Golf/GTI VI :: Noises When Going Over Inclined Driveway
Oct 21, 2010
I get noises from my 2010 GTI at stress points within the car when I go over a inclined drive way at an angle or when I hit a bump.

View 7 RepliesWhen the car is in a situation where there is a twisting force, such as entering an inclined driveway from an angle, a loud POP is sometimes heard from the rear of the car. The intensity of the POP varies dependent on speed and angle of incline, higher speed/greater incline/decline produce a louder POP.
View 4 RepliesII noticed some oil spots in my driveway and wasn't sure if it was my car, so I put cardboard down and a couple hours later there was oil on it! I put the car up on ramps and there was oil all over the bottom of the oil pan, transmission and you could see where oil had at one point ran down from the top of block where the transmission mounts, but it wasn't fresh like everything else. Also, the diverter valve was covered in oil. I do have a forge dv spacer and the upgraded diverter valve installed and was wondering if this could be the source. The weird thing is that there is no trail that I can see from the diverter valve area to the oil that has collected on the bottom of the engine.
View 14 RepliesI have an APR stage 1+, HPPF, Carbonio intake. First thing EVERY morning my car will give a noticeable hesitation when pulling out of my driveway. After this 1 time event, the car rides perfectly. It happened every day. I was told this is gas pooling or some such issue.
View 11 RepliesPulled into my driveway one night and a get a AFS failure.
Lights work, everything functions correctly, except my headlights don't level. I've seen some threads refer to it as the "dance".
I have the light out warning on the dash and every time i start my car it says "AFS FAILURE" or something across those lines.
I replaced my headlight level sensor and made sure the level sensor is pointing the correct way (toward the driver side) and that didn't fix it.
My car is lowered, but this issue didn't happen until recently. I do also have Euro Headlights, these were installed months ago. Way before this issue came up aswell.
I had to raise the car a bit to clear the apr turbo outlet pipe. Raised a little too much and was hearing a clunking sound pulling into my driveway or speedbumps, etc. Contacted HR and they said the coilovers have an operating range and to lower them a bit. So.. i have about 3/8" of thread left on both fronts and my (not so scientific measuring method) fender/ground is 24" vs 26.25 stock as measured on a stock gti on my dealer lot. I still have a ton of thread to drop the car (about 1.5") as seen in the picture below. The issue i have is what the spring looks like. It rides fine in my day to day commute so its not noticeable but looking at it, it looks collapsed??
View 13 RepliesHad the 2003 Jetta in for inspection, and he said the rear brake caliper was gone. SO he replaced it.
Now in the morning when I leave for work, as I go up my steep driveway, the brake warning light comes on and beeps at me. Then it stops.
On the way home, as I come up the steep road to my driveway, the warning light comes on and beeps at me!
All other times and all other driving, it's fine.
I installed KW V3 coilovers back in October. About a week ago I started getting a popping noise in the left rear suspension when going over speed bumps or up my driveway from the street at certain angles. I could not find any evidence of the springs binding, but did notice that there was some separation of rubber around the plastic center of the rubber mount beneath the spring. This likely the problem or loose sub frame bolts?
View 1 RepliesMy Gti has been sitting in my driveway unused for a couple months now. The condensation in it has been unusually heavy when parked. The carpet is dry, doesn't smell damp inside, no coolant smell. Windshield was replaced 2year ago never had a prob with it so idk if it's that that's leaking, but what would the signs of that be? But what I really think it could be is that my recirculating flap is stuck closed. Could that be it?
View 9 RepliesThis only happens once or twice a week. After driving the car for 20+ minutes and sitting in the driveway, it will start running hot. I'd say around 230 degrees and it will stay there until I start driving the car again. I made sure the fans work and I also checked the coolant level and both are fine. What could be causing this issue?
View 2 RepliesI have a Jetta Mk IV, yesterday I went to go drive it and just as I pulled out of the driveway it started running rough, so I pulled back in the driveway and the coolant temperature sensor light came on, then the check engine light. and then it died. Then today I tried starting it, and it will only start and run if I have the gas pedal all the way to the floor, and it runs really rough. Then it will die. I thought maybe the coolant temp sensor since the light came on. I replaced that, and it still does it. I'm leaning towards a head gasket.
View 2 RepliesI've done as much research as possible, why my Jetta won't start. Here's what happened. I've had the car for 11 months now, put in a new clutch, timing belt, water pump, cool packs, valve cover gaskets, 3" stainless downpipe, and rear springs when I got the car. My rear 02 sensor wire was hanging down below the car, after the downpipe installation. I didn't think much of it until the car died going down my driveway on a rainy day (Had a CEL for a vacuum leak) but right when it died I threw a scanner at it and I got a "no communication with ECM" message.
Cranks but doesn't start and CEL doesn't come back. I did some research and found out that my o2 sensors are in the same circuit or system. Well I found that 2 wires from the rear o2 sensor had shorted out and caused my car to die. I checked the 100 and 428 relays under the hood and they click like normal and seem to be working fine, pulled apart ecm and all looks well and so I reassembled it. The 409 fuse under the dash had just a tiny bit of soot or something covering a few of the prongs so I took the black plastic cap off of it and everything looks ok. Reassembled and reinstalled. Put a new crankshaft position sensor in it. Still nothing. None of the fuses in the side panel are blown either. I'm scratching my head on this one.
Attached is a video of my car going over speed bumps. It sounds like a rusty bed spring :/ I dont know what to do. The dealership told me that everything is fine, but i dont believe that.
On another side note, i am also experiencing misfires a lot, and the car feels a little under powered. I dont know what part to replace but i was hoping to get some info on what to do, and yes i took it to the dealer, nothing showed up on the vag and like the previous issue they said the car is fine!! My ideal situation is to have someone drive it and confirm that there's an issue, and then obviously to fix the issue.
Hear struts on rough surfaces in parking lots or other rough surfaces at low speeds? It is something that I started noticing and I'm not sure if it is a standard VW thing or if it indicating some sort of premature failure. My previous car didn't do that (wrx) but I know every car manufacturer is a bit different.
Having gone through dealerships in the past for sounds that were not that loud I don't feel it is worthy of a dealership trip unless it gets more audible. They usually just say they heard nothing and everyone tells me I am ...
I want to get VWR springs but if I can hear the struts now it makes me wonder if it will accelerate failure. As stated above, I don't notice it at any normal driving speed, just slow maneuvering on rougher surfaces.
I have a 2013 4 Door Golf MK6 with the following:
DG springs
225 X45 X17"
Hotchkis RSB ( set on the softest setting which is 90% stiffer over the OEM one)
Neuspeed Endlinks
About two weeks ago I started hearing some creaking noises coming from the rear of my car. I thought, I need to put some grease to the RSB bushings, but this didn't work. After a close inspection I notice that the sway bar was rubbing.
The RSB was installed about 3 1/2 months ago and didn't have any issues. What could be causing the problem? I am suspecting the endlinks are going to be culprit. the car is used as a daily driver. what endlinks would you recommend to get?
My Golf R is at 40,000 miles, and I am hearing some squeaking/screeching noises when braking. thinking I need my brake pads replaced. At that mileage and with hard driving/braking, should I replace my front and rear pads?
View 12 RepliesSo I just replaced my upper strut bushings and bearings and there's still noises coming from the struts or idk what it is but its coming from up front and when I back up and turn the wheel or when I am driving down my drive way there's little bumps and once i drive over them the car just makes all this noise. Pretty much what else could it be? are my struts blown? or could it be something is loose?
View 14 RepliesWhat is making this noise? car fired up fine this morning, drove it to work and once i exited the highway, idle started bouncing slightly and it seemed like the car was trying to compensate for something. every once in a while it will jump to 1000 rpm then try to settle but still the idle is choppy. and then there is this noise. Does not seem to the be the belts and to be honest I cant really pinpoint its location i think its loudest under the intake manifold. it sounds like a bad bearing to me but from where? O and I checked codes, nothing accept my regular emissions delete codes. I don't have immediate access to VAG-COM so that's out for the time being. also another detail, if i rev the car the noise does not seem to get any louder in fact it disappears mostly.
View 1 RepliesMy R has recently started making some horrible grinding noises and was getting a ton of vibration in the pedals. I let it sit after I got home that night and made an appointment for vw. Blah blah blah
It turns out the previous owner had an aftermarket clutch installed in the car, and the flywheel and clutch were reinstalled with all hardware finger tight. I drove the car for a yaer and a half, 30k, without knowing until the sound started.
Ive been told the clutch is now destroyed and warranty wont cover it. VW says I need a new flywheel and clutch kit. Since they aren't covering it, I am thinking maybe upgrades are in order.
Should i stay with oem flywheel and clutch? Or go with a lightened flywheel and stage 1 clutch etc. Is it worth it to upgrade?
Mods are c2 race file, evoms cai, koni coils, usp hi flow cats in the test pipe, short throw kit. I will have cams installed at some point and it might see sc down the road. No turbo or big hp.
I get this thumping noise during shifting at times. It doesn't always happen but I hear it somewhat frequently. It's a deep thump coming from the transmission during shift.
View 6 RepliesIn recent months I hear some new noises at cold start. First is coming from the front of the car, a few seconds I start reversing from a cold start, sounds like an automobile equivalent of my back cracking. Not metallic, more plastic-ish. Could this be "pad slap" from my front brakes? It happens about 75% of the time after a cold start. Second is from the rear-end but that is consistently linked to the first time I depress the break pedal once the car is in Drive, again after a cold start. Its more like a one-shot "thud" whereas the front-end noise is a bit more elongated.
