Golf/GTI VI :: How To Lower The Driver Seat
Oct 13, 2011
I am figuring out a possibility how to lower the seat lower for those that are a bit taller?

View 8 RepliesI've already raised up the front of the seat with thick nylon washers, but the back needs to go down more now. I'm 6'3" with a horrid back and long legs, and there simply isn't enough thigh support. (down near the knees) I need the seat to be dipped low in the back and high in the front to be comfortable. Most cars allow for my preferred position in their normal range of adjustment, however the Camry does not. My head grazes the ceiling as it sits now.
How to get that bracket chopped down about an inch? Should I flatten it out, then drill a new hole?
I'm really open to anything, even unorthodox methods, as my comfort in this seat is more important to me than how the finished product looks to a rear passenger...as long as it's still a strong mounting point.
How to change the level of the driver and/or passenger seat (not the back of the seat, just the seat height itself), or is it impossible?
View 6 RepliesIf your experiencing a clicking noise coming from the lower right side of your driver seat, more noticeable over rough roads with pressure applied to the backrest, read on. After much trial and error troubleshooting, here's what worked for me.
I removed the tension on a small clock like spring located on the driver seat back right side pivot point. Since having done so, no more annoying clicking sound and I haven't noticed any difference or adverse side-effect in seat operation /adjustment. I've got photos....
It's getting worse - I've looked all over the place and can't find the source. None of the other seats do it.
View 24 RepliesA months or so ago, after turning off my car I noticed a loud buzzing noise coming from the drivers-side lower firewall area. I cranked the car up and the buzzing stopped immediately. The problem began as intermittent but now within 2 minutes of turning my car the buzzing noise always starts, and runs my battery dead! I have taken my car to 2 local shops that have good reputations and they both began guessing and throwing parts at the problem to no avail my last resort is a dealership but it is 100 miles away and I'm not sure if they would do any better. I feel like this is something simple that an expert should have no problem diagnosing.
I have been searching around the internet and never seem to find someone with the exact same problem - until today!

I could find mentioned using a 4.7 ohm resistor to disable the airbags at the connector. I need to get my seat re-upholstered and the VW haus wants to charge me like 80 bucks, how can I do this for less money?
View 19 RepliesHere's the situation: Just crossed over 30k miles and the Driver's side seat does not heat up. The passenger seat does work, and gets pretty warm when turned up any further than 1.
I did some searching and found some general info about similar problems in other MkIV's, but nothing specific to the R32 seats. (The warranty was for 4 years/50,000 miles, which ever came first, and VWoA will not cover our seats under the MkIV Recall.) Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Swapped switches - No difference.
2. Checked the fuses and verified that I have power to the switches
I tried to check for power at the Green connector under the seats, but got nothing for either passenger or driver's side. What should I try next?
If I check the resistance of the element in the seat, which wires do I need to check? Is there another connector under the seat I should check?
42dd turboback ... Got it put on today and there is some pretty serious vibration on the driver seat. Why it's doing this? Or does it have to break in a bit
View 4 RepliesMy driver seat has been squeaking lately whenever I accelerate (at all - not just under hard acceleration). It seems to be any amount of g-force pushing directly backward causes it. I can reproduce it by just pushing back in to my seat when stopped and the engine is off too, so I know for certain it's the seat and not anything drive train or suspension related or anything else. I tried putting a little grease on the tracks that the seat slides fore/aft on, might have worked a tiny bit, but still there. Almost seems like something is loose... not sure. I might end up taking it by the dealer.
View 7 Replies I have done everything I can to figure it out. Over washboard (mainly) and other rougher roads I get a very loud vibration (not a rattle) of either plastic on metal or plastic on plastic. It sounds like its coming directly beneath or beside me and I even had my buddy drive with me in the back with my head under the seat to try and figure it out, because sometimes its quite loud. I just can't seem to locate the issue.
I checked loose bolts on the AMP, took the plastic cover off, felt around, grabbed everything, but I just don't know where its coming from.
Driving around the other day I had a horrible buzzing rattle behind the drivers seat on my 2013 Golf R with 5000 miles on it. Come to find out when I open the rear door on the driver side I can grab the bottom cushion on the side that faces the door panel and it just lifts up 3 inches as if it is not connected. Is this a normal golf thing? I have never seen a cushion that was this loose in any new car in the past 10 years.
View 2 RepliesMy driver's seat has developed a popping sound when I move around, especially moving forward and back. It seems to be coming from the cushion in base of the seat or maybe down in the lower part of the seat back. I remember a thread a while back about this problem but I forgot what the diagnosis and solution was. I did a search but nothing came up, maybe I just used the wrong key words, I don't know.
View 24 RepliesI drive with the seat slider in the full back position. I'd like to gain another inch or so....just enough to where I'm not touching the rear seat. Not worried about rear passengers. How easy would it be to either reposition the seat anchor points or modify the seat itself to do this? Also, has anyone tilted the front of the seat up a little to give more thigh support? I was also thinking of shimming or otherwise raising the front half of the seat maybe 1/2 inch to give my legs a little more support.
View 22 RepliesMy drivers seat won't disengage from the track on the right side rail next to the console.
Looking for a shot from the manual before I take it apart?
After heavy rains there has been water on the floor behind the drivers seat or down by the pedals (depending on how the car is parked). Is this the result of a bad door seal? It definitely seems to be coming in around the door.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2-door gti that is relatively brand new. One thing I've noticed though is that the driver-side has a mechanical squeak/straining sound when I lean with some force in to the right side of the chair. I figured this was not normal, what it might be?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2012 2-door R with sunroof and navigation. Almost from the very beginning the driver's seat had a problem. It would not hold the position of the back. It would slowly keep going back. Over a couple of days of driving (less than 2 hours per day) I would have to adjust the back about a 1/4 turn of the wheel to get it back to the original position. I have taken it back to the dealer twice for this and they could not find anything obvious.
They said that they would need to take the seat apart in order to figure it out. According to them I am the first one with this issue they have heard of. I am debating if I should keep adjusting it every couple of days, or take the chance and let them take it apart, hoping that there will be no collateral damage in the process. How easy/difficult it is to get to the guts of the seat?
What is that all about? We are talking the one under the seat. Passenger's side. It won't stay on and slides right off.
View 13 RepliesIt seems the drivers seat heater only works when turned all the way up. Could the switch be bad, or is there some kind of variable resistor that goes bad? Dunno where to start really.
View 4 RepliesIt seems like every time I take a corner or make any sudden acceleration/deceleration that my driver seat seems to shift around--like it's not properly anchored in my car. It's hard to explain...Any aggressive driving around corners and such makes my seat make a slight popping sound, with some slight give. I never had this problem with my mkvi TDI I used to have (although I could never take corners as fast as my R). Also, my seats are already showing wearing on the bolsters (just over 2k miles). I know others have expressed issues with this. What is everyone else doing to remedy this?
