Golf/GTI VI :: Notching Frame For The Axle?

Apr 10, 2013

I am about to install my coils and I just wanted to ask what is the lowest drop you can have without having to notch the frame for the axle? I have read most of you guys bang your axle on your frame and dent it or just mark it up but would 23.5" ftg be a problem for daily driving?

Golf/GTI VI :: Frame Notch Went Smooth / Axle Is Dangerously Close To Turbo Outlet

Frame notch went smooth, we pulled the bag and disconnected the axle from the hub and just pulled everything out of the way. When we reassembled everything, the wheel now pokes 3/4-1 inch more than it did before. We pulled the axle back out and realigned it and made sure it seated properly and messed with the strut and its bolt to make sure there was no play or anything (it was reinstalled with the same orientation), but nothing seemed to change it. Could just disconnecting those two things cause the camber to go out of whack that badly? When installing the bags I didn't run into this issue and the camber was barely even off when I got it aligned. Trying to find out what could possibly cause it to get that far off. When I installed the bags the camber and toe barely even changed.

Also, I can't even air out all the way now because the wheels were a perfect fit before, and now they poke too much... but with 17 psi in the right front bag, the axle is dangerously close to the turbo outlet. Seems to feel like barely a business card could fit between the two. The frame notch was done correctly and was the 5th one my buddy has done.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2013 - Front Frame Bent - Replace Whole Frame?

Bought a 2013 FX4 two weeks ago to replace my 94 F150 and got to enjoy it for a whole 10 days before I got rear ended at a stop light. The car hit me doing between 30-40, fast enough to make her airbags go off, and it was hard enought to force the bed to hit the cab. Unfortunately, the damage is more than cosmetic body work. The bottom of the bed is pushed up under the bedliner and the frame is bent in front of where the leaf spring connects. My concern is that the adjuster will want to "fix" the frame and I will be stuck with a lifetime of alignment issues, suspension issues, etc. I know the rear of the frame is not as much an issue as if the front was bent, but I don't know how they could fix it without cutting it and welding in a new piece, and how can I know that the frame is true?

Golf IV R32 :: Seat Frame Broke - What To Do

Over the past few months I've been hearing a popping sound from under my seat when I move a certain way and figured it was just the cold or another new sound well today I found out it was the seat frame mount and it finally snapped, pictures to follow.

Went to the dealer they quoted part/labor is gonna be around $1000 so I took it to a friends shop to see if he can weld it or if it's too far gone, should be getting it fixed this week, for now it's zip ties and really cautious driving.

Golf IV R32 :: Vibration Under Load, Bad Axle?

I have some vibration issues with my car and i think it can be related to my left frontaxle, as i saw it was leaking a little under inspection. The vibration is not there when just rolling, it happens only when i give it a little load, like in high gears and low speed and light throttle and is gone when leaving off throttle. The vibration is felt in the steering wheel and in whole car. The strange with all this is that some days there is nothing and some days it is there constant, it seems to change with the weather, if its colder outside, can it still be the axle? I have contacted raxles 2-3 times without any response so my solution is to buy a oem axle for high $$ and see if the problem will be solved.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 02 - Axle Came Loose From The Tranny

I have an 02 Jetta the the left CV Axle came loose from the tranny/axle flange. I checked the Bentley and it shows that a bolt holds the flange on, I guess a spline. My question when taking one off, is there anything inside that will drop/pop off when I pull it? The reason I need to take it off is that some of the bolts actually broke off, while others screwed their way out. Not sure why they came out or what made the others break but they did. It would be so much easier to get the broken bolts out with the flange out.

Golf/GTI VII :: Clunk From Rear Axle Only Happens After Car Has Been Sitting For A While

I'm currently at ~4300 mi, and I'm probably going to cash in on my free oil change at 5k and have the dealer do the radio software update to fix the 87.7 issue, and have them look into this as well.

Here's what happens. Get into the car after its been sitting long enough to completely cool down. Put it in Drive, take the brake off, and start driving. The first time you apply the brake, you hear a "clunk" from the rear axle, sometimes quiet, sometimes louder. After that it will not make the noise again until it has been sitting and cooled all the way down.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is there's something messed up with one of the parking brake shoes.

Golf/GTI VI :: Slight Vibration Between 40 To 50 Mph - Bent Axle?

Driving home from work today I hit the largest pothole in my life (seriously). I had a slight vibration between 40-50mph after the impact. Got home took the wheel off and it bent it partially and bubbled the sidewall of the tire. No worries I have the VW wheel/tire protection and can get it repaired and get a new tire. What really concerns me is the right side axle. It clearly hit the frame of the car and is indented slightly. As I turn the axle by hand I can tell it's slightly off on one side. My question is do I need a new axle? Or do you think the indent is throwing me off when I spin it making it look unbalanced?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Way To Install CV Axle?

I am stuck in the process of replacing a driver side CV axle on a 2000 Jetta VR6 automatic. I followed a Youtube video that may have misguided me. I removed the ball joint connection to take out the axle. (I will need a alignment after all this.) I was able to take out the old cv axle, but unable to put the new one on. While taking out the old one, the strut sank 2 inches. I then disconnected the suspension from the braking system, so it would be lighter and easier to push the strut up. However, it will not budge upwards. Do I need to compress the spring? How to move the strut up?

Golf IV R32 :: Front Swaybar Hitting Axle After Lowering

I just installed some Neuspeed sport springs with Koni sport shocks on my .:R and it appears like my swaybar is knocking against my front axle on the driver side.

Now, I read somewhere that is not supposed to be possible, but I can see the marks on the axle. Also, the swaybar link looks like it is twisted quite a bit with the new struts. And, when I look at them with the car on the ground, the distance between the swaybar and the axle looks to be at least 2 inches.

Do I need to center the swaybar? Maybe my control arm bushings are worn out really bad? The camber on the front of my car is -1.4 on both sides.

Golf IV R32 :: Driver Side Axle Keeps Sliding Out From Its Position In The Differential

The setup is:

MK IV .:R32 with 99,000 miles
Stage 2 clutch with 16.5 lbs. single mass flywheel

The clutch, flywheel & throw-out bearing all have about 20,000 miles on them

For some strange reason it looks like my driver's side axle keeps sliding out from it's position in the differential. This 1st happened after I did a dyno run about 6,000 miles ago. I lost half of my transmission fluid cause the axle shaft back out about a half inch. I guess the spindle stopped the shaft from backing out all the way. It appears to have happen again. What holds this axle in position? What keeps the axle from backing off like this?

My shop said the bearing/seal looked new and in good condition. Besides, it's a $15 part. We believed that the axle just snapped into position but after 4 nights at the drag strip it appears to be leaking again.

CV joints look good. Axle looks good. Transmission and differential all look good. Dog gone axle just keeps sliding out. Did the dyno runs damage something?

ALSO, on night two I did 4 strong passes back to back. Some with wheel slip and others hooked up solid. That night I developed THE HAMSTER WHEEL. Thought it was just a heat shield but I hear a noise that can only be explained by HAMSTER WHEEL. It only seems to happen when driving slow and on then off the clutch. Is it the dust shield? Is my rear main seal damaged? Or is it my timing chains on the way out. It only sounds funny at slow speeds with clutch movement. Too hard to trouble shoot alone.

Golf V R32 :: Clicking When Reverse Down On Drive Way And At Low Speeds - Axle Replacement?

I'm almost 99% positive I need to replace my Drivers Front Axle Assembly. I can feel it "click" when I reverse down my drive way and at low speeds regardless whether I turn the wheel. However, at street speeds, you can no longer feel it. I wanted to know if all Axles aftermarket are created equal.

Can I go with the one from ECS : [URL] ..... Or is this a part where staying OEM is important?
