I'm going to be putting on some H&R street coils and I want to do just enough of a drop so I get the best performance and I'm wondering how big of a drop that would be so that it doesn't ruin the turning and handling
View 6 Repliesinstalled some st coils in my mk6 and I want to get the back a bit lower. I know Ican take the rear perch out but should I use that rubber insulator that came on the stock springs or just the the coil sit right against the top mounting point?
View 10 RepliesLast Saturday, my mechanic friend and I spent the day installing WRD coils on my 2003 Wolfsburg edition Jetta. Took us longer than we thought but we got it all done and we set them at 3/4 max for lowness. I don't want to go any lower and I will probably raise a little bit soon.
Anyways, when I started driving I noticed a rear clunking sound, it's especially noticeable at slower speeds. Every single tiny little bump and sounds like someone is dropping boxes in my trunk. I checked my trunk and took everything out and that still didn't work. When my car is stationary and I get out and push on the rear to test the shocks I hear the sound.
My car is bagged with the airlift front struts. wondering if there is any way to get more camber in the front without the performance struts.

Last night i was stopped to see if it was still there after a little driving and it was indeed. So i figured i would try and clear the code to see if that work and it did. I cleared the code and almost instantly with the car still idling, the ticking sound went away.
What could have cause the ticking sounds at all in relation to the cooling system?
I've been having this code come up for a couple weeks now off and on. Currently I am stage 2 Giac. I have the autotech HPFP upgrade and was installed a couple months ago. Recently It threw the code and lasted for a couple days then went away. I notice that if i get on it pretty hard for a while the code will come back, im guessing due to lack of fuel. I pulled the fuel pump and checked the cam follower and it looks almost good as new still. Thought it would be the sensor but doesn't seem like it as the CEL turns off after a while of not getting on it.
View 10 RepliesLike the title states, I've got P2181 (coolant system performance) CEL on again. I've had this code before and finally had everything serviced. It was off for 5k miles! I've spent a lot of time diagnosing this on the previous occurrences, and was 99% certain it was the thermostat due to the coolant temp dropping a notch or so when engine braking* on the interstate for more than a few seconds.
The current issue is mainly that the car will not heat up quite as fast, but it will not go lower from engine braking for a good chunk of time. I'm getting fairly poor MPG compared to what I was getting a month or two ago. The major changes are winter fuel blends and winter tires, which I'm sure affect the MPG a little, but I would hope not as much as I am seeing. Old average was around 27mpg combined and 30 or so for mostly highway, now I'm getting 24 tops. This is likely due to engine temps not being up to allow for most efficient fuel burning.
First plan is to change the CTS and see if that will fix it. If the code comes back after that, I'll have to check the thermostat and coolant mixture, but I wouldn't expect it to last only 5k miles.
Current: 105k
Thermostat and coolant changed at 100k
Water pump at 80k
CTS sometime around 70k
Engine braking lowering temp due to no fuel being ignited and coolant still circulating through the system if thermostat open.
Last night on my way to go get hammered the check engine light popped on...

I have read a few different post, and the last one I read referred to his radiator fans. I know for a fact one of them isn't working and I haven't replaced it yet because it hasn't advisable effected my driving.
So my question is what could be causing this? Also I'm not sure if this matters but my a/c doesn't work either.
The code in question is:
18613 - Performance Malfunction in Cooling System
P2181 - 008 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON
Long story short, there are 5 main reasons this problem can pop up, listed in order of likelihood, least to greatest:
1) Coolant sensor
2) Thermostat
3) Bad fans
4) Coolant mixture
5) Water pump
It's a fun catch-all code that can be thrown from any of those. Given that our cars are approaching the 6 year mark, the coolant sensor & thermostat are the most likely culprits. Most of us up on maintenance have already done the green-top sensor, so it's probably the thermostat. In which case, here is the official changing the thermostat DIY: [URL] .....
If you get this code, first check your fans. They're running? Okay, change your sensor & clear it. If it comes back, change the thermostat. If it still comes back, which has been known to happen, investigate further. [IMG] [URL] .....
just recently purchased an R32 and wanted to know which filter size the r32 uses ? i have never changed a stock filter before because i have always had a cold air intake but have decided to keep the stock air filter on this one.
View 10 RepliesMy CEL is on for P0116 Engine Coolant temp circuit, range or performance problem. I replaced the CTS, thermostat, and did a complete coolant flush/replacement last November. Car worked well over the winter no issues. Last week when the CEL came on it gave me P0301 and P0440 as well. I did a reset and the lights stayed off for the week. Then P0116 came back. Is it possible that the CTS is bad again? I measured the resistance on the CTS and hot it is about 300 ohms and cold is 2.45k ohms.

I've noticed when I put in rubbish fuel, the car runs fine and can hear the turbo spooling and pssting..
When I put in Shell VPower Nitro+ (Standard UK good stuff), the check engine light comes on and performance drops. I tried REVO but they stonewalled me. Thinking of trying the higher boost map..
What is the size bulb for the Fog light. I search but nothing come up.

View 2 Replies'm a former 2004 Jetta GLI owner...looking to get back into the game with a 2013 GTI. One thing I'm confused about is the GPS screen size. Many of the cars I've seen, including my friend's 2013 GLI has the RNS315 with a very small display. On the VW website it shows a much larger display in some of the photos, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a larger display on some of the GTI's I've seen in my neighborhood.

View 15 RepliesI am at the point where I am going to change my tires on my wheels. Currently running BBS RC's which are 8x17 ET32 with tires 225/45/17.
For those who are running wheels with such specs or more "exagerated" have you had your odometer recalibrated to respect the new rolling diameter change or not? If yes what was your easiest solution. I know depending on wheel/tire sizes, various factors can be affected including speed indication.
From all the websites I have seen and asked, I am told that I can go as less a 215 wide but not lower than 45 in "thickness" (if I stay in 17).
My objective is to of course remove rubbing during load and go a bit lower and therefore do not know if 215/45/17 will be enough of a change from 225/45/17.
So with just me in the car i get a clunk in the rear going over medium size cracks in the road. but with the wife and kids in the car the clunk is not as prevalent. VMR springs...

What are type/size are the bolts connecting the tranny to the block?
The 2 bottom ones I got out using (assuming) 10mm (?) triple square.
What size (socket/tool) and type (triple square, torx, allen) are the others?
One of the caliper does not fully retract when I don't push the brake, the wheel is hard to rotate when the car is on the lift.
I pretty sure it is the square ring the problem.
I know that those square ring worth only a couple of bucks.
For about the last two months I've noticed a significant drop in my gas mileage, I usually average anywhere from 20-26mpg depending how I drive, but lately even if I am cruising with the windows up no ac nothing I can't get better than about 18mpg.
Car has about 26xxx miles, evoms intake (which I cleaned out the filter thinking that may have been it) EJ exhaust and just got REVO flashed, but my mileage has been suffering prior to that.
I'm going to the dealer tomorrow for an oil change and spark plug replacement thinking maybe thats it, I've already had the recall done, and always use 91 octane (social area) what it may be?
