I noticed that there is no parking light position on the headlight switch, so how does the headlight switch work? Either all OFF or all on? Or is the on position really "auto"
View 10 RepliesI went test drove a R32 today and I noticed when the headlight switch is in the off position, the HID came on when I release the hand brake, is this normal? I thought the DRL suppose to be the inner two halogen lights not the HID. This way, having a switch is kinda pointless except to turn on/off the the instrumental lights because you have the HID on whenever you release the parking brake, doesn't matter if the switch is in the off position or the on/lowbeam position.
View 12 RepliesI suppose it could be unrelated but yesterday i was showing my coworker how easy it was to remove the headlight switch on my 2010 golf tdi (he has an a3). I took it out of the slot, unplugged it, plugged it back in, and slid it back into place. im sure i didnt yank on the wiring harness but who knows. I went to turn on my car and now i have an airbag fault showing up for the driver seat position sensor. I looked under the seat and everything is still plugged in, along with in the little access panel where the wiring goes.

I tried to reset it but it comes right back on.
This morning I drove the car for about 40 mins and everything was fine.
In the afternoon, I tried to start the car. Just found the ABS light was on and the gear was locked at the parking position. I couldn't push down the small button that releases the gear. Of course I was pressing the brake pad when I did this, but it seemed like the system did NOT know it, so it wouldn't allow me to change the gear. I tried several times but no luck.
At night, I tried again. This time the ABS light was off and the gear moved as normal.
I have the feeling that it's due to some sensor, but not sure. What shall I do to make sure this won't happen.
So my headlight switch is literally On/Off. I disabled the DRL by folding down the pin inside. But I am replacing my headlights with a custom projector housing with HID lows, halogen highs, LED Fogs, and CCFL halos, so I'd like the ability to turn on just parking lights or just the fog lights to show off the Halos etc. If I pick up a Bora Switch that has these features, will I have to re-wire/run through fuse box, etc.

What would be a close color match to my LED parking light which looks sort of bluish? The new parking light LEDs are 6000K color temperature.
TPMS light was on. It was the spare , added more air. Then checked the other tires, one was low too and added air. Now TPMS light stays off no matter what position the TPMS switch is in. The light used to come on when switch was in the 'wrong' position.

My sunroof opened on the highway today with the switch in the closed position. Being a Seattleite, this could create a very wet condition in the cabin! I have owned the car for two years and have never experienced this before.

So I normally drive in D, and I use the tow/haul switch when trailing...so under what circumstances does the normal person need to manually shift through 5 gear positions using M, and the 5-position switch?

kept the Auto switch in...
with the DRL's activated (they are in the fog light position):
Off: DRLs
Auto: full lighting on
Parking: DRLs (plus I can use rear fog)
Low beam: full lighting (plus front & rear fogs)
and since activating the coming home and leaving home... the coming home works on "auto" position.
I have a 2008 prius that right after purchasing I found to have the condensation in the headlight problem, the dealer advised to replace the whole headlight assembly to avoid damage to the generator so I did. I did not have it done at the dealer due to the cost but at a prius certified mechanic at another location. Needless to say when he installed the headlight something was not done right and as a result the amber parking light is not coming on when the rest of the headlights are turned on.
I didn't notice this for a while and then when I did I neglected to get it fixed while under warranty for the labor. The strange thing is the light flashes when I lock and unlock my door, just won't come on with the other headlights. I tried replacing the bulb when I replaced my HID today but still the same result.
So noticed my cruise control does not work when I turn switch to on position the green light in cluster does not come on what are some problems that I could look into and also any example of using turn signal Bulbs in the head lights as drl lights instead of it running off of the actually headlight bulb?
View 9 RepliesRear wiper stays on regardless of switch position. It runs as if the switch was on - intermittently. No critters chewing, Stops with the fuse pulled. We get lots of snow and I need it, rain-x won't cut it. It has 80k on the clock and everything works perfectly. the wiper homes between runs. Disconnected the battery for 5 mins for fun. Is this switch prone to this kind of failure?
View 1 RepliesI need Vag-Com to reset a failed lamp warning light . . . I'm assuming because I ended up pulling the switch out too far, which commands the rear fog light to come on, which doesn't exist, I caused the "lamp failure" warning light and chime to come on and NOT GO OFF (I installed my new Euro headlight switch last night).
I checked and have no dead lamps. I put the old switch back in for a bit but it's still reporting a failed lamp. I searched for this problem before posting but the search engine on this site is extremely poor ... .Couldn't find anything in the manual either. It assumes we're idiots because it says a certified mechanic should change the lamps but oh, carry extras with you !!??
I recently purchased an '01 Prius that needed work. I was driving it last night, and noticed that the dash does not light around the heater controls or radio. The whole center dash area does not light with the headlight switch.
I took a look through the owners manual for any fuse that might control this, but did not find any. I would not think that all of the bulbs would be burned out.
The switch for the parking brake pedal light self loosened (a known issue with this switch) over the past six months and today it finally fell off the pedal assembly. The only way I can see to do the repair is to remove the three fasteners that attach the parking brake pedal assembly to the dash and drop the pedal to the floor to refasten the switch. It appears to be possible; however, there are lots of stuff around the assembly that might get in the way of dropping the assembly so I raised the white flag and called it a day.

View 3 RepliesFound a simple fix for unlit radio control buttons, cd player opening and center display buttons while the parking/headlight switch is turned on. As it turns out, if the wire connector directly behind the dimmer switch wheel located to the left of the steering wheel is accidentally disconnected, you will not have any backlight for your in dash cd player opening,radio control buttons or your emergency hazard flasher button.
The simple fix is to first remove the left side silver/gray plastic vent cover which is located directly to the left of your dimmer control knob. Place one hand on the top of the vent cover and the second hand at the bottom the vent cover and firmly pull directly out. Second step is to pull towards you the miniature dash panel that the dimmer switch wheel is mounted to.
The arrow tip guide on the miniature dash panel will pull away from 2 guide slots mounted to the main dash panel. Third step is to reconnect the disconnected white male plug to the back of the dimmer switch wheel's female connector. Last step is to push back the miniature dimmer switch wheel's dash panel until it snaps back in place, then snap back in place the silver/gray plastic vent cover until it clicks back in place.
I just got a new switch from the dealer, only rear fog control (don't have OEM LED's yet), and I want to turn to the right one position, but the HID's come on, and no city lights. What am I missing?

I am in the midst of wiring up the Bold Sport kit that comes with the OEM mirror with build Rain/light sensor. It comes with a nicely made wiring harness with OEM terminals already installed. The kit can be found here for reference. [URL]

It instructs to add the power source to the fuse box. No problem. Says to add the RLS to fuse pin 17 and the Mirror power to pin 7.
Here is the diagram they show.
The problem is on my '13 Golf R, 17 is already taken. I can certainly add to a different pin on the same bus. So not really an issue there.
The other issue is that there is no power bus for pins 7-11 on my R. What gives? There is a power bus on pins 1-6 but they are all taken already.
I find it is that the lights do not turn off after parking when they are in the auto position unless you take the key out. Is there any way around this? It's kind of odd to have to take out the key when parked inside the garage.
