Golf/GTI VI :: Loud Clang / Rattle Noise When Let Off The Gas

When I Let Off The Gas There's A loud Rattle Coming From The Engine Bay Area. It Stops When I press The Gas Again, When I Brake And When I Turn The Wheel.

View 3 RepliesSo I was pulling out of the parking lot at work in first gear going about 10mph when I heard a loud clang and lost power to the wheels, I just had the car towed home and its dark out so i haven't gotten a chance to really take a good look.
My question is, how did this happen? the car is lowered on coils. I also Installed a B&M short shiftier about 3 weeks ago, i doubt it but could that have anything to do with this?
Theres a loud rattling noise coming from somewhere inside the center console, where the shift lever is, that's annoying as hell! Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.
View 4 Replies1 year ago bought a 2003 Ford Ranger 5-speed manual. For last two months I occasionally get a loud clang from the rear, with short locking of rear wheels and sudden lunge when accelerating from stop. I can also get occasional clang when cruising down city streets in fourth gear. Tonight when accelerating from stop wheels locked and no sudden kick in and lunge forward. Finally got truck to go and crawled home. I've taken the truck into my mechanic twice, but of course it performs perfectly normal when they drive it. And no, it isn't just the way I drive. It's an occasional problem but getting more serious.
View 2 RepliesYesterday the car was fine going to work and most of the way home. It was raining pretty hard and I went through a large puddle then right after I started to hear a pretty loud noise. It sounded like it was coming from the middle of the car, more so in between the main seats and was vibrating my seat a little bit. It only happened on mediumish acceleration, during low acceleration it wasn't there at all. Also the car still felt fine. Then when I got off main road I was on a street that wasn't super wet cause of all the trees, the sound stopped.
Here is a link to the sound, you might have to turn up the volume because it is a little low. You can hear it best around 14 sec: [URL].....
So today I jacked it up to see if I could see anything and I found oil all around the haldex stuff. Here are some pics I took of the leak. There is also a bright yellow spot you can see through a hole. Not sure what that means. The haldex service was done, maybe 5-10k miles ago, I'd have to look it up to figure out exact time. In one of the pics you might notice black silicone around one of the plugs, this was because when I did get it serviced for the first time, someone before stripped the bolt so the mechanic put that around it to hold it in. It still looks like it is on there pretty well so I don't think that is the issue.
This isn't a big deal but I noticed this plastic part isn't bolted down, I really don't think the noise would be from this but posted just in case.
Whenever i start my car and begin to drive, i get a loud flutter/Rattle when i change gear above 2500 rpm. It occurs when i give it about 50% or more throttle. is this normal? or does it have anything to do with cold start? I have a tampa mod resonator on the car.
I have a video to show sort of what it sounds like, but this is with giving it about 30% throttle, not 50%. it gets much louder, and sounds a lot worse when i give it more gas. Listen at 1:07.
Experienced this (Loud engine knock or rattle noise) regarding the service bulletin (T-SB-0010-12)? If so, did you take your vehicle in for service?
View 19 RepliesJust purchased a pristine 2011 GLS with very low mileage. The car is essentially mint (garaged + well cared for by previous owner), but has one, occasionally noticeable issue: once warmed up, a very loud metallic buzz/rattle noise is heard from the rear of the car, particularly under low RPM acceleration. I've had many cars in the past with similar noises, which all turned out to be loose heat-shields at various locations along the exhaust systems. With this in mind, I've felt all the heat-shields on my "new" car, and they all seem to be securely in place - though some (especially the rear one over the muffler) seem to be minimally supported by design, and could potentially be resonating with certain exhaust frequencies.
View 17 RepliesI was pulling out of the driveway and heard really loud snapping noise. Jumped out of the car expecting to see damage, but everything looked fine. I didn't drive over anything or hit anything.
Now, I notice that when my left front wheel goes over bumps and potholes there's this metallic rattle. Took it my mechanic right after and we both looked the front suspension over. Everything looks good. It does drive fine.
I was driving and i was doing about 60 65 and i hit a bump and i heard a loud rattle and it shock the hell out of me then it just stop...
View 2 Replies'12 2 door Golf 19k miles ... I'm getting really sick of the rattle from this corner of the car. I highly suspect the pass rear panel below the window ... Is it a common issue and what to do to fix it?
View 7 RepliesSo I took my R into the dealership to have them look into the rattle/vibration noise that happens when I accelerate. They say that they looked into it and found nothing that was loose and said everything was fine.
When I first got the car I was showing it off to a friend of mine, letting him hear the intoxicating exhaust note, he was impressed, then I rev it and he was like hmmm what was that? Needless to say I was a bit embarrassed.
At this point I don't like getting on the gas in fear that someone will hear this noise and I cringe when I hear it. It's unacceptable for a $30k+ car. The noise does seem to get better once the car is heated up, but that's only after quite a bit of driving and its still there, just not as bad.
I'm taking the car in again tomorrow for something unrelated and I'm going to make sure I give it a few revs so they can hear what I'm hearing.
When I turn my ignition off, I can hear some rattling. Took it to the dealership many times. They hear it but can't pinpoint where it comes from.
Had a VW specialist come in and took a look. Saw the VF motor mounts and said "He hears it too but the mounts could be the cause"
The head mechanic and the service advisor told me if I could figure out the noise they would still fix it under warranty.
Specs :
-SB stage 3 feramic clutch with ss flywheel
-Motul trans fluid
What exactly is making this sound? What do I do to fix this because its driving me insane. Noise is constant with clutch out. Goes away when pushed in. Rattle when at low rpm. This clip is me lightly revving the engine. This is something clutch/flywheel related.
2012 GTI, MT, 7k miles ... Now that I've determined the other noise I had is a wastegate rattle, I'm getting this lovely noise while moving and turning the wheel all the way, seems to only be when it's wet/rainy.
View 4 RepliesI just purchased a 2004, knowing it had some issues and I'm trying to get to the bottom of them. The car is throwing a CEL for 17755 and 17748 (more info in my first thread here). I had APR look at the car for a pre-purchase inspection and the tech there felt sure that the issue was that both of the "cam adjusters" were failing and needed to be replaced.
After doing some research here and on Google I really couldn't find much if any information on those parts, so I started wondering if that was really the problem! After finding a TSB online related to the codes I was getting.. it would appear that, according to the VW TSB at least, my timing chain may have elongated and needs to be replaced.
However, I have seen many reports that this is unlikely because the bad timing chain issue was just a Euro thing and was supposed to be fixed before the .:R's were sold in the US.
The symptoms of the car other than the CELL are weak power in upper RPMs (but the low end seems pretty good if not fine) and some rattle noise coming from under the hood in the 1200-2200 RPM range.
This noise goes away in the upper RPM's which makes me think that the tensioner bolt could be bad (spring failure?) so it isn't working well in the low RPMs with low oil pressure.. but then the high oil pressure causes the tensioner to work ok in the upper RPMs. BUT, then why would the car be out of timing in the upper RPMs (I'm assuming poor timing is the reason the power is not there).
If it is just the bolt.. is it as simple as removing it and installing a new one in it's place? Is there a way to check to see if the bolt is bad?
Ok and one more thing! Lastly, when I was trying to hold the RPM's in that range (1200-2200) where the rattle happens, the oil pressure light kept coming on and the cluster said "STOP" the engine. Could these things be related? The oil light has never come on normally. I hope to figure this out without having to tear the engine apart.
I need some speaker upgrade recommendations that'll fit into the door cards - specifically the subwoofers - I've replaced an OEM speaker in the driver side once already and it's doing the same thing as before it has a weird vibration/rattle noise with certain freqs. It may very well be the way it's sitting in there but I doubt it.
View 23 RepliesNew R32 owner here. TR with 45k miles purchased 11/12. Lovin it thus far minus a few quirks. One that is pretty significant - when I was in a drive through the other day, close to a wall w/ window down, going from window 1 to 2, lifted my foot off the break and let the trans engage w/o hitting the gas. This produced a slight but noticeable click/rattle noise from what seemed to be the middle of the car. Once i left, couldn't duplicate the noise until pulling into the garage when I was stop/going again without using the gas. The tranny is covered for another 15k or so, so want to get it checked out before that, just wondering what in the world it could be.
View 7 RepliesSo when the car is idle i hear a weird rattle noise but when i push the clutch in the noise goes away.
View 5 RepliesI am very mechanically inclined and up until now I can usually hear a noise and know exactly what the problem is, given enough time to listen..
The best I can describe the noise I am hearing, sounds like a cross between heat shield rattle or a syncro somehow stretched out and is loosely spinning around once in gear.. Hard to explain, but all gears shift perfectly..clutch was replaced at 102K and I am currently at 130K. Also I might be crazy but it sounds like I am starting to hear the noise in 3rd as well. I would post a sound clip, but its so faint it doesn't show up on my iphone..
The reason I am throwing it out there, is because half of the seriously trusted mechanics I know say it sounds like a bearing in the tranny going out, the other half, (3 of 6) can't even hear what I am talking about but its there.
This rattle goes away when I open the sunglasses holder and pinch the roof together. It's not the sunglasses holder door itself. Any write up on how to open this up so I can check out what's in there?
