is in the normal range- not sure because the temperature outside is high 102f). it drives great and all functions are fine. Do I need to change something or take it to dealer. the local dealer recently changed oil .
View 11 RepliesMy display on the MFA and Climatronic panel is really wrong (-44C now). I was taking a look at the sensor in the front left grille but the only thing that's changing into the readings with my Vag-Com is the outside temperature sensor but not the displayed temperature.
I didn't find any other sensor on my car. Nothing into the rain tray...
Today I was driving and all of a sudden the car started to seem like it wasnt responding well when giving the gas. then the check engine light came on flashing. I pulled over to check in my manual and it says there is a malfunction with the CAT, it started to smell like eggs. now i remember reading once that the smell of eggs is a burnt cat, is this the problem or could it be only the sensor ? How much a new one goes for ? how about the cat, how much does that go for ? if it is my cat how does putting in a high flow cat sound? good or bad ?
View 7 Replies09 i4 AUTO 47K miles ... When the car is running at around 50mph and if I give it very slight throttle (enough only to keep speed constant), I would hear this rhythmic humming noise. The hum rhythm has a frequency of about 1/2 second each. It is very muffled, almost like exhaust noise or tire noise. However, if I downshift to 4th gear, keep the same speed, and apply the throttle in the same way, the noise doesn't occur.

My car came with the Evoms CAI stage 1 with the sock. When its drawing in air I'm getting this annoying whistle sound. Ive had other intakes on my other R and this is just plain annoying.

The other day while stopped at a red light I decided to run out and open the trunk for my work badge that I left in my briefcase. It's a long light and I knew I'd have plenty of time. I put the car in Park and put on the parking brake then ran out. When returning the light was still red, so I put the car in Drive and waited. After it turned green I hit the gas gently but noticed the car did not move.
The car behind me hit his horn, so I hit the gas harder and the ICE kicked in and started moving the car a few feet. That's when I realized the parking brake was on and released it. Since then I'm noticing a whistle noise when I drive slow. It seems to be there when driving in EV and with the ICE running. It's not the noise maker but a higher pitch noise. Could I have done something to MG1 and MG2 when I hit the gas harder to move the car. It sounds like an electric motor high pitch sound. It may have been their before but I didn't notice it until now.
I was noticing today when i started my car that it was making a whistle noise. So naturally i popped the hood to find the source of the noise. It is from this hose that connects to my header it has this crack in it and it is sucking air in.
