View 14 RepliesLots of black soot on my chrome exhaust pipes. I imagine this is normal, but I've never noticed it on other cars, because I have never had chrome tips.
View 5 RepliesI haul a 5th wheel camper about every other month. The rest of the time, my truck is a commuter mobile. On one of the camper forums, the guys were talking about how clean their 6.7's run and how their exhaust pipes are clean. Well, the last time I camped, I walked around the campground looking at exhaust pipes on 6.7's. Most have clean exhaust pipes. Mine has dirty exhaust pipes! Does this mean mine is not running properly or is it the way I drive? Anything to be concerned about?
View 14 RepliesI got this hankering to re-do my exhaust while my truck is all dissembled. My true dual has been a mistake since day one. It never gave me that deep growl that I wanted, and I miss my old cat back. Anyway I thought of an idea that would give me my one muffler back with plenty of air going into it. Check out the pics, and let me hear it. I will be leaving the pipes coming out of the headers alone, that way I don't have to buy doug thorleys expensive y-pipe.
View 2 RepliesI have the 20 inch chrome wheels on my 2016 Lariat. After this winter there is some buildup if some sort in the wheels that will not come off when I hand wash the truck. From what I understand, these are some sort of plastic covering and not true chrome. So my question is can use a really abrasive material or steel wool to remove heavy grime. I have a feeling it is from salt in the roads. I don't want to ruin my wheels.
View 3 RepliesI have recently been getting black smoke out my tailpipes on my 1995 F350 with 7.5L at certain idles and my check engine lights comes on and off, could this be caused from my O2 sensors going bad because of my gutted cats? It seems to be running rich and my idle is way low and at the point to shutting off, prob cuz of overload of fuel...
View 4 RepliesWe have had our Ford 6.7 diesel for a week today and on the way home I am pretty sure it did a regen. It flashed up and said "clean exhaust filter, then the miles per gallon dropped to down around 11 from 15.5 rather quick. The truck smelled really hot and we drove it for about 35 miles to home and MPG started going up and now it's ok. The thing that stumped me was that the truck only has 620 miles on it vs 6.7 miles it had when we bought it last weekend.
View 11 RepliesI've been having frequent, low speed, short trips lately and have been seeing the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message pop up. Given that I have only been mere minutes from my destination in each case, I thought 'good luck with that'.
Today I see the 'Drive to Clean' message, followed by the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message which stayed on (I have been used to it appearing for only a second or two.)
It should all be fine tomorrow though as I have a longer trip planned.
I am at 34,600 miles and had the oil changed yesterday afternoon. My son picked the truck up for me and on his way home the "drive to clean exhaust message" came on with the "check engine light" at the same time. I get home from work, re-check owners manual and no mention of the check engine light coming on with the drive to clean message.
I called my service rep and he says drive it as per owners manual, so I head out drive about 45 miles, averaging 60 mph nothing changes, both lights/messages are still on. Truck seems to be running fine and the last cleaning exhaust message was Sunday and I believe I was out long enough for it to do its job. It will go into the shop tomorrow, but was looking for thoughts from the the rest of you pros before I go.
I mention the oil change only because after the last oil change at around 30,000 miles I drive to work 2 days after and my water pump starts leaking.. coincidence I know.. but getting freaked out as I approach 36000 miles..Truck is a 2011 and I bought it new in Jan of 11.
I am trying to take my stock headers and flex pipe out, I have removed the all the bolts but cant seem to get the pipes out between small space between the subframe and the firewall. how to drop the subframe to get these pipes out?
View 2 RepliesMy AC is not working. I just tried to put in some freon and it did nothing for me. Hopefully this doesn't make matters worse, I'm finding that it may have..
From what I can tell everything is working fine except the pipes at the firewall that go to the evaporator stay warm and don't cool at all after ten minutes.
The clutch is engaging when the AC button is pressed and stays on fine.
I found this thread : [URL] .....
about the blend door, that could be it haven't checked yet but does it suggest that the condenser isn't working since the pipes don't get cold?
Recently I started leaking coolant on the driver side area to the right of the engine:
I am assuming I need to replace some part/tubing that has a leak in it, but I am not sure what any of these things are called. How to identify what leaking part here is?
How do I pop the panel with the mirror switch and window switches? On the MKIV, I just removed the piece inside the handle and the panel pops up... the MKV doesn't seem to work that way.
View 3 RepliesSince Day 1 grime has been collecting on my windshield despite many wiper-washings. Base 2011 GTI.
View 24 Replies If it doesn't rain it's not too bad, just small specks of dirt. But holy hell, as soon as it rains it looks like someone threw up all over the hatch, rear window, and under the hatch spoiler. Puddles of dirt/water then form on the flat portion. It looks disgusting.
I've waxed the hatch to death with Zaino. What sucks is, so much stuff gets on the hatch that it sticks to the surface and pretty much only comes off with a claybar.
What can I use to clean the cloth seats?
View 1 RepliesI need to clean the inside door handles badly on my Jetta. See pics. It seems that there outer layer of plastic is stained and rubbing off. I want to take this layer off completely, and protect it, but want to make sure I use something that's not harmful to the plastic.
Additionally, I need to re-glue a couple of trim pieces. I looked into trying to get replacement wood burl pieces, but VW stopped making them years ago, and I can't find them anywhere. My local dealer last sold a single piece a year ago for $303 (yes - a single piece - the driver door simple 1" strip; not the whole kit). So I'm going to try to re-glue the broken piece to try and make it look decent. I'm wondering if others have had experience doing this and can suggest the best type of glue.
When I looked at them a couple days ago I noticed that on the top of the original springs (I'd say first and maybe some of the second down) looked shiny and clean like it was making contact with the spiral above it. Could this be a warning sign of needing new springs or is this somewhat normal? The Car is a hair under 82k miles.
View 4 RepliesEver since I got my car back from service at a car shop 3 days ago, my gas pipes have been falling fast, getting half the distance I used to. The weather is the same, my commute/miles are the same, my driving habits are the same (hypermiling more or less), and the trip consumption on the MFD is normal. My average is 52.5 MPG. The only thing that's changed was getting my car maintained and they used synthetic motor oil for the first time but that should make no difference.
Dont know why I'm seeing my pips drop at a 2x rate.
I noticed today, when I opened the hood, that there is water condensation on the air conditioning pipes when the A/C is on. When it's fully on there is enough sweat on the pipes, and water starts dripping.
I added two images. In the first one you can see the water condensates on the two ends of the pipe with the white cap. In the second image, while it's not so clear, there is another pipe a bit deeper that also sweats.
Is this normal or not? Never noticed it.
I went to dinner tonight and on the way home I noticed white smoke, coming from pipes. It's 42 degrees outside. I didn't notice any from any cars I saw beside me. I saw it when I got home. It didn't have any smell to it at all. It just felt warm. My girl friends car was not making any smoke either. I have never seen any during the day when it was warmer out.
