2011 gti. I have about 5300 miles on it and it may be normal or have been doing this since it was new. I just noticed it today. When turning full radius in a parking lot I noticed that it sounded like the brakes were dragging. There is also a slight clicking noise. It does this both on left and right turns.
View 3 RepliesGrinding feeling, and noise from rear of 02 explorer xlt. only noticed when starting out from a full stop and turning. It feels like something is grabbing like the rear brakes. I purchased this suv of a local dealer lot, because it was so clean and on a short test run seamed fine.
The day after I picked it up I took it for a shakedown cruise to see if I noticed any problems. After going up a few forward grades I noticed a disturbing rattling noise coming from mid under carriage, and got very worried. I immediately took it to a local well revered mechanic. They eventually had it for 4 days in order to diagnose it. After the dealer had done the inspection on the car and passed it, that all rotors and pads needed to be replaced, left front wheel was locked up, inspection sticker month was never punched, both front tires were bad and either the flex plate or tork converter or both needed to be replaced. I took it back to the dealer with the report and he agreed to fix it with me paying for parts. He did and the rattle was gone !
Yet now I have noticed the problem mentioned at the beginning of this piece, plus the rear wiper does not work. I think I got taken for a ride, which may become a longer ride than I thought. All I want is a reliable car. what could that rear noise be ???
So yet I found out about another common issue but not that publicized. This is the grinding sound when turning at full lock (left or right) in slow speed. I've read several people in the forum who has encountered this. I read different remedies but the most common one is to have the CV boots lubricated.
I have a 2014 Wolfsburg with almost 5k miles. I am really now worrying about my water pump crapping out on me but I heard this grinding sound yesterday.
I can turn the wheel to the right 1.5 turns but only make one full turn to the left before it locks..

View 16 RepliesSo with the temps on the east coast being sub 17 degrees, I noticed my car acting up on cold start and all the way until the car is at operating temp.
1 -- Going from P to Reverse is rough! I allow the car to "break free" sort of speak, before I actually give it gas in reverse and once I give it gas the car bucks violently a couple times and seems to not want to actually reverse... Issue is gone after driving the car and letting it warm up.
2 -- Again right after cold start and until operating temp - Shifting in either D mode or Paddle mode going from 1st to 2nd creates a strange "grinding" noise (I will try to get a video clip of it). The sound is very similar to that of a MK 4 starter beginning to go bad, but not as loud. It only ever happened going into 2nd gear from 1st gear. Once the car was up to operating temp and driven around the sound did not occur. Even after starting the car up again after letting it sit for an hour or two it was okay.
Both things occur on cold start up with the car sitting for roughly 8-10 hours.
My 2013 has more turns to lock going right than left. Going right, my steering wheel will go exactly 1.5 turns to the right from center, but only about 1.3-1.4 going left from center. Is it a feature? Never noticed anything like this on any other cars I've had.

View 3 RepliesJust bought a 2002 F-250. Truck came with 18" Rims with 275/70/18 tires. The turning radius is awful, almost unsafe. The stock rim and tire size should be 16" rims with approximately 265/75/16 tires. Would the larger rims have that big of an effect on turning radius? I have owned two 2006 F-250's, and they turned nothing like this truck. I have not really gotten into the front end to see if the stops have been adjusted and/or if the tires are hitting.
View 10 RepliesWithin the past 2 weeks I've been noticing that when I shift hard into 2nd and 3rd, I manage to grind the gears slightly. At first I thought that maybe I wasn't engaging the clutch fully but after enduring rush hour traffic in the hilly streets of SF yesterday, I noticed that I could replicate the grinding at a full stop with the clutch fully engaged which makes me think that maybe my clutch is going bad.
I'm a bit unsure since the car still pulls up the hills like a champ (maybe it could be pulling harder?) and need to point out tell tale signs to look for when your clutch is starting to fail and requires replacement.
If my problem is not due to clutch, what could it be? If it is, any good place in bay area to take the R? I plan to replace with stock set up.
Currently I have stock clutch w/ +73k miles. I did have an episode where a car transporter managed to make thick grey smoke pour from my clutch due to ineptitude so clutch failure would not surprise me.
So I'm new to the all time awd car thing. I came from a 4x4 truck which 4x4 was never engaged on pavement or in tight cornering. When maneuvering my is250 awd in tight spots ie. parking lots and the front wheels are at full lock in either forward or reverse there is a slight binding/grinding feeling or faint noise. Is this normal on an awd car or Lexus specific??? Did a quick search and didn't find much about this issue. I'm pretty sure its not tire rub.....stock set up.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2013 Passat TDi SE with about 64000 miles on it and 20 rims. I noticed a grinding noise when turning right at low speeds. It was a very slight noise at first, but has gotten louder over the past 1-2 months. The grinding noise sounds like it's coming from the back of the car and only at fairly tight turning radii, with speeds 10 - 20 mph (think going up the levels of a parking garage). What could this be????
Other things to note:
No other noises, vibrations accompany the sound.
I do get the steering rack creek when turning lock-to-lock, but this sound is definitely not that sound.
I mentioned I have 20 wheels thinking that might have something to do with it. They don't rub at all going in a straight line, however.
Sound is only present when turning right.
1990 Nissan Maxima, i noticed that after changing the struts/springs on my car that when i make a hard right turn while accelerating the car makes a terrible grinding noise. I know this is a classic sign for a CV joint, but could it be anything else? It is definitely not tire rubbing, definitely metal sound. It doesnt seem to be getting worse.

Fearing the worse here on my 2011 Prius Four, not IV. When I press the "on" A/C button I hear a grinding noise for about two seconds. Seems to be coming from a low area in engine.
View 15 Replies I have 2009 corolla with 70000 miles on it. I replaced new brake pads. I have some metal grinding noise when i turn right only. I tried looking online and got few similar problem faced by other people. I am not sure if its exactly same issue. No accident damage. Mostly driven on freeway.
1) noise looks similar
2) I do not get noise when i accelerate
3) for car this old is it expected ?
Yesterday I replaced what I thought was a bad front passenger wheel bearing, I removed the hub myself and took the hub to a local dealer to press out the old bearing and press in the new one.
Took the part back to the shop, got everything all assembled and took it out for a test drive. Right away I notice I still here the same noise, possibly even worse then before.
It was already late in the day so I decided to clean up and call it a day. During my trip home I notice everytime I turned the wheel to the left I here a horrible grinding noise, I did not have this sound before changing the wheel bearing.
Second guessing my own work, I took the car to the mechanic down the road today, not the same place that pressed the new bearing in. The mechanic inspected my work and couldn't find any problems at all. Even the ball joint I thought I had ruined was fine.
He inspected both from wheels for play, no play in either wheel. He then put the car up on the hoist while I remained in the car turning the wheel and accelerating. We were not able to reproduce the sound with the vehicle on the hoist, even with his stethoscope he could not here any noise coming from bearings on either front wheel. Everything sounds great with the car in the air, it's just when it's on the ground when there are problems.
Rotated all tire just to make sure it wasn't an oddly loud broken tire belt, once again no change.
I did replace the stabilizer link kit as well since the old one broke while during the wheel bearing replacement. Is there anyway I could have done something wrong with the stabilizer link that could cause this noise? I doubt this is the case since the mechanic did have a look at it.
I'm still assuming it's the front passenger wheel bearing, but don't wan't to go replacing parts I don't need. (I put a new fuel pump in my TJ 2 weeks ago only to discover all I really needed to repair was the broken wire going to the pump )
So just to be clear my car only makes this noise when it is on the ground, when the car is in the hoist I can turn the wheel and accelerate without any noise.
I am hearing a grinding noise when I turn the wheel to the left.. and when I straighten it again the noise goes away.. no noise at all when turning the wheel to the right. what could it be? 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe / 205,000 km's
View 4 RepliesI drive a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. I currently have a slight grinding noise (or maybe more of a low growling) when I make left turns. This happened in the not-so-distant past and it was an issue with the power steering hoses (one had rusted through), so we (and by "we," I mean my fantastic father) changed it out. I thought this time it may just be low power steering fluid, but after checking it, I can say it's not low. I'd think if a hose was the culprit again, the fluid would be low. What we should look into?
View 1 RepliesMy car is making an odd grinding noise when im turning under acceleration. I can only hear it at low speeds but it may be doing it at higher speeds and i just cant hear it.
The noise happens when I am turning both left and right and only when accelerating and seems to dissipate as I pick up speed or change from turning to going straight.
Car has 100k miles on it and don't think the clutch has been replaced.
Car is an all stock b5.5 wagon v6 30v 5 speed.
Got the stabilizer bar recall done in February and have been on a couple of long trips since then. No real issues until about a week ago I noticed at low speed, when turning left, and usually if there was a small bump or incline........like turning into my driveway, there would be a popping/grinding sound. It could happen at speed, but never heard anything. I go last night to install some ECS cross drilled and slotted rotors and flush spacer kit and noticed this on the left front....
Well honestly I noticed first that I needed to wash my car, just got back from the beach and it has been raining here, but is this installed correctly. The bar is bent near the top, easier to see in person and I am fairly positive this is not correct. Called the dealership and they are going to check it out Monda. The picture below is of a left front on a MK7 and it appears to be the correct.
