View 2 RepliesHow to remove hood release and plastic trim from driver side covering wires going along driver door, left rear door and to the trunk? I am trying to install subwoofer and amplifier in the trunk need to fish wire through the car from battery to a trunk, and got staked with hood release (opener), i can't remove it and piece of plastic where you put your feet holding together. I don't want to brake anything.
View 2 RepliesThis afternoon my Gen II Prius started smoking from under the bonnet, and a strong electrical smell is present. The car does not start into "READY" mode. I am having it towed to the local dealer right now.
View 10 RepliesWhenever my Prius has been at rest for a while, such as sitting overnight, and I come out in the morning for my drive to work, as soon as I grab the handle and the door unlocks there is a distinct sound like a motor/servo/positioner under the bonnet that runs for about 3 to 4 seconds.
I am curious as to what this is. It's 100% consistent, so it appears the car is prepping something in anticipation of starting the hybrid system - part of the "pre-flight prep" procedure perhaps?
I have a 2002 echo 1.3 vvti - will it has been running great and has 200000km on clock . However today i started it it ran for about 1 min then i heard a beeping from under the bonnet, the engine then stopped. The car will start and run for less than a sec then die. will not run no matter how much i play with the throttle .
View 2 RepliesJust today i was driving along in my 2.0L golf when I started hearing a rattling coming from under the front end, its a hollow sound that only really is loud when i step off the gas after accelerating, and a faint little rattle when I am idled. I wasn't too bad at first but now its to the pint where i get no exhaust sound coming out of my muffler, currently I have a 2.25" Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system, so I am pretty certain it has to do with probably the resonator or the catalytic converter. Where I can start?
View 2 RepliesI drive a 24v vr6 GTI in 6-speed I was coming home and as I turned and got on the gas a little and all of a sudden there was a pop and my car couldn't go in gear when I release the clutch. Luckily I was close to home and basically cruised in neutral. I jacked it up and found that my axle is twisted. Now I was aware the boots were torn before so I'm assuming the axle got screwed up but my other concern is, why won't my car go in gear? Here's the photo of inner CV. I'm hoping it's just an axle and not the clutch.
View 8 RepliesI have a 3 year old that sits behind my passenger seat and I put the seat all the way front and leaning forward so she doesn't kit the seat (and mess up the back of the seat with her dirty shoes).
The problem is, she then has a habit of kicking the seatbelt that is dangling on the side because it's fun to pull daddy's chain while he's driving. So I pulled the seatbelt over the headrest of the passenger seat to move it out of her way.
Now the seatbelt is tight and I can't get it to release so I can pull it off the headrest. How to release the tension? If not, how do I remove the bottom panels to get at the mounting bolt so I can just unbolt it and take it off?
Recently I noticed that my car (Golf IV TDI 90) starts to release a bad smell from air vents driver side, but it's not all the time knowing that the air conditioning and the ventilation are disabled. odor similar to the first odor released during the activation of the ventilation to disengage the first odor.
for your information, i have already changed the pollen filter withe a new one.
The dash DRL indicator comes on most of the time when I release the emergency brake. It seems that other times it doesn't. It also seems the indicator turns off after about 20 minutes. Does this sound normal, or does it sound like I have an electrical issue?
View 11 RepliesI have noticed that when I have my ac on, I can hear the turbo spool and release noise (pshh sound) more prominently. I drive a 2011 GTI MT. Car is bone stock.
I was just curious to see if this is normal or indicative of a boost leak? If it was a boost leak, would there be a CEL?
It's a 2003, 2.0, rear disks. If I take it apart and manually compress the piston with that rotating clamp that Autozone lent me I can put it back together and use it 2 or 3 times and then it's too tight and I have to take it all apart again. I don't have the cable hooked up, I just move the lever with my hand or a screwdriver.
I'm a little irritated cause I replaced this caliper last year. I remember finding a good description of how this device worked and now I can't find it again.
I picked up a new CSG GTI, 6speed with Xenon and Bluetooth on Thursday. Yesterday evening when I got home from work I opened the hood to make sure everything was cool I guess. Then this morning I was going to open it again, and the release inside the car is loose, like it's hardly attached to anything.
MKVI? I know it's probably a cable issue, but it sucks to have to drive back 50 miles to the dealer, 2 days after buying it, because the hood won't open.

When I drive the car makes noise just started. What I would like to know does the mk4 12v vr6. I have a differential and when i press the gas or release the gas the car jerks.....
View 2 RepliesGot my tires swapped out and noticed a whining sound coming from the rear of the car when I release throttle >40mph. Applying throttle it goes away. Soundalike it's coming from the driveline. Does the Haldex make a whining. It's loader than I would expect. Believe the roar of my winter tires covered it up.

View 4 RepliesI went test drove a R32 today and I noticed when the headlight switch is in the off position, the HID came on when I release the hand brake, is this normal? I thought the DRL suppose to be the inner two halogen lights not the HID. This way, having a switch is kinda pointless except to turn on/off the the instrumental lights because you have the HID on whenever you release the parking brake, doesn't matter if the switch is in the off position or the on/lowbeam position.
View 12 RepliesSo the window switches and hatch release switch have decided they want to stop working. Along with actually locking my car from the inside or keyfob. I have checked all the fuses and the wiring looks to be intact. The hatch release switch doesn't work but the fuel door switch Does work. The passenger side window switch also isn't working and of course both Windows are down.
View 6 RepliesQuick background. 1+ years ago I'd sometimes get the "moo" when in reverse. It was intermittent and never enough or a persistent issue to address. Recently, no moo, but I noticed when I'd release the parking brake and move forward there'd be a minor hesitation and an audible thunk, not too pronounced, then it'd roll freely from then forward.
Replaced rear brakes a few weeks ago, noticed the right side parking brake arm doesn't reset as far free as the left. Pushing it 'home' by hand made a little thunk in the cable house up near where it bends towards the vehicle's midline. Brakes installed, and it spun freely by hand with perhaps only a very small amount of 'hiss' but not consistent for a full revolution, only periodically. Lubed both cables from the center console.
Last night installed parking brake return springs, set and released the parking brake a few times to see how it felt. Right side looks like it still does not return home 100% (maybe, 2-3mm away, same as before). Today, made a run to Napa. Got there fine, when leaving, drop the parking brake, and as I'm grabbing reverse I get a yellow dash light and a "check brake pads" warning. I drove about a block, pulled over, shut off engine, got underneath (no parking brake set) and the arm seemed to sit about where it should. I drove a few miles at low speed, pulled over (left engine running, set parking brake), checked temp of all rotors (both sides) with my finger, nothing noticeable. Drove a few more, repeated the above (engine running, brake set) and temps were still cool.
Got home, replaced fans. Started up to test fans, and the error isn't there now.
If it was going to throw an error I'd more likely expect it when leaving home, where I had cycled the parking brake handle multiple times. No error there, or en route to Napa. Leaving Napa, parking brake engaged only once, I got the error. Powering off and restarting, it was still there. Successive stops did not have the engine shut off. Once home, it cleared.
I have a MT '12 Golf 2.5L with around 8k miles. I always park with the transmission in neutral. When I first start it up in the morning, the engine revs high, around 1500RPM, so I can clearly hear the engine inside the car. I start it, it revs up and holds, and when I release the clutch I hear what sounds like a rev, but the tach doesn't move.
I believe the GTI doesn't need the clutch depressed for the entire turn over, but the Golf does, so I have to hold it until the engine is running. It may not be a big deal, but I'm just wondering why releasing the clutch in neutral would make a noise. I don't hear it any other time than at start up.
MkIV 2.0 ... My 4th cylinder will occasionally misfire if I release the clutch at too high of a rev. It is intermittent but happens if I do a burn out or something. How to fix this other then stop doing burn outs and such.
