While driving, the drive side door makes a creaking/clunking/rattle/popping noise. Its so damn annoying. It's all the time, if you roll the window down it doesn't do it as loud, but its cold out..
View 24 RepliesGot a 03 GTI VR6 and my drivers door kept on making this creaking/popping noise(it is very similar to the creaking noise of a old wooden door or the sound you hear in horror movies but for a lot shorter duration). The sound seems to come up when I accelerate, break take off from a complete stop. I took the car into the dealership and they torqed some bolt on the hinge and the creaking went away. Not a month later the passenger door develops the same creaking. The dealer tries to torqe the bolt on the hinge again and they say it cant be done and that their body shop needs to replace the hinge. They paint a hinge for me and put it on but don't get the door adjustments right so I get a lot of wind noise. Finally they adjust the door right and all is well.
A while later the drivers door starts creaking again! I went to another dealership and did an oil change while I was away on a trip to Toronto and the service technician said he could lubricate the door gasket and that this will take the creaking away. So he did. Now granted that has taken the creaking away but after some rain and 2 car washes the creaking came back in full swing.
I call the dealership to set up an appointment and they refuse to look at the door saying that as far as they are concerned the vehicle is up to manufacturers specs and that they will need to get a VW rep to look at it. In the mean time I call the vw customer care which tells me that they contacted the dealer and that the dealer beleves that the car is up to manufacturers specifications and that the noise I am hearing is normal and that all the cars have this noise.
Now I owned an 02 Golf GL 2dr and never heard that sound. It's been a month and a half and neither the dealer or vw customer care have called to inform me when the VW area rep. will be coming to have a look at the issue. It looks like I hit a dead end with having my issue acknowledged and looked at. Is this really a standard noise on the mk4 2dr platforms ? How I should pursue this issue ?!? Anything ?!
We have a 1999 Passat GLX 2.8 auto. I recently put on a new inner and outer tie rod as well as a lower forward control arm. The issue that we are experiencing is that when accelerating or braking hard there is a popping/clunking noise coming from the driver front area. When accelerating or braking normally/ smoothly it is fine. But, as I said accelerate or brake hard it will make a single pop or clunk and that is it, just once when braking hard or accelerating quickly.
View 2 RepliesThere is a creaking sound coming from my driver's side door only when turning right. It sounds like it's specifically coming from the strike plate or latch area. I've pinpointed it to the door because it doesn't happen when I slightly open it but leave it hinged.
View 15 RepliesSo my brand new 2012 2.5 with 143 miles already has an issue. Having a single pop sound from somewhere near the drivers door, maybe the seat, or door frame? Also I think it mostly happens when accelerating from a stop. Maybe around 3-10 mph. Pretty sure its an interior thing, not drivetrain related.
View 18 RepliesWe have a 2008 NF, and have been experiencing popping noises from the drivers side near the door. Especially when it's been colder out, but in general.
The tie-rod ends, ball joints, and the struts have been replaced. The question is: What we is it likely to be?
The car has ~100k on it, so it was not really to surprising that those items would need to be replaced.
However, since I didn't have time to do it, we had someone else do the eval and work.
Are there any typical issues that stand out with the NF Sonata that would cause this based on what I've told you all?
It's a great car, but this is driving us nuts.
I had the struts replaced a few months ago along with the strut mounts and bearings. Since then I've developed a popping and clunking noise from the passenger side spring/mount area. I've greased it and it has quieted it down but I noticed that when the car is not moving and I turn the wheel from lock to lock that very top piece of the strut pretty sure it's called the hat moves along with the wheels while the drivers side does not. What's wrong? Is it something as simple as the nut being to lose or to tight?

View 20 RepliesI just replaced both driver and passenger side window regulators (they were about to fail but still worked) Prior to replacing them, my driver side door had a faint, yet repetitive rattle. I was under the impression a new window regulator would fix the issue. Needless to say, it didn't solve the rattle problem (though the windows are now firmly in place). I suspect it's coming from within the door panel itself. I've peeked inside the door panel without fully removing it and could find nothing. Maybe it's something loose that needs to be secured? I swear it's like Chinese water torture hearing that rattle and it's driving me nuts.
Edit: Holding the glass down, or holding/pushing on the door panel does nothing at all.
I have a 2012 Camry LE and notice that when i open the rear driver side door, there is a clunking noise when it opens into one position. I tried greasing the hinge and it didn't make much of a difference.
View 1 RepliesI've been recently very annoyed by a sound I can hear when driving between 5 and 40 mph. It sounds like the window or door seals/weatherstripping is repeatedly losing static friction to a shaking door or window. If I push forcefully outwards on the window the sound seems to be reduced.
I have about 22k miles on the card so far. I'm assuming I should go to a dealership, but I'm afraid some of them will dismiss the problem with some excuse or another.
I recently purchased Prius 3 last month and noticed a rattle noise about 4 to 5 seconds when I opened the driver side door every morning. Is this normal or should I take the car to the dealer?
View 2 RepliesI just got a 3rd gen IS 1 month ago, but the last 3 weeks there is a rattle noise coming from the rear door on the driver side. I went to lexus twice now but they were unable to fix it and they told me to wait till the car breaks in.
View 14 RepliesJust recently I am having an odd rattle almost echo vibration when I close my driver's side door. I have tried it with the window down a bit and don't notice or get the noise. It almost feels like something is loose or being vibrated around and above the door.
I haven't had much time to look into it closely - It is pretty annoying!!!
99 F-250 Ext cab 4x4 7.3 285,000 miles.
I got home today opened my door and got snaked in the face with the smell of brakes. I got out of the truck then I heard the drivers side rear brakes popping as they are cooling down. I reached down to touched the wheel and it's crazy hot. Opened the garage and went to retrieve the infared thermometer. The rotor/caliper was 350 degrees, hub was 150 degrees, axle tube was 90 degrees.
I took the wheel off and inspected stuff. The rotors do have some heat spots, the caliper visibly looks okay but not 100%. The pads look like even wear. I am guessing that the caliper either is hanging up or I have a wheel bearing going? The passenger side was like 80 degrees on everything. There is a slight shimmy while driving which to me feels to me like the beginning of warped rotors. I don't hear anything to me that screams wheel bearing noise wise.Brakes or bearings?
I noticed a clunking noise in the rear of my car (drivers side more specifically). After doing some investigating, I noticed that the bushing in the rear shock absorber is completely shot. It is practically falling out and this is what is causing my noise. My question is, is it possible to be able to just replace the bushing in the shock? If not, I assume I could just replace the rear shocks without having to get a whole new set of coilovers? Can I replace the rear shocks with a different aftermarket brand or do I have to stick with raceland?
View 7 RepliesMy rear door panel has been creaking ever since I got the car. The creaking noise seems to get worse every day. Ca a dealer will be able to isolate the noise and gent it fixed. Scheduled an appointment already for next Friday.
View 6 RepliesYesterday I noticed the rear driver's side speaker buzzing in my GTI S. Is it possible that I already have a blown speaker (I don't usually crank the system)? Maybe it has something to do with the -5 temps? Anyway, should I take it to the dealer or see about getting some aftermarket speakers since the S sound system is pretty mediocre?

View 10 RepliesSo I had a persistent dash rattle that would mysteriously go away when my car was brought in for service. I took it in a 2nd time, again nothing. So I took the service adviser for a drive until it showed up... then it wouldn't stop.
Shop foreman drove it right after we got back and this time he heard it too... took 4 hours to re/re the dash trim and radio but they found some HVAC ducting was loose from the factory ( b4 work??) and rattling around. They put it back together and apparently put tape around the joints (like you would in your home - I guess from the factory the pipes just snap together). Car is much quieter now. Just hoping this issue doesn't come back in 4-5 years when the tape falls off? It also stopped an intermittent rattle coming from the right side of the dash.
There was also a wind buffeting noise around the drivers side doors. There is a TSB to address this now for 4-door cars. A minor adjustment to a seal and I was good to go, again much quieter. I'll have to see how it fairs at 130kph on the highway, but the buffeting I could already hear at 90kph is completely gone.
