GTI with DSG has delay in downshift (in D mode), especially with lower gears and speeds. I find it very annoying when I try to suddenly accelerate and the car does not move for few seconds-- RPMs go high up, engine is making noise but car does not move immediately. I have noticed this mostly in traffic when i need to change a lane and accelerate right away.

View 4 RepliesFor the most part, I'm pretty happy with my 2010 Santa Fe SE (V6 AWD Automatic).
When I'm coming up to a yield sign, or otherwise slowing down to say 5-10 miles an hour but not a complete stop, and then when I start to try to go again, there is a hesitation and then the vehicle kind of jerks as it starts. It's like it takes a half second to a second for the throttle to respond, and by then it revs higher than I expect. I don't know if it's the throttle delay or a delay downshifting before it starts, or a combination of the two.
I've also noticed that a half second or so delay when just sitting in park and quickly pressing the throttle and releasing. I can press the pedal to about 50% and release it before the RPMs respond at all. Then it'll rev up and back down as you'd expect, just not WHEN you'd expect.
I have a 2010 S with an auto trans and 68,000 miles. I've never replaced the fluid or filter. Over the last 10,000 miles or so, I've noticed the following in regards to shifting.
I will being on a merge ramp to the highway rolling along and waiting to pull out into the flow of traffic. I'll be traveling along at a constant speed, say 30 mph, with constant pressure on the throttle waiting for my opening in traffic. I will see my opening and floor it. That's when (sometimes) the car seems to get very confused. It doesn't shift back right away, it lingers in 3rd (or OD) and picks up a tiny bit of speed. Then, it hesitates with no acceleration, and then roughly shifts to 2nd or 1st. It feels more like it forces itself into gear and, once in gear, it accelerates like it should.
The biggest issue for me is that this whole process takes about 3 or 4 seconds. That's not very long, but when you're trying to merge onto the highway or cut into traffic, 3 seconds is the difference between being safe and a close call.
Transmission fluid appears to be full, is a nice red color, and doesn't smell burnt.
When driving in Sports mode only there is a hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd and or 2nd to 1st gear. It is very apparent when stepping on the brake to slow for a turn, the transmission downshifts causing the car to lurch forward (just like if you were to downshift badly on a manual). My car is a recent build 3/07. The car is undriveable in Sports mode at city speeds.
View 8 RepliesJust left my lexus dealer after getting an oil change. When I go WOT with the car in auto mode (whether or not in sport mode), it is very sluggish to downshift and when it finally does downshift, will accelerate very slowly above 4,000 rpm...almost no power.
In manual mode, no issue, accelerates great. All fluids are fine and no CEL. Gonna take it back to dealer in a few minutes.. Dealer has no clue what would cause the issue, they did not reset the ECU or do anything other than change oil and filter.
My girlfriend has a 2002 passat 1.8t with the tiptronic tranny... its not throwing a cel but while driving in regular drive mode it seems to have problems downshifting... not all the time but sometimes when you get on the gas and the tranny downshifts it slams* the whole car...
The only thing i can describe it as, is being in a manual car and just dropping the clutch in a lower gear with out giving it some gas to match the rpm's... brought the car to vw dealers and such but all say nothing is wrong and it is "normal"...
The head unit is the basic touch screen that came with the GTI. The screen waits about 30 seconds to turn on after starting the car, and then there is no sound from any source. Mute is not enabled. Symptoms started after a short trip to the grocery store.
View 3 RepliesI drive a 2010 Golf GTI 6 dsg and its has some performance problems - it is the not responsive huge delay in acceleration sometimes doesn't even push out the turbo, just gives me a high raw with low output. Even at robots its take a while to respond after I have put my foot down? I have taken it back to the dealership and they tell me everything is fine - they changed the DV valves and upgraded the software but the wheels are more powerfull and the output is still low.
View 3 RepliesI've noticed that my throttle response is pretty weak. Doesn't seem to just go when ya put the pedal down. I mean it goes but not as fast as i think it should. is this how it is on all our cars? kinda seems like it has a hesitation or something. Anything I could do about this?

I have a 2015 with 10k miles on it and every once and a while, when I come to a complete stop and shift into reverse, I take my foot off of the brake pedal and the car will sit there for up to 5 seconds. Then, it kicks in and starts rolling backwards. This has happened 6 times now. Giving it gas doesn't seem to work along. I took it to the dealer today for it's 10k service, and they cannot find anything wrong with it. There are no codes in the computer, the fluid is where it should be, and they think the Neuspeed Power Module has something to do with it. I told them it happened before I installed that piece. I can assure you I am not racing in reverse.
View 7 RepliesIts been happening to me for a while now, but it seems to be more frequent. ill b driving around casually, go to pass someone or just accelerate hard then quickly up shift and get back on the throttle. I hear the engine begin to rev up again after the gear change but it takes a second or so until i feel the car continue accelerating. also i can feel the haldex system when it switches between fwd and awd or whatever it does. like you can hear it catch and def feel it lurch around. and clutch pedal vibrate a lot when any pressure is applied to it. is this normal?
View 24 RepliesI am a first time owner of a 2015 VW Golf TSI and TDI, previously drove an Acura RSX.
I am noticing on both cars, more so in the TSI, that off a dead stop, when I push the gas pedal there is a hesitation/acceleration delay that I am not used to.
Is this normal? I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with my cars as I am not well versed in this stuff.
Also, if it is normal, what is the cause behind this? and can it be modified to remove this lag?
The last time I drove my .:R, I was noticing something weird when I'd downshift from 6th to 5th. Usually when I'm around 40mph. If I'd downshift, then press the gas a little to accelerate a little, it would take a moment, almost feeling like lag before it would engage. It's kind of hard to explain. I was wondering if this had anything to do with some linkage problems maybe? I was trying to think of other problems, but I'm not too sure what else it could be.
View 11 RepliesI recently purchased a 2012 Golf Sportline 2.5 auto. I also currently own a 2006 Jetta and 2008 Rabbit both 2.5 automatics. Both older cars run and drive great with this engine and tranny combination for me. However with the 2012 I really notice a throttle delay when accelerating from a stop and a very early shift into 6th gear when in the gear selector is in drive mode causing engine lugging. Shifts into 6'th at 60 kph doing 1100 RPM.
This I find is very annoying compared to my other two VW's which have better throttle response and shift a little later into 6'th allowing the engine to turn at 1400 RPM allowing for better acceleration without having to kick it down a gear.
I have taken it back to the dealer hoping for a ECM flash update but nothing is available from VW and my vehicle ECM has all other current settings and updates. I ve looked into aftermarket solutions such as the Sprint Booster which allows for a more responsive pedal but based on my other VW's my 2012 should not preform like this.
So i just noticed this issue the other day. If I downshift from 6th to 5th the car hesitates before it starts to accelerate, this only happens for 5th every other gear is fine. This only happens downshifting from 6th to 5th. What is going on?

I was slowing down earlier and the car was in 4th, so when traffic started to move again, I downshifted to 3rd but the car felt like it was stuck in neutral. I stepped on the gas and it would not move at all, so I popped it back into D and still the same issue. I quickly steered the car to the side and popped it into Park and it seems to have gone back to normal...is this something I should be concerned about? I've never had this happen until today.

It has 150,000 miles....the cars been working just fine untill DEC of last year. I had the dealer check the transmission fluid and they said it was low....so they flushed and refilled the transmission oil...they didnt see any metal but that didnt fix the problem.....
Now i have the car not shifting correctly ....theres a delay when shifting in all gears but it is intermittent, sometimes it shifts hard and sometimes you can just baby the throttle and it wont shift as hard.....once on the freeway the car runs fine......but when coming to a stop you can feel the downshifting.....
I figured it has something to do with the valve body....my concern is the dealerships have quoted me 2000$ to replace the valve-body....the cars paid for and was wondering if i should just move onto a different jetta or fix this one?
If i fix the valve body will this jetta have the same issue later? Also i do have the vacuum pump leaking engine oil....not much can this be fixed while doing the valve body job???
Six speed GTI Manual for those that dont know its a 2.0 TSI. Fifth gear grinds all day long when i downshift or upshift. They have given me a service car to drive around in, until its fixed. 25k on the OD and a 5 year mechanical warranty, i have 2 years left on the rest. Third gear doesn't go in easily, its like i miss third gear all the damn time, obviously its not right when the rpm's go above 3k.
View 18 Replies2000 2.0 has full oem exhaust, when downshifting it pops, could this be something in the exhaust or fuel? Not sure as it pops about 2-3 times per downshift. No more no less.
