Golf/GTI VI :: When Rev Engine Gauge Will Only Go Up To 0

Mar 11, 2015

I just installed a New South Performance boost gauge in my MK6 GTI. I followed the instructions to the letter but am experiencing some weird behavior. [URL].............

I replaced the intake manifold hose with the one that I purchased from the kit that has the outlet for the vacuum hose. Connected the vacuum line to the outlet, ran the line along hoses away from parts of the engine that would get hot and went through the firewall on the drivers side. The battery was disconnected for a couple of hours which I heard will cause some warning lights to come on once the car is started but go away after you drive for about 20 ft. I then used the provided wire taps to connect the ground, light, and dimmer to the stock headlight switch.

Ground black gauge wire to brown headlight wire (position 6 on harness connector)

Switched 12V red gauge wire to black/purple headlight wire (position 4 on harness connector)

Dimmer yellow gauge wire to gray headlight wire (position 10 on harness connector)

The issue I am seeing mainly is when the car is idle and not under load, the gauge is reading around -10 hg where everything I have been reading states that the vacuum should be around 20 hg (+ - 3). I also notice that when I rev the engine the gauge will only go up to 0. When I drive in sport mode and get on the gas, I will see a spike up to 11 lbs. I just finished the install about 30 min. ago and it is pretty dark out so I haven't had a chance to check for boost leaks. I am not tuned but the car was tuned at one point before I purchased the car according to the VIN scan when I go to the dealership for service. I am assuming that I am not tuned because from what I read, a tune will disable the rev limiter.

Golf/GTI VI :: Engine Temperature Gauge Drops After Warm Up - Is This Normal

I have never seen any of my other cars do this and I just want to see if this is normal. It happens like clockwork every time I get in the car with a cold engine. I let the car sit while the RPMs are high and as soon as the tach drops I start to drive the car softly. The engine temp gauge reaches normal operating temp in a normal amount of time, it does not just jump to the middle. But after about 1 minute it just starts falling quite quickly, as you can see in the video. It's very predictable - happens every time I drive it so it was easy to catch on video. I don't notice any difference in engine performance. Is this normal for a VW GTI or is something wacky going on?

You can skip to 19-20 seconds in the video to see the needle drop.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2005 - Engine Temperature / Fuel Gauge Not Working

I have a 2005 mk4 gli and the other morning I went out to start my car for work and all I got was crank no start. I then realized my fuel pump wasn't priming when I opened the driver door. After work I came back and checked the fuel pump fuse and swapped the relay with another I had, still nothing. A buddy of mine decided to check the connector at the fuel pump for power, using a power probe I believe he hit all or the majority of the wires with 12v of negative and/or positive power. He then unplugged the connecter and plugged it back in and the car fired right up. But I noticed that my fuel gauge, engine temp gauge, and outside air temp readout were all not functioning. I've searched and searched without being able to narrow down a solution.

Golf/GTI VI :: Engine Temperature Gauge Needle Will Fluctuate Depending On If Accelerating Or At Speed

Car is a 2012 GTI 6MT with APR intake.

Within the last couple of days, my engine temperature gauge has been acting a little strange. The needle will fluctuate depending on if I'm accelerating or at speed. I've actually seen it go down several times before going back up to normal temp. On a couple of days, it will go up to about halfway to normal temp, and just stay there for a lot longer than it usually seems to.

There have also been times when the car is at normal operating temp, I'll go into a store for maybe 15 minutes, and when I come out, it shows the engine temperature is maybe halfway to where it should be. Then it will go back to normal after a few minutes of driving. I would think that if the engine is warm, it should stay there for more than 15 minutes, even if the car isn't on.

We haven't had any abnormally cold days lately, and I'm not getting any CEL, but I was wondering if anything to worry about, or if it's normal.

Golf IV R32 :: Overheating - Gauge Above 190

i was on my way to work today -10-degree weather and i noticed my temp. the gauge was slightly above 190, and it steadily climbed into the red approx. 10 mins while going down the highway, all the while my heat was blowing extremely hot so i pulled over to let it cool down. I was able to get back home without it overheating too much (not in the red).

So i let it cool and refilled coolant 50/50 g12 due to loss from evaporation, now its just blowing cold air from vents prior to this (last couple months) it wouldn't reach 190 it was slightly below my question is does this sound like the thermostat or something worse its almost like its been sticking open and then all of a sudden it was stuck shut I'm not sure but I'm gonna change thermostat tomorrow .

Golf VI R :: Noise Coming From Gauge

I've been running the Podi Gauge for almost a year now, and it has been great. As of the last two months or so, I have been noticing a noise coming from the gauge when it is sitting around 0-5psi. If I sit below that or above it, there is no noise. I don't know how to describe the noise - other than maybe dragging fingernails across plastic grill?

Could it be trapped moisture? Loose hose? It is not 100% of the time, but very frequent.

Golf IV R32 :: Temperature Gauge Fluctuation

So my temperature gauge started fluctuating from low to mid-gauge reading and it does not matter if at idle or driving. It never goes above mid-range or reads hot. I have had my diagnostic tool connected while monitoring the ECT in real time and my temp reads 180-195. Also there are no codes and everything else is running normal.

I have searched other threads and the only thing that was mentioned was changing the temp sensor but they also had the issue where the diagnostic tool also showed the temp fluctuating.

Golf/GTI VI :: Temperature Gauge Go Up Into The Warning Zone

I JUST got my brand new 2011 gti this wednesday, which I am obsessed with. When I was driving around earlier yesterday however, the temperature gauge started to go up and into the warning zone. a message on the dashboard then sed "check engine coolant see manual".

So i did, and according to the manual everything should be running perfectly fine. So i pulled over till the engine cooled down to normal, then after about a mile it happened again, and it kept overheating every mile. I got the car towed by vw to a dealership nearby, but they're closed on sundays so i have to wait till tomorrow.

Golf IV R32 :: Fuel Gauge Stuck On Full?

I am having a "made you look moment" that I thought was a blessing only to figure shortly after that it was just a very very evil joke. So what happen was I turn my car on after it has been sitting for about an hour and half in the shade in 80-90 degree breezy weather, the fuel guage decided that my half tank of gas was not enough and so it figured out a way to osmosis itself and create a full tank instead. Even my miles to empty rose too at the same time. the odd part was all I did was turn the car on to idle.

What gives? I have a new gas cap so its for sure not that, there is gas in the tank too. At first i thought it might be the floater in the tank getting stuck on something but then I thought it may be fumes from the heat causing a pressure build up. So I decided to drive the car to see if any change would occur and it did. It was dropping from full down a 1/4 then stayed there. I figured if I gas it a tad more it might suck up the fuel fumes or something and sure enough it did. It dropped back down to the original amount.

Golf V R32 :: Fuel Gauge Fluctuates Once Turn The Key To Acc

My fuel gauge fluctuates once I turn the key to Acc, once I fire it up it goes back to empty and climb back to the correct position,

Also once this happens, my MFD starts to act crazy, sometimes it shows nothing, and times gets stuck on the door open screen and my steering wheel controls go dead, if I turn off the car and then on its gets stuck "Volkswagen information" screen.

I disconnected/reconnect the battery everything went fine for a couple of days and then happened again,

Golf V R32 :: Fuel Gauge Bounce With 1/4 Of Tank

I have about 45,000 miles in my R and all of the sudden the fuel gauge is doing funny things. It seems that when i have about 1/4 of a tank of fuel left, the gauge will bounce around from almost empty to 1/4 on perfectly flat ground. Example i get out of the car with 1/4 of tank left and 60 miles till empty.

When I come out a few hrs later. It shows 20 miles, refuel and the gauge bounces. Yesterday it did it just below 1/2 a tank. The R is going to see my local friendly Vw dealer to see if they can figure it out. A few months ago had the 40K service done and I don't think this had anything to do with it.

Passat (B7) :: 2012 / 2.0 TDI Engine Temperature Too Low - Gauge Will Go Up And Down

I have a 2012 Passat 2.0 TDI (140) DSG

Sometimes the engine temperature stays low for an entire drive. Regardless of speed - it has happened while sitting in traffic for hours or while sitting at 70mph.

When this is happening, the engine temperature gauge will go up and down, but never reach 90, and the oil temperature reading fluctuates from around 60 to 80. Also the air into the car doesn't get hot enough, but now we're out of winter that doesn't matter too much.

But then other days it will be 100% fine - it rises up to 90 within 10 minutes of a cold start and stays there the whole day - and the oil temperature sits between 90 and 100.

I've taken it to a couple of VW dealers but obviously it behaves perfectly on those days! I remember reading something about a thermostat that circulates coolant to the DSG box, which can cause these kinds of symptoms?
