Any LED I can throw in the footwells / license plate area that won't throw a code? I'm using the ones from superbrightleds.
They worked everywhere except the license plate and the footwells. Everytime I get in my car I have to see (check license plate lights!) and a bulb out icon.
I ordered an LED interior package from Deautokey and they also came with license plate LEDs. The interior looks great, the license plates looked great except for one thing, the right side was slightly yellower than the left. So I contacted Deautokey and they sent me two new ones:
These are identical to the original LEDs except in the old ones the squares are arranged in a diamond pattern but I don't think that matters.
Tonight, I was replacing the right side LED hoping that replacing one is all I had to do to match colors but in order to see better I kept the plate lights on. Well when I went to pull out the housing I forgot that they were still on and pulled it out anyways, there may have been a noise when that happened but I forgot.
I put the new one in, turned the plate lights back on and found that it was dim, I rotated it and same look. I tried the second replacement, equally dim, so I thought "okay, I'll just give up and put the old ones in." Did that and they are now these ones became dim!
What happened!? Did pulling it out while it was still on (only did it that first time BTW) mess something up? Did the new ones being in there mess something up? There is no warning light or message in my instrument cluster.
I wanted to change my license plate bulbs to LED's. Can't figure out how to get to them. The book says have the dealer replace these bulbs if burnt out. I Always like to try to do things myself.

I have vagcom and led bulbs in my gti. I turned off the plate light monitoring erased the code and get errors for plate lighting short and the 2 bulb errors. When I put the stock bulbs back I still get plate lighting short error on vagcom but no bulb warnings, why that's happening even though all the lights turn on and function fine?
View 6 RepliesI have an intermittent error that comes on most of the time I have my headlights on, but sometimes goes off and comes back while I am driving. It shows me the bulb out light, and says on the screen "Number plate Check license plate lighting!" I have never touched the oem factory bulbs on the license plates, and if i get out and look at the plate, both lights are on over the plate.
The only change I have made was about a year ago, I installed an LED bulb in the trunk, and ran a second OEM trunk light in the left side and installed an LED bulb in that too, tee'd off the factory trunk light housing. But like I said, that was 1 year and 30,000 miles ago, and my bulb our error for the license plate has only just started, so I doubt they are related.
I just has a gen 2 haldex and wireless controller installed. 10 minutes of driving around getting on it in sport mode, I feel a thunk from the back and when slowing down a few odd shudders. Drove it cautiously a bit more and felt fine, then harder and harder. Felt better, no understeer, seemed ok.
Got home and scanned with Vagcom, got the errors below, cleared DTC and scanned again, same errors.

So I took my GTI in for my 10k service and to have them fix the wastegate rattle and the subframe shifting. They fixed the wastegate by installing the clip but didn't have the shims in stock for the subframe so I need to go back anyway, but I'd really like to fix my license plate lights before then.
Is there a possibility the tech could have accidentally unplugged a cable for the lights when he was rotating the tires or messing with the wastegate, etc? Maybe a blown fuse? I'm running LEDs and I already tried putting the incandescent bulbs back in but they don't work either.
Where i can get my hands on a Fukengruven license plate frame?

So I noticed a few days ago just one of my license plate bulbs blew, so I tried throwing another in and it won't light up. If I check for 12v at the housing and I have 12 where do I go from there? 2005 golf 2.slow
View 1 RepliesSo, I was attempting to install license plate lights rather impatiently in a parking lot the other night at my weekly meet. I pulled out the factory lights, put in the LEDs, reconnected them, turned them on and all systems were go. I shut the lights off and at that point went and screwed the license plate light housings back into place and went and turned the lights on again, and they were not working, at all. I then decided to reinstall the stock bulbs and check it out, and they were not working at all either. So I haven't gotten to dig too much on this at all, but the headlights and taillights still work so I know it isn't the switch.
Plans for Tomorrow: Pull the light housings back out, take photos of everything, make sure all electrical connections are clean and looking good, and then try to get to the bottom of it.
I'm having some sort of electrical malfunction on the back of my Mk4 Gti. The right rear tail light, license plate light and back windshield wiper doesn't work. I replaced the bulbs several times and they keep blowing.
View 2 RepliesI recently had an issue with a coolant leak. the Y shaped coolant line connection went bad located under the power steering reservoir. The car got hot and the coolant light came on i immediately turned the car off and saw coolant leaking out from this.
Now today I start my car it has a rough idle and dies once it dies it doesn't start again and the epic light comes on throwing the codes

Last time it turned on it had horrible air flow, it felt as though it was choking. definitely not a misfire. occasionally after spirited driving the engine would die after I came to a complete stop then worsened to cutting off when I put the clutch in at high rpms. also have a slight loss of power. I also recently added a 3" tbe and changed coil packs.
So my car has been dropping multiple codes after I scanned her and found all five: p0303, p1128, p0172, p1300, p0301. She is just a simple five speed AEG and has no mods other than a SRI. I already replaced the MAF but that ended up causing more codes and I have checked the vacuum lines to no avail.
View 2 RepliesHad the tail lights coded for at a local shop.. realized as I was leaving that the reverse lights are throwing an error. Can these be coded for? Now that the car recognizes the tails as LED, is the error coming from the incandescent? Should I replace the bulbs with low pulling LEDs without resistors? As for the fog, do I have to replace the bulb as well? No euro switch or wiring done. Basically, how do I get rid of the error.
View 3 RepliesSo recently I took my engine apart to do a valve cover gasket and Ecs tuning 2.0 coil conversion. I noticed a good amount of oil in the plug tubes so I got out my trusty soap dispenser and started pumping out oil. Pulled plugs and cleaned them (wanted to make sure oil was all out b4 getting new) also while I had it apart I wanted to take intake off, ( just to polish it and clean out any carbon inside).. Well I never ended up doing that. I removed the injector connections and realized it was to much work for such little satisfaction. So I plugged the injectors back in.
I got my car all back together and now I'm throwing 6 cel codes!! P0102 (maf) which I'm assuming b.c I took it off for so long, p0201, p0202 ( injector 1 and 2 miss), then some misfire codes p0300 (random) p0301 (cylinder 1) and p0304 (cylinder 4). The car starts runs very rough then cel comes on and blinks. I was thinking maybe the oil getting down to the combustion chamber couldn't be the best for it but it would just burn off. Only other thing I did was take off the thottle body and cleaned it.
How to change license plate bulbs? The little clear covers dont seem to pop off ........

View 14 RepliesSo I bought LED license plate lights, the same ones Track5tar has (who sent me the link to get them). I got em off the bay, and I put them in and they don't work! The Heatsink gets hot but the lights don't light up in both of them!

Removed the other feston put the new led and they won't turn on anymore..
Change them back. Put them upside down, up, sideways... Nothing
Check all three fuse boxes all ok
Every other light on, inside trunk on, side markers on...
Everything but the license plate lights.
