Golf/GTI VI :: Temp Knob Need To Be Rotated To Get Hot Air
Nov 23, 2011
I have the base 2011 GTI heating system. In the morning I'll get into the car. Fan is off. Temp is in the middle between blue and red mark. I start the car. Then I turn the temp dial to all the way hot. Then I drive until the car is warmed up fully and turn the fan on. The fan will now blow cold air until I rotate the temp knob back and forth. As soon as I rotate the knob heat starts blasting out within seconds. I can leave it alone the entire 30 minute ride to work and it will never warm up unless I move the temp knob.
AC switch and recycle switch are both off. It has happened with the vents in the defog and normal top vents open positions. Seems like either a faulty knob or software bug to me.

I have a 99 B5 and the lights for the Heater Temp Knob, the AC/ heater Fan Knob and the blower direction knob are all out. The fuses are OK. I have checked that.

When I start my 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited the left temperature control knob flashes intermittently for a few seconds. See 17 second video. This has been happening for the past three weeks. What is causing this and how to repair it?

I have owned my 2008 yaris sedan since new. With the temp knob turned to full cold, the air coming in (all vents I think) is always warmer than the outside air. This is annoying; I am forced to turn on the air conditioner even when the outside air is just right. I suspect that an internal flapper valve of some sort is not seating properly and is leaking warm air.

Ok, so I'm getting the typical P2181 Cooling system performance. So i replaced my t-stat and ect sensor but no change. When i'm looking at my mvb's in 01 and 17 they're reading the same. I check my hose temp and both upper and lower are similar in heat. I can watch the temp rise in the mvb's till the fans kick on and the temp will drop.
Now, at start up it'll literally take about 9-12 min to warm up in this 20 degree weather. I was driving home tonight and got off I-5 and at the light with the heat on I watched the temp gauge drop from operating temp to almost the notch above cold, and I could feel the heat cool down coming out of the vents.

The other day the plastic top piece of my shift knob broke off (that had the shift pattern painted on it) and it made me once again want to replace the stock shift knob. I was considering buying one, but other than TWM I can't find any that I really like, so I want to machine one myself. My biggest problem in planning right now is what metal to use, SS is nice but expensive, and how to attach it to the leather and the stick. The only way I can think of attaching it to the stick is with set screws which would be hard to drill.

Swap DSG knob in mk7 for that of an A3 or S3 knob. I have searched but could not find anything about swapping DSG gear knobs. I don't know if it's something easy to do but I would like to swap mine for something that you would see more in the Audi as I would like something that is more round.

I recently purchased my R32 and the previous owner installed a short throw shifter. The knob and aluminum ring look like they are installed correctly but the boot won't stay up next to the aluminum ring. I originally thought that it would just either snap into place or it would need to twist to lock it into place. I've looked at and I can't figure it out. How it is supposed to attach to the aluminum ring?

The only serious problem i can't quite figure out is how to attach the shifter "knob" to the stalk. I see how the stock knob is attached, but i will be using an aluminium rod so clamping wont be a great idea. I have thought of removing the stalk and drilling a set of holes through it and running bolts to hold them together, but it isn't that big of a diameter and also i don't like the though of one of those nuts coming loose and messing up my shifting. My nest idea was epoxy, but I still would like to remove it if perhaps one day i wanted to. So there's my dilemma.

I am experiencing a very weird issue ... at least in my opinion with my DSG on my 2012 mk6 GTI. I am not sure if this is the DSG "clunk" but when parked uphill/downhill and going from P to R the shift knob is very hard to move. When switching it, it almost sounds like there is some metal grinding. This happens when the car is parked once again uphill/downhill in 99% of the time. There is some very rare instances when the DSG acts the same way when i park it on a leveled street but extremely rare once again. Should I be worried? The DSG has been a great transmission so far, no issues what so ever except VW's flash.

I have my GTi, a week ago I broke an axle. I was then convinced by friends the clutch went out. So I said screw it and bought a Southbend Stage 2 Daily. When I get it I go to install it, then find out I have a Broken half shaft. So after taking the tranny out to install the clutch anyways and everything goes alright for the most part. (250k miles so that's why I never returned new clutch)
SO I get everything together. Tires spins. Car goes all is good.
Clutch is super spongy as I need to bleed it. But my problem is the shifter knob is super sloppy. Feels like is a whole section lower. It's hard to engage second as I have to double tap it in with a good throw. Everything is right on the shift tower. And seems like it clicks right into all the gears. But the physical knob feels super sloppy and out of place. First, third and 5th are all super far up and seems like it double clicks after putting it into gear. Like if there was a gear above. Kinda weird to explain. I've done the home alignment on the tower and nob, but only have a bolt that was 4.71 mm. So the cables should be really close to being aligned right. But I can't grab second at high Rpms.
I also need to do my drain and fill. So would it be a drain and fill and clutch bleeding will fix my sloppy shifter? Before I did everything it was tight. Felt right.

I have a 2014 GTI 6MT, and am trying to figure out if, when I got the car 3 months ago new, the shift knob was loose, or tight. Right now, I just noticed it has the lateral rotation (left/right) maybe 1/8" or so. Just can't remember when I got it, if I noticed that.
Shift knob had lateral rotation when you got your car, or shortly thereafter?

Is it normal to occasionally feel a little vibration or feedback in the shift knob when putting the car into reverse? It happens whether the car is in the "Warm-Up" phase or not, and seems pretty random. Happens about 25% of the time. It doesn't last but a tenth of a second, and it just barely makes an audible noise when the window is rolled down. This is my first manual transmission car so I just don't have the experience to 'diagnose' this. And no, I'm not trying to put the car in reverse while the car is still rolling forward.

I don't have my manual in front of me and I was looking for a quick answer to this question. How often should the Touareg's tires be rotated according to VW's recommendations?

I had them rotated the other week and at 70 I have a vibration. Dealer does not have the right machine. but my local tire shop has always done a great job!!!

When I had this set of tires rotated and balanced for the first time I picked up a vibration. I can feel it through the steering wheel and the floor, it starts about 40 or 45 mph. It is not severe but it is annoying. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus size 215/45-17, they had about 9K miles on them when I had them rotated. Before they were rotated they were as smooth as glass.

I had no clue about this wheel lock feature. People still steal tires?
Anyway, I need to order that one item that will allow the tire people to rotate my tires. What exactly is this part called?

I have a 2011 ES 350, 30k miles. Tires were rotated at 23k. Now I am hearing a whooping noise in the front end. Took car back to garage and told them about the noise. They balanced the tires- still having that noise and it gets loader when speed increases.
