Golf/GTI VII :: Faint Tick Or Creak For A Split Second

Just noticed this last week when I was driving around at slow speeds with my windows down. If I turn either left or right I can hear a faint little tick or creak for a split second. I can usually make it constantly do it if I swerve back and forth at slow speeds. Sometimes it happens when I hit a little bump as well. It makes me think it has something to do with with either the suspension or maybe some part of the steering components. Little things like this on a new car just annoy me. I don't really feel like taking it in to a dealer because I can almost guarantee they will come back with the typical "couldn't replicate noise" response.

I am concerned with an engine noise.

5 months ago we bought a 2005 Lexus RX-330. It had 109k miles on it (now has 113k). There is a faint but noticeable engine tap/ knock/ tick coming from the engine. I think it has the 3.3l, 3gr-fe engine.

I have listed some observations:

The sound does not occur on startup, when the car is completely cold.
The sound starts after 5-10 minutes of driving or idling.
The sound diminishes and is almost imperceptible after another 10 minutes of driving.
The sound is only noticeable at idle.
The sound/tap seems to occur about 5 times a second at 600 rpm (idle)
The sound increases frequency with rising of rpm.
At approximately 2k rpm the sound cannot be heard.
If the vehicle is stopped after driving, allowed to sit for 5-10 minutes and then restarted, the sound will be loudest even though the engine is still hot.
The engine is quiet overall with exception of this sound. The fuel injector sound is the next loudest sound.
The sound doesn't seem to have gotten louder in the last 5 months but it may have gotten just slightly louder by my estimation.
I can hear the sound inside the vehicle and outside as well.

No other symptoms are present. I had the timing belt, water pump, idler and tensioner replaced as maintenance and as a possible solution to this problem right after buying the vehicle.

The mechanic heard the sound but told me he wasn't sure of the cause. He and I agree that it sounds like an internal engine noise. It is not a pulley, idler or exhaust sound. The mechanic told me not to worry about it and it was a normal sound. He also said to start troubleshooting would get expensive. I am still concerned.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Faint Engine Tick / Click Sound When Accelerating At Speed

I have been experiencing a slight issue with my 07 Sonata V6 lately. When I am accelerating, most commonly when already at speed around 80 to 90 km/h, I would hear this 2-3 ticks / clicks when I press lightly or moderately on the accelerator pedal. The car would accelerate fine without any further noises. When I release the pedal, the car slows down a bit, and I press on the pedal again, then the same sound re-appears.

Accent MC (2006-11) :: Tick Tick Noise In Front Of Driver Seat While Waiting At Traffic Light

I just recently started driving... with a second hand hyundai accent. Whenever i stop at traffic light with engine on, i hear tick tick noise (probs from engine?). it seems to be coming from front of the driver seat. When I start at the beginning, I do not hear any noise and also when i am driving i do not hear any noise or lets say nothing audible like this. Its only when i stop my car and while i am waiting, i hear this tick tick noise(very clear and audible).

Is it engine metallic part making sound when cooling down? When I start my car I see symbol for low oil pressure, batter life, check engine, but as soon the engine starts these symbol disappear which I think is normal behaviour.

Golf IV R32 :: Spinning Creak Sound Happens In First And Second Gear Mostly At 3 - 4k RPM

Name that sound!!! It's coming from the rear. Sounds like a spinning creak sound kind of rattly. Always after cold starts it's more prevalent. Happens in first and second gear mostly at 3-4k rpm... Not as noticeable when warmed up but still there. Can't figure it out....

Golf/GTI VI :: Random Tick Heard With Windows Down

Like the title says, brand new Golf 2.5 with 300 miles.

Randomly, I'll hear a "tick" when the windows are down just driving down the road. It sounds like a pebble hitting a tin can or exhaust pipe by of course it isn't that.

Is this a common thing? WTF is going on here? This type of problem would be impossible to reproduce for the service dept. Already took it back for one other thing and got the "oh that's normal".

Been driving my new GTI for a few weeks now and I love it. As a longtime VW owner I am aware that these cars like to make mysterious noises, but this one is new to me. About 1 minute after starting my new 2010 GTI and driving to the end of the block, I hear a tick/tock sound from the right rear of the car for about 15 seconds. I am familiar with the fuel pump priming sound upon opening the driver's door, but this is different. What this might be?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Small Creak Or Groan When Turn The Steering Wheel

I've always had a small creaking or groan when i turn the wheel after I lowered my GLI a year ago, but i feel like it's getting louder...

What could be causing it? cause im doing my year end "maintenance" (if its worn/almost broke, perfect excuse to buy upgrades) ...

My control arms are brand new with r32 bushings as are my 034strut mounts/bearings. I checked my steering fluid level and its good.

Pic for reference of current height, might raise it .5 or so, my new job has quite the driveway entrance.

Golf IV R32 :: Hesitation For A Split Second At Like 5500 Rpms

I bought my MKIV R 2 months ago. Car has 114k, mostly stock besides UM Tune and flapper. First things I did was new oem plugs, coils, crankshaft sensor and drop in k&n filter. PO did fuel filter at 100k. Few weeks ago I noticed when stepping on it in 2nd and 3rd gear car will hesitate for a split second at like 5500 rpms and than keep on pulling. I dont really beat on the car at all so I didnt pay attention to that. Today I tried to see if it still does it and it did, 3rd gear, 2 tries, both at 5500 rpms. I scanned the car and no fault codes. Is it normal for the car to have this sort of "hiccup"? Not sure where to start looking to be honest.

Golf V R32 :: Cluck Tick Noise When Start Driving And Then Make A Stop?

Seems to only happen when I first start driving and then make a stop. While I am waiting for the light to turn green I hear a clunk tick cluck tick noise behind the passenger seat that seems to speed up and then slow down. I think that is where the fuel pump is.

I just passed 3k miles on the OD. Lately, when I'm driving, I'll randomly feel the engine lose power for a split second. It just cuts out and then comes right back. Sometimes it's fairly quick, others it's very noticeable. I buy fuel from good gas stations, and the dealership couldn't find anything and also said they'd never heard of this issue.

Golf V R32 :: DSG Slip / RPM Jump Up For A Split Second On Tachometer When Press Accelerator

Had my .:R for 2 years now and just noticed other day. When you cruise in 2/3/4/5 gears about 3000 RPM and suddenly press accelerator 1/3 down RPM jump UP for a split second on tachometer. They go up by one segment (which is 200RPM) and then drop back down.

Now, DSG should not do that to my understanding as clutch pack is engaged! There should be no slip. Also, it is not a drive train shunt, as I kept the car in very slight acceleration.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: When Turn The Key Engine Almost Starts For A Split Second And Then Shuts Off

When I go to turn my car on, I have to give it 3 or 4 tries. The try before it actually turns on goes like this: turn key, engine sounds like it wants to turn, almost starts for a split second, and then shuts off. After this I can usually turn it on.

Usually the rpm's would be around 1.3k on a cold start, but when I finally get it to start it automatically dips below 1k. Then when I go to drive it, it feels like it wants to shut off on that first throttle push. It started with just an issue in cold weather, but has gotten progressively worse. Battery is only a few months old.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clutch Disengages Then Engage Again For A Split Second When Accelerate

So I just bought a 2000 MK4 Jetta for a $1000, its been ok, replaced the breaks, rear calipers, swapped in new headlight socket, swapped in amber tails, new plug wires, new drive belt, water pump/ timing belt all new.

Car has 173,xxx and i drive in pretty bad traffic daily, there are times when i am going to accelerate and between 2-3k RPM it feels like the clutch disengages then re-engages for a split second. then continues to drive normal, happens 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Is this the clutch slipping? will it be fixed if i were to order a new clutch kit? I am on a budget and do all my own work, so i can't afford to buy a new clutch kit and have this not fix the problem.

Also, the car gets a little wiley on the free way, feels like its the struts, but the steering wheel vibrates a bit, i just found out the PO had different rims on the car before. So the tires might need to be balanced. I JUST Ordered new Racelands hopefully to stop the creaking/bounciness of the suspension. How to get this steering in check.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rough Idle / Small Hose Behind MAF In Front Throttle Body Split In Half

I searched but couldn't immediately find anything about this particular line. I've been struggling with a rough idle for the past couple weeks, throwing codes that I'm running to lean all the time. I cleaned the throttle body and MAF, and was in the process of replacing the MAF and noticed a small hose fitting behind the MAF but before the throttle body was pretty much split in half. I don't know what it's for and I'm replacing it regardless, but could this be the source of my problem?

Golf/GTI VII :: Door Seal Creak / Red Door Stripe On The Passenger Side Won't Light Up

So I took my GTI in for TSBs, new wipers, the door seal creak and new wheels (old ones were not painted behind the spokes) - when it was returned to me, I noticed (after I got home) the red door stripe on the passenger side would not light up. At one point they had taken that door panel off to see if it was creaking instead of the seals (which of course, it was not) and I assume that they forgot to connect something, or unplugged something accidentally. Any other suggestion, like a magical fuse I can replace? I so don't want to travel 60 miles back to this guy. And not only did they not fix the seals, the noise is worse than before, I think from them messing with the doors. But anyway, I'm looking for possible DIY fixes.

Golf V R32 :: Faint Buzz For 3 To 4 Seconds

I give up. I have bad ears so can't localize it. I open the driver's door in my garage, so the door was unlocked. And I hear a 3-4 second faint "buzz", like that of a cell phone set to vibrate. I've spent the last week trying to jump in and locate it, and haven't yet.

Golf/GTI VI :: Faint Whining Noise In 2nd Gear Below 2K RPM

I've had my car for less than a week and have noticed something, I want to check with you all here to see if it is common or not.

When in 2nd gear with my foot off the gas between 1-2K RPM, I hear a faint whining sound that gets lower in pitch as the RPMs drop. An example of when this would happen is if I were coming up to a stop sign in a residential area in 2nd gear, coasting to the stop sign. The sound starts a little under 2K RPM.

I don't remember hearing this in 3rd gear and I haven't tried in 1st.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Faint Squealing Noise

My wife and I have a 2002 Golf, Manual transmission, 2.0L, L4, 8V with 178xxx ODO.

About a year ago I started hearing a very faint squeal that would always squeal, regardless of A/C use, no power loss is felt, in fact, the A/C works great and the car runs perfectly. But after a year of driving and 1 big road trip, the sound is now unbearable.

I recently replaced the alternator, belt tensioner, and threw on a new belt, but still, the squeal persists. After holding a rubber hose to my ear and moving through each accessory pulley with the other end of the hose, like a ghetto stethoscope, I know that it is definitely coming from the A/C compressor pulley.

I found a video on the Youtube that perfectly catches the same squeal (not my car, not my video) [URL]....

Since the A/C compressor has a clutch, and the outer pulley is constantly spinning with the serpentine and there is no noticeable difference in the noise whether I am using the A/C or not, I think that the outer bearings on that clutch need to be replaced.

Should I just replace the whole clutch and any good DIY threads on this? I've looked but all I can find is a DIY for a TDI, which I don't know if it's the same compressor or not.
