Golf/GTI VII :: 2015 - Front End Rattle Over Bumps
Aug 27, 2014
My 2015 GTI is making rattling noises over small bumps. It sounds like a loose ball joint or tie rod end. I had the sway bar link recall work done. It's definitely a loose metal part rattle. My dealer can't look at it until next Tuesday.

I have a 2006 Scion tC, 109k miles. I have a rattle coming from the front-right wheel area. It's only over small bumps (I mean SMALL, like little dips), and I can't really re-produce it on a jack. It happens more frequently when I turn to the left. The frequency of the rattle sounds similar to a paint can ball, but if it were a lower pitch. I'm thinking of checking the the strut mount, or maybe the end link?

My 1998 V6 Camry has rattle on right front and now starting on left too. Bad shocks were replaced and still rattles going over bumps at speeds 20-35. Don't notice on freeway. Car drives fine, no pulling or other problems just irritating noise at slower speeds. Two different mechanics say the Strut mount plate is loose. Could not find any other problems? Is it okay to leave the mount plates in place? Mechanics say other than annoying there isn't a problem.

I have this front end rattle or clanking. It happens over bumps and cracks in the road. The rattle seems to be more on the passengers side to under the middle of the car. The stats of my Wagon - lowered on Bilstien Sports/H&R springs. All The control arms have been replaced back in 04 and maybe 40k miles ago. Drive axles were replaced once a long time ago, before it was lowered.

I have a klunk/rattle in the drivers side front end when I go over a small bump at a slow speed. The dealer said it was the struts - they repleced them along with the upper support thing. Noise still there, next they said it was a worn motor mount - noise still there

I was going to put new ball joints in but wimped out and had my mechanic do them. I'm too old to be doing that kind of crap. I just replaced the fuel pump with the correct one. That's enough under truck time for a while. 91,000 miles on the originals, stopped the rumble / rattle when I hit bumps in the front end. Getting the alignment Tuesday. Guess I got my money's worth out of them. Still has original brake pads too. Thinking of doing an upgrade to the brakes, drilled and slotted, I tow an RV and need it to protect the idiots that pull out in front of me. 2001, V10, CC ......

'01 Taurus with an occasional rattle/clunking sound coming from the front end when going over bumps. Took it to the local shopping center auto. service dept. (probably 1st mistake I know) They say the only thing they could find was the RH CV boot was bad and was probably the source of the noise. Doesn't sound right to me since the boot is rubber and what I hear is more of a metal sound..what I was thinking possibly a suspension link or tie rod end. I know what a bad cv JOINT sounds like and it's nothing like this. Now if the CV boot is bad I don't mind to replace it, but I don't want to spend the money if it is not going to solve the problem. I've never heard of a boot making noise before.

The roads here in Maine this winter were especially awful with potholes and bumps. My '03 Ford Focus Wagon has recently developed a noise that I can't diagnose. The noise can be best described as a "rattle" from the front end when going over very small bumps/cracks in the road. It almost sounds like loose shocks. They are the original shocks and have 130k miles on them.
Big bumps are not a problem. Car does not bottom out, sway upon braking, or bounce when I put my weight on it and release. Several years ago I had a "creaking" from the front end and my mechanic replaced some bushings which fixed the problem. I originally thought this was the same, but it doesn't sound like that - worried it could be the struts but I want to diagnose it a little better before I bring it to a mechanic and just say that I have a front end noise...

MK6 gti/golf ... I recently found a new *metal* type rattle coming from my rear seat on the passenger side no one seemed to have the fix for it online, so i decided to hunt for the rattle. found it and the fix is very easy. There are 3 possible repairs:
Repair 1 steps:
1) release the rear seat clips, 2 slide in clips in the front, just pull up, and then the 2 rear hooks by pushing the seat back and up motion to unhook.
2) fold the carpet over on the passenger side and you will find the fuel tank access lid
3) pull the grommet with the wires going through it out, i also wrapped the module sitting in the pocket of the lid with cloth tape/ felt tape
4) pull up on the plastic lid. (you might break a tap or two of the lid you can easily secure the lid down with sound deadening or dum dum)
5) first thing you see is a black and blue fuel line ( mine were touching each other making a rattle noise) and if u were to shake the lines they would rattle farther in against the body
6) take piece of rubber hose (i used a type of fuel line i had at work) cut one side of the rubber hose so u can fit it over the line.
7) slide the rubber piece over both lines and push it in as far as you need, untill the line does not hit the body or make a rattle type noise.
8) place one more piece where the two lines touch
9) re assemble the rear seats (seal the lid if you broke any clips. to prevent air noise)
Repair 2:
1) lift car up and locate the top camber bolt on the passenger side. there should be a white plastic evap line. i found mine touching and rattling.
2) cut a piece of rubber hose and slice one side so you can slip it over the line
Repair 3:
1) remove the 10 mm plastic nuts on the plastic cover on the passenger side to reveal the fuel lines and evap lines.
2) found my lines touching
3) place rubbing tubing on all three of the lines
4) re assemble plastic cover and road test car.
You can always add more rubber pieces if needed.

Noticed a rattling sound from the front end of the car when hitting certain types of bumps/rough road. Turns out my right front stabilizer bar needs replacing. Dealer has ordered part, and it's covered under warranty. However, I thought stabilizer bars were supposed to be replaced in pairs. Do I need to ask them to replace both the front right and left, or is just replacing the right ok?

Minor rattle when going over bumps! It sounds like drivers side rear... I have had a chance to check of anything in the car was loose (spare tire tools etc...). Found my problem, now I just have to confirm its the rear driver seat belt not resting correctly.
1. Intermittent rattle behind driver
-check rear seat belts that they are actually resting on the cushion loop.
-check rear passenger window switch.
-check door strikers
2. Bass rattle front doors
-check with dealer
3. Rattle at rear of car
-check spare wheel and tool compartment.

Having issues with passenger side door making noise on the highway at higher speeds or over bumps? I've recently begun to notice a slight rattle coming from the passenger side door when at highway speeds which becomes more noticeable and annoying when driving over a bump or less smooth roadways. I just reached 1500 miles. I have looked around on the forum and found some issues that various GTI owners experienced most dated from last year (talked with a MK6 GTI owner today at work who mentioned there was a recall not too long ago on this issue?), but I feel like that would have been since fixed with the R if the recall was last year.

Purchased a 2015 GtI Autobahn 4 door in Jan. Have had a rattle coming from the rear. Put set screws in the bottom shelf and removed the removable top shelf but still have the noise.

Aside from the clutch and gear changing noise, recently I've been noticing something that sounds almost like a rattle when going over bumps, say a series of filled potholes on a highway where they just slightly bump to move your wheel around, it's not that deep thumping you would expect to hear but it sounds like something is loose in terms of the suspension.
Happens on the front and seems like its coming from both sides. To me it sort of sounds like they forgot to tighten something up when they removed the shipping "blocks"/spacers, but I am not exactly sure what to check. I really do not want to visit the dealership at only 600 miles on the clock ...

I have a clunking noise from the right front suspension when going over bumps. I've replaced the Strut bushings that were collapsed, the control arm bushings that had play and the noise is still there. There is no play in the links. There is a slight noise in the sway bar bushings when struck with a rubber mallet. I hate to keep replacing parts chasing down this noise.

I'm getting a squeaking/creaking noise from the front when turning and over some bumps. It has ST coilovers already and read a post from the previous owner here and he said the noise started after the install and he was told ot was the upper mounts??? Does this sound correct?? Also i noticed it when parked and just turning the wheel back and forth, popped the hood and had my son turn it and it did sound like it was coming from the upper strut area....

I notice the door rattles a lot now, more noticeably over bumps. Also, I don't really turn my music that loud, but when it is I can hear the rattle as well. Any quick fixs for this? Or would it be easier to get the dealer to try to fix this during my 5000 mile maintenance?

A clunk sound coming from the front end. Drivers side and Passenger side. Not really a metal on metal sound. The problem started after coilover install. The sound occurs while braking and accelerating over bumps. So what I've replaced:
-Strut Mounts and Bearings
-Lower control arm bushings (R32 bushings)
-Drivers Side CV axle
What I've checked:
-Tie rod ends have no play
-Ball joints have no play.
-I have no sway bar, so not the sway bar bushings.
-Its not the axle hitting the frame.
Could possibly be the dog bone mount but when I installed the 1' motor mounts I saw no issue but could possibly be the bushing. feel the clunk in my foot as well.

New MK7 GTI here in Canada with leather. 5-door.
Roughly 6,000km so far and started noticing a rattle coming from the front passenger seat. Initially I thought it was the fuel line problem that some have been having so I contacted my dealer and they stated my particular car wasn't flagged for that recall at all.
The weird part is that the rattle goes away if I even lightly place my hand on the seat, an comes back as soon as I take my hand off. I got under the seat to see if it was a wire connection hitting the metal of the seat and everything appears to be in order.

My 07 gs350 only has 67,000 miles on it, and I've only had it for 2 weeks. I've noticed a rattle in my dash, seems to be up where the front windshield meets it. It only seems to happen when I hit bumps, which is quite frequent. The roads here in Michigan are absolutely terrible. Also I have run flat tires on it, which I heard makes for an extra bumpy ride... Is this a known problem? If so what's it gonna run me to fix it? Or is it just these run flat tires that I need to change maybe?
