View 4 RepliesI have a 01 vr6 mk4 gti. When I bought the car I noticed a rattle but never paid mind to it. But now I just want it fixed. I hear the rattle come from the back of the engine near the intake manifold when I rev it a little. The most rpms the louder the rattle . I been doing some research and came to a conclusion that it could be the shift rod and bad intake bushing. But, I'll like a link on how to replace the shift rod.

View 14 RepliesThird owner with about 81k, sometimes when I go to shift into sixth it seems like there is something stopping me about half way into normal position. Normally I have to go back to neutral and then try again. I don't have this issue with the other gears.
second question, I've noticed under deceleration mostly or going slow over bumps that I can hear a tin style rattle. Now the last couple days when I start the car with or without AC running there is a constant rattle making me think that whatever was rattling over bumps is about to make a run for it when I hit a big bump or something.
2009 Matrix 2ZR-FE, briefly rattles on restart after sitting for one hour after reaching running temp. This engine doesn't rattle on a cold startup so I'm wondering what else other than the intake cam gear could cause this. 42,000 miles, 5-20 dino, regular service.

When I do a cold start-up and after about 5-10 seconds after start, I get this clicking noise coming from the rear passenger side. Almost sounds like something maybe gas cap is trying to lock or something. But when I hear this noise and even unlock the fuel cap I still get the same noise. I cant figure it out for the life of me. I even unlock and open the rear hatch... same noise. And after about 20 seconds of this noise then all of a sudden it goes away.
View 17 RepliesMy 2010 Prius V just past the 24000km mark. I have a buzzing noise coming from the engine bay during startup. It happens when the interior fan is on. You can hear it clearly after you start the car, during the silence of the "boot up", before the ICE kicks in. I can't be sure if it continues to buzz after that because the sound of the ICE drowns it out. However, If I shut off the fan during the boot up, the buzz disappears. Finally, if I leave the fan off and start the car, there is no buzz.
During a recent oil change, a hybrid technician claims that this is normal. It used to happen infrequently but now it is consistent, so if it was normal, I should have heard it when the car was new.
I've got a 1997 Honda CRV. Recently when you start it up in the morning there is a terrible clatter coming from the engine. Yet, once the car warms up, the clatter totally subsides and the car runs and drives normally. Turn the car off and then start it again, the clatter comes back - but then in a minute or so the clatter is gone and all is well. I've checked the fan area and belts - nothing is caught in there. Seems like the sound is coming more from the engine. Can't figure it out. By the way - did I mention that the car now has 338,000 miles on the odometer? Other than that, the car runs fine. Is it time to give up the ghost?

View 7 RepliesIt took a long time to figure it out where this rattle was coming from, when I did i was on my road trip to Smokey Mountains, i couldn't wait to get to the dealer and just solved it myself.
Just extend the arm rest and raise it you will find a rectangle shaped plastic which moves back and forth, remove this plastic. Be careful when pulling it out, or you might end up like i did (check pic), i don't intend to put the plastic back. Center arm rest raised and extended out.

Purchased a 2015 GtI Autobahn 4 door in Jan. Have had a rattle coming from the rear. Put set screws in the bottom shelf and removed the removable top shelf but still have the noise.
View 12 RepliesI know this is a long shot but experienced a rattle coming from the center vent section and have a fix for it? Normally small rattles don't bother me, and it's a VW, but it's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio, so it's particularly annoying.
I took the headunit and vent out, tried to tighten the screws that secures the structure that holds the headunit in and looked around, didn't see anything. If you apply pressure to the top of the center vent it makes the rattle go away too.
So at this point, I'll have to take it into the dealer unless someone has a found a fix for it. 3,000 miles and three problems that have required trips to the dealership /end rant
I have this rattle coming from underneath the car that's been going on for a while.
The car has 110k miles and the rattle is most prominent when I start the car or accelerate hard or just cruising downhill without gas.
I went to one of the well known shops in the area and they said it's coming from the cat and it needs to be replace and quoted me like $1300 for parts and labor which seemed quite steep to me.
They said it's coming from the inside the cat so it needs to be replaced.
Is this a common issue with our cars? I though maybe something is loose and can be just welded together or something.
I have a rattle coming from my drivers door now that just started. It is quite annoying but I would rather fix it myself rather than bring it into the dealer.

Roughly 6,000km so far and started noticing a rattle coming from the front passenger seat. Initially I thought it was the fuel line problem that some have been having so I contacted my dealer and they stated my particular car wasn't flagged for that recall at all.
The weird part is that the rattle goes away if I even lightly place my hand on the seat, an comes back as soon as I take my hand off. I got under the seat to see if it was a wire connection hitting the metal of the seat and everything appears to be in order.
So finally got around to tracking down a rattle I had when driving over roads with choppy pavement (pretty much everywhere around here). There was a clinking kind of rattle coming from the rear of the car. Pulled everything out of the trunk including the spare tire and the noise was still there. Turns out its the rear seat pass through. The rattle is in the thing itself - its not the pass through rattling against the rear seat.
Removed the pass through, rattle gone. But now there is a hole in my rear set .. Guess I could ask the dealer to get me another one, but I'm betting this isn't that uncommon. I would have been happy to just have a split rear seat without the stupid pass through actually...
Have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. 91K miles. On startup-cold or warm-there is a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine for about 3-5 seconds then it goes away. Happens on every single start. Sound like it's coming from driver side on top of engine, but hard to pin point.
View 3 RepliesI did a quick search on the 'creaking' or 'rattle' noise seemingly coming from the B-Pillar and found just a bunch of complaints.
Any fix, whether DYI or dealer? It is driving me crazy and is completely unacceptable for a brand new car, of any make or model. What to do and that is what I will do. No matter the measures at this point.
