Golf/GTI VI :: Polishing Black Plastic Trim Pieces On The Doors?
Mar 16, 2011
I noticed that I have some light scratches on the black plastic trim on outside of the doors (more than likely done by the place that tinted my windows, ). How to buff these out. They are more like micro-scratches and swirl marks more than anything else. I tried car paint polish in a small corner and it had no effect.

I was washing my car today and noticed that the trim pieces inside of the front doors are missing. The drivers door has a screw in it and the passenger door has a little plastic bumper and it just falls out if you touch it. I don't remember this piece ever being there before and there is no screw on this door right now. The pieces that I am talking about next extend along the door edge to finish it off. I remember these pieces because when I washed my car and wiped the door edges for the first time I recalled my MKV GTI not having this piece. My car was at a local shop for a couple of days and I think someone came in to visit and took these. The shop is very loosie goosie about letting their friends walk around the shop floor.
I was wondering if someone could shoot a pic of their door edges for me. I am going to order this part on Monday.

Looking for info about some part numbers? I'm looking for the silver aluminum trim on the driver inside door. Where you rest your left arm. Also the driver black air vent assy all the way on the left where the headlight switch goes.

The interior trim pieces that are located where the ceiling intersects with the door are falling out. I tried using Gorilla glue to hold them in place but the heat keeps melting it. If I order the new part from the dealer is the trim easy to install myself?

Both of my doors do it, especially as they are heating up and cooling down. If you push on them you can hear the same noise that they make while driving.

Here goes, I just took ownership in the last month of a Hyundai Accent GS(2000). Car's been going great, but I have now found an annoying issue with a vibration coming through the dash. When I'm accelerating in all gears (and esp up hill when the car is under pressure), a Vibration starts in the dash and stays until I am roughly over 3000 revs. I'm in Ireland, so the car is Right Hand Drive. The Vibration sounds like it is coming from behind the speedo clocks near to windscreen.
So far, I have removed the Center Console and Stereo and the Vibration stays there. I've reached in behind the console and cant find any vibration there. I have also driven with the speedo clocks removed and putting my hand into the space trying to find the vibration.....but no joy.
The vibration itself sounds like a plastic trim in the dash (or behind the dash), but it has my stomped! Can it be something in the engine causing it? Engine ticks over fine, not lumpy in anyway.

Just got my 2012 Prius. The interior plastic trim squeaks when pressed by hand/knee or during cornering and bumps. I'm talking about the center console and flying bridge thing, door panels, ect. I'm in the process of upgrading speakers and adding limit amounts of sound deadener. I thought about adding silicon grease on the plastic tabs that hold the plastic together....does that sound like a good idea. The main offender is the arm rest console box.

How to remove the plastic dash trim on the Passenger side? Is there a way to do this without removing the glovebox? I know there is one screw that needs to be removed. Mine creaks pretty badly. Ive already removed the center console trim and added felt to all those pieces. No more ticks/ creaks.
I guess I could have the dealer remove it but I dont want them taking my glovebox out to do it = more rattles. Why does VW make it so difficult to remove something that should be so simple!!

How the black trim on the bottom of the front bumper of a 2011 Elantra GLS is removed . I am talking about the black lip or air dam in the center. Does it just pull off or are there clips or something.

Was the plastic exterior trim on my 01 F250 originally black or grey? I was thinking of repainting the running boards, side mirrors, door handles, front bumper trim and bed trim with that Dupicolor bumper black. Want to make sure and keep it factory in appearance.

I recently removed the top plastic cover on my '05 Camry LE V6 to pull a plug and inspect/decide if I was going to change them out. While I felt I was being careful handling the plastic cover, I grabbed it by the access hole for the oil filler cap. Walking back into the garage, some black carbon came off, and looking at the bits on the ground, and what was left on the inside of the cover, I'm not sure if there is supposed to be a gasket there.
Maybe it was just an accumulation of spilled oil over the years that has trapped and "cooked", or something put in place to capture spilled oil. I scraped the rest of the carbon off using a razor blade and cleaned it up before installing the cover.

My wife had a disagreement with the garage door this morning while trying to back my Prius out that ended with the little plastic cap that covers the joint of the rear washer being broken (It wasn't more serious!). I know it's a minor thing, but I take pristine care of my Prius and I'm a self-admitted OCD.

Found a small black piece of either plastic or metal about half the size of a fingernail in the oil when checking it last night. When I took the oil cap off it was on the spindle part. About a month ago I saw another same size piece just in the top area just when you take the cap off and look in the oil case.
Its my 2nd round of using 5w20 valvoline full synthetic oil. Im hoping this is just extra sludge/debris being cleaned out? After reading around It sounds like it could be a much more serious problem with bearing, or pistons/rings.
This car has a serious problem with oil consumption, I always try to stay on top of oil levels and am actually taking it in to the dealership to have it Flashed with the latest TSB for it. Just got a new battery, fuel injectors cleaned every 1-2k, throttlebody just cleaned 2k miles ago.
I literally just did an oil change and did a small trip of 300 miles, next morning had a dry start... had to add about 1/4 qt and this morning and then was fine.
Car has 98.5k miles 2009 corolla S

I have a 95.5 Isuzu Rodeo, V6, 165k and am having a hell of a time finding parts. Apparently every issue I am having, so is everyone else by the looks of the salvage yards.
Interior door handles. All my doors went to shit within a month of each other. The black plastic piece that attaches the handle has snapped. In all of them.
Also, the tailgate will not disengage. I can press the button in front and you can hear it click, but not catch. The key will not open it either.
The back window motors are out or in the process of going out.

I live in Michigan and we recently had a 8 inch snowfall. While parking my 2010 Prius it bottomed on the snow pile which took two pieces of black plastic off of the underneath front area of my car. I assume the plastic is for aerodynamics.

I just joined up after purchasing a CPO 2010 Prius IV. Love the car but after taking a closer look I noticed that one side of the bottom black plastic cover was drooping on one side. Upon closer inspection I noticed that there was a screw and plastic Grommet combination that was not locked into place. After unscrewing the screw, I tried to put the grommet back in place but noticed that it couldn't fit because (I believe) the white bumper portion where the grommet goes broke off. I compared it to the other side of the car and yes it does seem like part of the plastic top portion that is connected to the bumper broke off.
I inspected the bottom some more and it seems like there are a good number of screws missing and a large plastic piece that is the front tire well is also very loose.

what material is used for the stock airbox? The 90 degree "snorkel" intake tube that is held on by two rivets on my airbox has a tab at one rivet that is cracked. This allows the snorkel to move around and come unsealed from the main airbox. It is "pre-filter" so there is no performance issue, but I would like it to stay in place and look right.
Depending on the material, I was going to shave some slivers from a thicker part of the box and mix it with a solvent to make a paste and apply it to the crack. This will only work if the material "melts" in strong solvents like acetone/MEK. Once it dries, it will be good as new. I have done this many times with ABS and PVC. There is a small gap to fill so simply gluing might not be as strong.
