Feb 2, 2013
Tiptronic using the shift knob works fine, but the paddles just stopped working all of the sudden.

View 4 RepliesSo I bought the carbon paddle shifters that Khoa was selling from the first carbon steering wheel he got.
Having already replaced my OEM steering wheel with the flat-bottomed version, I was familiar with the process for removing what I needed to change the shifters over.
Everything went fine, and after checking all the connections were good, I re-installed the steering wheel, re-connected the battery, and took the car for a test-drive.
At first I left the car in auto, and tried using the paddles. Nothing. Flicked the shifter over to manual-mode, and it popped up I was in 4th. Tried shifting with the paddles to go up or down, but nothing.
I was short for time, so had to leave it like that for a few days.
I then removed the wheel again, and reinstalled my OEM silver shifters. Took the car out for another test-drive, and it works fine.
Khoa was kind enough to speak to the guys that sell these along with the very nice steering wheels everyone is talking about. They suggested I swap over the paddles so I keep the electrics of my OEM shifters. The paddles themselves are only held in with a gudgeon pin, which tapped out quite easily. The paddle itself slots in to a hole in a metal piece inside the plastic end pieces. Looks as if it simply moves up and down when you flick the paddle front or backwards.
I mounted the carbon paddles into my OEM electrics, and tapped the gudgeon pins back into place. I then re-assembled the steering wheel, check the connections, and re-installed the wheel. Re-connected the battery and took the car for a test-drive with everything firmly crossed.
Nothing!
The paddles won't work at all. Not up or down. I am so confused as to why they don't work. I can't see any differences between the OEM silver paddles and the carbon versions. Not sure what my next move will be. I need to try putting the OEM paddles back together, and see if they work. If they do, I am baffled as to what the fundamental difference can be between the two?
So I have read that you can downshift while in D or S mode with the paddle shifters. Is this true?
View 4 RepliesMy car is at the dealer and keeps throwing this code after I had my paddle shifters removed. Everything worked fine before. the dtc is 01748 tiptronic up shift switch on steering wheel open circuit.
View 10 RepliesI have a metallic grey 2012 SE V6 Camry. While the car is in drive mode, not S mode, I accidentally pressed the paddle shifters while turning and the car went into manual mode. The blue lit display on the dash said D for drive, but it had the gear numbers next to it and I could down or upshift at will. In order to get out of manual mode I have to stop the car, put it in S mode and then back in drive, bc I heard u weren't supposed to shift bet drive and sport mode while the car is in motion. Is this normal?, How to take the car out of manual mode without putting it in S mode then back to drive?
View 4 Replies08 R32. Having problems with their A/C. It was working one week an not the next. There is no sign of any leaks or any damage to any hoses or the compressor. There is power to compressor but doesn't seem as if the clutch is engaging.
View 5 RepliesMy kessy key fob stopped transmitting . no more keyless entry or keyless starting. Buttons still work and i can start the car by holding the key fob on the steering column. I used my vag com to check key fob signal and there is none. Its the key fob because my wifes key fob is still transmitting and i can read a signal on it. Its annoying driving around with the key not in range message popping up all the time. This is why you can drive the car without a key fob in it. I know people were complaining about that but it makes since know if your key fob stops transmitting so you don't get stranded. Any ways a trip to the dealer and a hour and half for them to figure out what i told them, they ordered me a new key fob.not sure why they wouldn't stock a key fob but now i have to go back when it comes in for them to reprogram it. Good thing im still under warranty. I am scared how much this will cost when not in warrenty. Having regrets about the kessy system now.
View 1 RepliesI hit my panic button to located car at school and I hit it again nothing turned off alarm kept going off then I hit unlock button horn sound went away but my hazards were still flashing. As I hit it again it was a delayed reaction and finally my hazards went off the buttons ony remote were a bit delayed to work after all that my fogs stopped working bought a new relay and checked all fuses still not turning on also hooked it up to VAG and it was reading the lights
View 15 RepliesAre you on the trailer life website as well? I think I've seen you there. I noticed you had a Touareg too. Do you pull a Touareg behind a Motorhome? I was wondering if the Treg can be used as a tow vehicle.
View 4 RepliesTwo weeks ago my airbag light came on and I got an airbag fault message. A week later the MFD controls on the steering wheel and the DSG paddles just stopped working. I had searched around and found that some people had issues with the clock spring. I brought the car to the dealership and they mentioned that maybe it was the clock spring, but after checking everything out they told me that the horn buttons needed to be replaced and that they were causing the issue. I have a hard time believing that this is the issue because the airbag fault popped up a week before the MFD controls and DSG paddles stopped working.
View 1 RepliesThis morning I started my car and all was well, all gauges working. Drove 2 miles and stopped to get gas. Put some gas in my car and started it back up. My gas gauge never went up. Stayed slammed down to the E. All my other gauges were working normally except the gas. My gas light was not on saying I was on E, and I don't have a CEL.
View 5 RepliesThe tachometer in my 2010 golf recently stopped working. it just sits at 0 RPM's no matter what. I'm not sure if it is a fuse or something else has gone wrong. I'm not even sure which fuse to replace to try and fix the problem.
View 1 RepliesA couple months ago my Key Fob stopped working. I tried using the button and then tried to use the key to unlock the door. I'm trying to figure out if there is a possibility that the immobilizer in my fob is junk or maybe its something as easy as changing the battery (which is another issue in itself because I cant open the fob for the life of me) Once again just curious if there is something I can do to fix this issue without contacting and dealing with the dealership. Would like to be able to lock my car again at some point.
View 3 RepliesA few months ago I'm key fobs stopes working the I switched out the batteries and still no progress. What it could be?
View 3 Repliesmy gas gauge started to act all crazy about a month ago, and just as soon as today my speedometer stop working I really don't know what is the problem.
View 1 RepliesMy fuel gauge just quit working along with the "miles till refuel" in the message center on my R. Before I suck it up with a trip to the dealer, Is there a sensor on the fuel tank that goes bad?
View 3 RepliesJust picked up 2010 2.0 T GTI. Horn was working fine up until today. Just randomly stopped. Could it be that the horn goes that abrupt?
Checked the fuse, it's good.
Today my window switches stopped working on me. How much is a new switch? Do I actually have to replace the switch or maybe some wiring got loose?
View 22 RepliesRecently upgraded to a 2015 DSG PP pearl white 2-door GTI. I'm really enjoying the car. It is my third GTI (MK IV, MK VI) but the first automatic. On the morning commute to work today my DSG straight up stopped working. While trying to accelerate from completely stopped at a stop light my transmission seemed to slip out of gear followed by the engine reving freely... A message appeared to "Press Brake". I had to stop my car in the middle of an intersection and then magically the transmission stuck in gear and i made it to the next stop light. Unfortunately at this light I was never able to get my car back in gear... I tried reverse as well as S mode shifting into 2nd or 3rd.
Had to get towed to the nearest dealership... at least I got to try out the carnet feature . Basically it is a glorified operator who will request a local tow truck for you. FYI.. I thought that the service would at least notify the service dept at the dealer it was being towed to (nope!). 5 hours later they gave me my car back saying that the cable between the ECU and DSG had come loose and that was the only problem.
So far the car seems to be driving like a champ again... I'm just a bit concerned as to how a cable can magically come loose and cause my car to be inoperable. The main reason I upgraded from my 2010 gti was the peace of mind that the car was going to be dependable...
A few questions... Is it feasible that a loose cable was the only issue? If so... how can a cable magically come loose after 2200 miles of driving? I could see this being an issue from the manufacturer but would think it would happen much sooner during the break in process.
The reverse light has stopped working on my MKIV TDi. Done all the usual things I can like bulbs/fuses.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2010 Jetta TDI Sportwagen and the blower fan stopped working (again).
About 3 months ago it stopped working on the 1-3 setting and 4 worked fine. So I searched these forums and found the resistor pack was blown. Replaced it with the ~$30 official VW part and it worked fine until last week.
Now all settings are not working. I ohm'd out the resistor pack and they appear to be fine. I put a current limited 12v supply on the fan and it spun up without a problem. I checked the voltage coming from the car to the fan connector and it was at 0v.
From reading the forums this tends to point to a faulty switch. If it is a fault switch then why does the AC light turn on when I switch from 0 to 1?
