Golf/GTI VI :: How To Remove Headliner
Nov 11, 2011
I want to change my headliner to a different design. Any info on how to remove it will be useful. Also, is it true that if you take it off you have to buy new clips or brackets?

View 14 RepliesI'm trying to lower the rear part of the headliner so I can replace a broken antenna base. I've read the detailed photo instructions posted on this site. I've been able to dislodge all of the parts covering the rear section of the headliner, including the dome light, but I can't get enough clearance unless I also remove the two rear grip assists. I'm flummoxed trying to remove the grip covers and sub-assembly. The official instructions are confusing, and the dealer tech could not explain it in a way I could understand. See attached diagrams. I can't figure out how to use the screwdriver to release the grip covers.
View 1 RepliesHave a tarp over the roof of our Explorer, getting a puddle of water on the driver floor.
It's getting the headliner wet near top driver side of door/windshield.
Is there a drain tube, or is it a blocked channel in the roof that I can clean with a stiff wire from above?? or does this require removal of the headliner?
Is it possible?
View 1 RepliesSpoke with a friend the other day and his headliner is falling, already. Was there a recall on this, never seen a car this new be so bad...
I offered to do his headliner for him, but would like to keep the OE pattern. I can get regular stuff from a local fabric shop, but didn't recall seeing anything close to what is in there.
Is it on the Fuse box or at the ECU. I heard you just pull a wire and tape it to the side, I just don't know where its at! Also, a picture wouldn't hurt.
View 24 RepliesWhat is the location and how to remove the ECU on the MKV R32? My R was not cooperating for HPA at the Fastivus so I need to send them my ECU for the reflash.
View 16 Replies2010 Golf 2.5 with non-MF steering wheel. I bought a MF steering wheel with module, wiring etc. I finally decided to do the swap today. I can't even take the airbag off!
I disconnect the battery, turn the wheel 90 degrees left, use a small mirror to see the tab behind and insert a flat screwdriver and pry it towards the center.
It does not pop out.. I pull the airbag little bit, it does not clear. When I remove the screwdriver, the hook sits back on the tab again..
I've tried on both sides for almost an hour and the goddamn airbag is still there...
I'm looking to take out my ECU and send it to APR to get tuned. Where is the ECU on the MKVI and how do you remove it?
I removed my old R32 ECU a while back. Is it in the same place as the MKIV?
We are in the process of taking off the downpipe of our R. We can not figure out the trick to getting the front lower bolt of the downpipe. For that matter we can not even see the damn thing. Do you get to it from the top or bottom?
View 13 RepliesAre there any threads with pix? Mine developed a creaking noise every time I hit a bump and it is driving me crazy.
View 3 RepliesMy car has no headliner at all. No foam, nothing, just bare metal. I have yet to find a headliner for it, nor do i want to shell out big bucks for it. So, how could I go about making a new one from scratch? or maybe a way to cover it up. Adding some sort of insulation would work too, as winter is approaching. Just something that looks nice is ok with me.
View 4 RepliesJust got myself a gentex 177 autodim/compass mirror and I'm trying to find a source in the headliner that is only hot when key is in acc or run. Would do map lights but they're always hot. Trying to run as little wire as possible. Was thinking sunroof switch but I don't have a Pinout diagram of that harnes.
View 2 RepliesOn my 2006 Passat the headliner comes apart. I talked to my dealer and contacted VWoA 3 times. They claim that it is not a manufacturing issue. I was surprised, because as I saw pictures of 2006 Jetta's in the vwvortex forum where VW covered exact the same problem 100% or at least 75%. The dealer want to repair it and not replace it. I wonder if this is any good, because there are several locations where the headliner is sagging.

The driver and passenger side were no problems at all, but the center vent is giving me trouble. I've seen the how-to, but can't get it to pop out. I don't really have a proper screwdriver, at home, to push up on the two clips on the top inside of the vent, but I used a hard plastic interior trim removal tool, while prying at the top with another. I have left the bottom controls in as I can't pull the left side buttons out enough to disconnect them while the vent is still in.
View 4 Replieshow to remove the AC vents without breaking them? When I turned my AC on today it sounded like there was something blocking this vent and restricting airflow. It's very annoying and I'm not really sure how to go about trying to get in there to unblock the vent.
View 3 RepliesWould you remove the tune for just a regular Oil change? Its not the 10.000 mile service, just made an appointment for the oil change at 6k miles.
I try not to flash as much as possible.
Note: In the future I am planning to change the oil myself with an extractor but not enough time and I plan to do a road-trip of 4k miles by the end of the year, so wanted to let them check everything prior.
Just put an OEM leather armest in my GLI. I ordered a new "sport cloth" lid from the dealer and was wondering how you go about removing the lid itself?
Took it as far apart as I could and don't see any way for the lid to be removed....
I am having trouble finding on how to remove my center console. Looking for some instructions, preferably without taking out the seats.
Due to the clear stuff flaking off i need to repaint it so I've decided to give it a go and feel clueless.
How to remove the front emblem on a golf? I removed the four screws and tried pulling out the grill but nothing. I dont want to break any snaps so looking for pics. Also is there a need to remove the grill to get the badge out?
