Golf/GTI VI :: Driver Side Front Speaker Dead
May 27, 2013
The mid range/bass speaker on my driver's door is dead. Do you think it's the speaker itself or the wires going to it?

View 1 RepliesMy audio system seems to have lost the drivers front speaker. It works fine for the nav. lady and when I get phone calls but will not put any sound at all through from the radio.
View 1 RepliesI have a 99 navigator, the drivers side front speaker is cutting in and out like there's a loose wire. I cant seem to get the grill off to check it, do I have to take off the whole door panel? If so what is the best way to go about it?
View 1 RepliesYesterday I noticed the rear driver's side speaker buzzing in my GTI S. Is it possible that I already have a blown speaker (I don't usually crank the system)? Maybe it has something to do with the -5 temps? Anyway, should I take it to the dealer or see about getting some aftermarket speakers since the S sound system is pretty mediocre?
View 9 RepliesI've recently purchased a used 2007 toyota prius. (My 2nd prius, I also have a 2004). The driver side speaker does not play. The tweeter on that side does work, so I initially assumed it was a bad speaker, however, when I took it to my local car audio shop to get replaced he tested the speaker and it did, indeed work. He suggested I get toyota to look at it to see if it's the head unit or the wiring. It seems really weird to me that one speaker in the door would work if it was, indeed, the head unit.
View 1 RepliesThe speaker in my drivers door is blown or there's a wiring issue I haven't taken off the card yet to inspect it. I have two stock speakers from a buddies car that only have 8k and two years on them. My question is should I stick with stock ones since I plan on sticking with the stock head unit, or should I upgrade? What speakers that work well with the stock system?
View 6 RepliesThis happens every single day. I'll be sitting in the car, keys in, or keys out of the ignition and all of a sudden you will hear ticking coming from the drivers side speaker. Then silence. Then randomly you hear the damned thing ticking again, sometimes 3 ticks, sometimes 4, sometimes 2, sometimes more.
It's happens sporadically. A different amount of ticks each time. It happens with car power on and off.
I'm assuming this is a build up of static? I have a subwoofer and amp installed and the power cable is running along the drivers side, could the speaker be picking up the electrical interference?
Just bought a 2002 VW Passat and the rear drivers side speaker doesn't work. How to remove the door panel? I have been searching for about a week and still have only found how to remove the front drivers side panel, which is completely different from the rear panel.
View 3 RepliesSpilled pre-workout on the driver's side rear door speaker. As you can see, it's all white. How to clean it?
View 13 RepliesPast couple of weeks, when i drive car 45+ speed,I can hear wind sound from inside car even after closing all windows , i am getting sounds from next to driver seat upper side speakers, I tried 4 to 5 repair shops in mira mesa(san diego).
View 14 RepliesSo I have finally solved the rattle that has been seemingly coming from my driver side dash speaker. I'm not exactly sure which of the 3 things I did fixed it, but it's fixed.
First, I removed the 2 10mm bolts securing the speaker and removed the wiring harness. I noticed that there are 2 metal clips that those bolts screw into and they are loose, so I took some electrical tape and just taped over them to keep them from rattling.
Next, I found the wire for the speaker has a plastic shroud around it that is very stiff and could make noise, so I wrapped that with electrical tape as well.
Finally, the thing that was most likely the cause of the rattle was a loose wiring harness attached to the firewall. If you reach into the speaker hole you will feel the harness just under the hole. Where the harness is attached to the firewall it was extremely loose. I simply took a paper towel and was able to wedge it behind the harness and the firewall which kept it from moving.
Now the driver side rattle is gone, but I've noticed another rattle somewhere else near the center/passenger side of the dash. Every time I fix one rattle I seem to find another. Maybe I'm being a little OCD about it.
So, I'm still getting used to this 2012 F150 and have been experiencing issues with the driver's side speaker fading out for 5-10 seconds and then fading back in. I was getting worried that the radio was defective or something. Well, it is actually working as DESIGNED. Not that I like the design!
Okay, what is happening is that the NAV system periodically has something to say. Most frequently the message is "GPS Signal Lost". It appears that when the NAV system speaks it fades out the radio on the driver's side only, plays the message, and then fades the radio back in.
The volume on the NAV system app was turned ALL THE WAY DOWN so it was going through the motions of delivering a message, but no message was delivered since the volume was set at zero.
i just need to make it stop saying "You are over the speed limit!" all the time... Also, how to make it stop turning down the volume on my cell phone conversations when I put the truck in reverse? I back out of a parking space and have to ask the person I'm speaking to if they are still there???
I have koni seyup and my car is lowered all the way down all around. my front passenger side sits lower then the driver side.. I also have camber plates in the front. What u think could be the problem.
View 2 RepliesI got under the car today to change the oil and noticed the front drivers side is about an inch lower than the passenger side its causing the inside of my tire to wear very badly.
View 8 Repliesi have been searching forums and cant find nothing with this exact problem. i have been having a problem with my ML stereo system, i have a 2007 Lexus Ls460L, like a week ago my driver side door speaker was going in and out then it just cut out completely, 3 days later all my door speakers and sub went out but all my highs are still on playing normal i see post saying the amps go bad but everyone says a chirping noise or no sound but i have sound but only in for my highs i have no bass at all.
View 2 RepliesPicked up my new ride yesterday, 2012 F-150 STX tuxedo black, supercab
4x4, 3.55 e-locker, 5.0l. It is one nice ride but it already has a blown speaker rear drivers side which is frustrating, I see this is a common issue with these trucks. Just hope it is not a recurring thing. But still a great truck.
Taking this part out of their truck, my speaker is cracking bad at low volume, thinking maybe I can play with the wires some.
Just wondering if there is any clips on this part, before I knock off a six pack and go caveman on it.
The passenger front speaker on my 11 FX4 has been intermittent for a while. I replaced the door harness as described in TSB 12-11-4 but found the harness may not have been the cause. I have aftermarket speakers in my truck and installed them using Metra speaker harnesses. When pulling the old harness out, I found the connector for the speaker to be full of water. This is likely the issue with my truck but I wanted to share this observation with others who use these little harnesses. These connectors are not assembled using rubber grommets between the leads and the connector housings, which are necessary to make the connection weather/water tight.
Metra 72-5600 Connector - No Seals
Ford's Door Wiring Harness - Wire Side - Wire Seals
Ford's Door Wiring Harness - Connection Side - Blue Seal
Now, I'm just passing this along in the event others are experiencing this issue and also have aftermarket speakers. Before hitting the dealer up for the TSB repair, check to see if you have the same issue as I found. But if you're running factory speakers and have intermittent speaker operation, hit up your dealer for the TSB repair.
The tweeter and the speaker in my passenger side front door have this awful hissing sound coming from them. The sound gets louder and quieter with driving. Could it be a lose connection at the headunit or would it be to each speaker? The speakers are stock by the way.
View 3 RepliesCan't find out how to remove the driver side front bumper grille. I could not see any screws or tabs holding it in. I'm hoping it can be removed without taking off the entire front bumper.
View 5 RepliesI have a rattle coming from the drivers front area. I'm not 100% sure but I think it might go away in warm weather. I had a tech drive along with me once a few weeks ago, but we couldn't hear it that afternoon. Yesterday afternoon it warmed up to around 65ish and I couldn't hear it. I only hear it at slow speeds (5-10mph) and only when rolling over light bumps, anything moderate to heavy and it's not discernible.
This is my first try at recording it and I think it sounds a bit less squeaky more rattley in person. Maybe more like a lost screwdriver in the a body panel or engine bay or something Or a loose strut? Or a loose rotor? (doesn't seem possible) Or the short shifter bouncing? (I have a forge SS, and once I was poking around looking for something loose in the engine bay and I jiggled that and the sound seemed close, but I don't see how that would be it.
Some good examples in the clip are at 15s, 28s, 52s, and 1:02s
